  1. 9 people voted "Not Voting" I'm hoping maybe it's because they aren't legally allowed to vote or something along those lines. If you marked "Not Voting" and there are no circumstances as to why you can't, then you have lost your right to complain later!!!
  2. Thanks CCL! I have applied and sent everything off but I haven't heard anything yet. It's been only about 2 weeks though so hope that I hear something soon. Hoping once I can update with some type of local licensing info maybe I won't get the instant rejection. :)!
  3. that's cause I can't type! Stupid Keyboard! Lorax1275 at gmail . com Sorry about that
  4. Thanks you guys!!!!! I would PM you TokMom and Amanda but I haven't posted enough yet so I can't do that. It seems I automatically get a rejection letter within 48 hrs from every job I apply for at the MultiCare facilities. I don't have a WA license yet but I have applied for it. I figured maybe I will just keep getting rejection letters until I can update my resume with my WA RN License number. I've applied to FHS. St. Claire is the closets to our house and I've also applied at the one in Enemclaw (sp)? I haven't received a rejection letter from every FHS I've applied for yet. *LOL* I had to look up Olympia on the map and it's only 20 or so miles away so that's not bad at all! I'll be looking at the Providence hospitals for sure. I really do appreciate the comments. I don't feel so bad now. *LOL* If you guys would be willing to email me (do I stink of desperation)?? my email is Lorad1275 at gmail dot com. I'll also be visiting Oct 5-8th to visit my daughters new school and look at preschools for my son.
  5. Hi Jess I just took my boards in August and I'll tell you that I did both Hurst and Kaplan. We were required to do Saunders in school so once school was over I never looked at it again and took it off my computer! :) What worked for me was doing Hurst and Kaplan. Now that I've taken NCLEX and passed my personal view is that the practice questions in the Kaplan QBank are the most similar to the NCLEX style of question. I was scoring in the mid-60's on the Kaplan and I passed the NCLEX with 78 questions. I did all 6 tests that Hurst had and I did all the Kaplan QBank questions. That's what worked for ME. For me reading the rationales when getting a question wrong helped immensely!!! Hurst was a requirement for graduation and it was included in our tuition so everyone got it. If I had to pay for one or the other out of my own pocket I would have only done the Kaplan. I hope that helps!! That was my personal experience and everyone is different. I did both and had success!! I only started to study about 3 weeks before my test. I did about 150ish questions M-F before the test and the day before the test I didn't look at a single question, lab, or anything NCLEX related. Good luck on your boards I'm sure you will do just fine! GOOD LUCK!!
  6. Isn't it the best feeling?? I just passed mine 2 weeks ago. Congrats!!!!
  7. That's better than here in Denver. Not a single person from my class has a job yet :-(. Not having any connections is really going to hurt I think. That's a bummer. With my parents being in their late 60's who also have some health issues of their own it sure would be nice to live closer to them. So hard to get that experience when no one is willing to give you a chance to get any. :-/
  8. Here in Denver CO it's down right depressing. They want EXPERIENCE only. A lot of jobs say up front "Not accepting new grads" One health care system had a job fair yesterday and they asked all the nurses present if they were a new grad, then to all the new grads they said "we don't have any current openings, check our website, and have some refreshments on your way out" Nice right?? Even LTC is asking for experience. I feel like I wasted a whole lot of time and a whole lot of money on a degree that's not worth diddly. So FRUSTRATING!
  9. Hi WA peeps I've got a question for you. But first he's a little about me. New grad from an ADN program in Denver CO. My Pops is retired military and my parents live in Lakewood WA and are DYING for us (hubby to grandkids) to move up to the Tacoma area to live closer to them. I've looked at FHS and MultiCare so far but things don't seem to promising!! The job market for new grads in Denver is non existant with it taking about 6 months for even BSN nurses to get an acute care job in a hospital. Here in Denver if you work LTC or Rehab and you try to move to the hospital you can forget it, they don't consider that acute care, same goes for working in a Dr's office or clinic and even home health. I currently have a license in the state of CO only. So I'm wondering if I need to go ahead and apply for a WA state license and just pay the money up front. Also i'm wondering what it's like for ADN nurses to get hired up there (I start my RN to BSN bridge in the fall). I don't know a single person up in WA so I don't have a way to really network and try to make contacts except through here. Any advice would be appreciated. After looking for a job here in Denver I feel like I wasted 2 years of my life on a degree that isn't worth the paper it's printed on. :-/ Thanks for taking the time to read this!
  10. Thanks for responding! Sadly I haven't been on the site long enough to PM (what a pain)! I really want ER as that's my dream job but with as tough of a market as it is now for new grads, having a job right out of school and not having to spend the 6+ months wondering when i'm going to get one would be a great relief! I was wondering more if you get called off a lot and how your internship went or if you get the opportunity for overtime. Do you know what the starting per hour rate is? I was also looking at Austin and San Antonio but Austin is completely saturated and i'm pretty sure the starting rate is higher in Houston. Thanks so much again for responding :)
  11. Hello All and thanks in advance! Does anyone currently work at St Joseph Medical center in Houston? I know the hospital is owned by Iasis healthcare now. The reason I ask is that Iasis recruits at the school I currently attend and I graduate in June. They are offering relocation and sign on bonus for my school in particular (don't know if they recruit at other schools or what not I just know the situation for where I go to school). I'm originally from Austin TX but that market is very competitive and hard for new grads. I've just done a lot of digging on working conditions at their other hospitals and not a lot of positive things are coming up. Was hoping to get an idea of how current employees like working there. There was nothing current on this facility when I did a search. Thanks again!
