  1. I am a new nurse as well, starting in med-surg. I've been working for less than 6 months, and I think it's crucial to find a facility that will support you and help you learn and grow. Med-Surg is hard. Period. But every day that you work, you learn something new. I wouldn't choose any other floor at this point in my career. My eventual goal is ICU, and Med-Surg will make me a better nurse for it. But I agree that starting as a new nurse is hard on any floor.
  2. The ratio depends on which state your working in. For California the ratio is 5:1. So sometimes I start with 4 and expect an admit later on in the day. Just depends.
  3. Thank you very much for the advice! I really appreciate it :)
  4. Hey I was hoping for some advice…I am starting a new grad program in February and moving then as well. I am also enrolled in UTA for the Spring 2015. I was thinking of taking both technical writing (Jan. 12-Feb. 13) and professional nursing (Jan. 12-March. 27). Just wondering how difficult it is to take these classes together. Is it doable? And it anyone else took these 2 classes while working, how was it? How much study time am I looking at per week for both? I don't want to over-fill my plate but at the same time I would like to take 2 classes if possible. Thanks!
  5. Hey I interviewed on the 10th and got a job offer a few days later on the telemetry floor. If you guys are planning on moving there let me know! It would be fun to keep in touch. What did you all think of casper?
  6. Mine is on the 10th as well at Wyoming Medical Center!!! I am from southern California and I am planning on going up on the 9th. Planning on flying into Denver since its a fraction of the price compared to flying into the local Casper airport. I think this program sounds amazing and I would love to be accepted into the program! How did you hear about the program? I heard that the interview consists of speaking to different unit managers. What unit would you like to work in?
  7. Hey hope your interview went well and you got in the program! I too have an interview in early October, and I was just wondering what to expect? The HR lady said that I would be meeting each of the units managers, but the interview would only be half an hour. What kind of questions did they ask you? Did they ask you what unit you would prefer?? Thanks again, and hope it went well!
  8. Hi there! I too start bright and early tomorrow! I'm having an issue however....I tried getting my badge today and was told that I needed to come back tomorrow for verification, because the office closed at 4. Im so nervous that the instructor is going to get a bad first impression. On the other hand...there is nothing I can do about it right now. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you in class! Good luck!
