  1. The nps that work at my hospital (Los Angeles, CA) advised me that the hospitals are requiring they be acute care nps not just adult/gero... they just won't hire them or fnps
  2. I didn't get an email from ucla graduate division or son. However I DID get a general email from ucla, like an advertisement that had the subject "ucla extension" "enroll now save15%...." that prompted me to check on my status. I'm not sure if it's related or just a coincidence... some previous allnurses ucla applicants were thinking its alphabetical.. my first name starts with c and last name starts with h. Good luck, I think we are all in tho!!
  3. Got my OFFICIAL acceptance from graduate division ucla. Check ur status!!! Yay go bruins!
  4. ok. got an email stating that ucla nursing has recommended to the graduate division that i be admitted. but the final decision depends if graduate school approves me as well in 2-3 weeks!!! okkkkkk!! how am i gonna wait?! i applied for Acute care NP (adult/gero). good luck~ check ur emails guys!
  5. Congrats to those who made it! Question: where are you looking for the "status change?" Are you talking about the decision desk? On my decision desk, if I got to dashboard, it just says the program and the date I completed my application. Nothing regarding any status. Is there another place I am missing? Thank you!
  6. Wowowow great!!!!!!!! Congratulations how exciting!! Is this acute or family?
  7. Hi. I applied to acute care np program as well! Thank you for starting the thread! Super nervous! What are your guys experience history? I have been m/s nurse for 2 years.... stay in touch, catherine
  8. Hello fellow nurses, Hope all of you are having great experiences at UCLA! I am about to submit my application for the UCLA Acute Care NP program, but I thought I would ask for some advice on personal statement essay and the application content in general before. What kind of things in your essay do you think was vital in getting your acceptance at UCLA? What kind of things should my recommendation letters include? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance~ Sincerely, Catherine

  10. air 13". i got refurbished with top of the line specs for as much as the new with low specs. it came with 1 yr warranty. works perfectly and sooo light. my friend had 11" and it gets hard when u have multiple windows and have to go back and forth between them
  11. I use erin condren. She breaks up the week by morning, day, and night, but I organize mine as work, school, and misc./social
  12. nope new grad at a different hospital... in riverside-corona area... i dont know if she is pm shift. but she is er. thank you everyone
  13. I think it may also be that my friend was hired in ER. But yes she is getting almost $40. I am not sure if she is night though.
  14. Hi I don't mind. It was $31.74 + benefits. FT Day Shift
  15. Thank you everyone for bringing me back to reality. I am so fortunate to have found a job so I am crazy for even contemplating a negotiation. Haha. It was that my friends got hired and are getting $5+ more than me so I thought maybe I should have negotiated. I got in a new grad program for Med-Surg floor. However, they said after 6 months on M/S, they will train me for ICU which is what I wanted in the first place. And its day shift so I got very lucky! Cathy
  16. Thank you all so much! You are absolutely right, I am very thankful to have a job. I just thought I would ask (: Catherine
  17. Hi everyone, I am a new grad RN and I was recently hired as a new grad RN. I accepted and I signed all the paperwork. I am just waiting to start on June 1st. I was wondering, is it too late for me to negotiate salary? Also, if I do negotiate salary how many dollars increase can I ask? Is $5 too much? Thank you so much.
  18. when i was in nursing school, esp during clinicals, i was so focused on my patients that i would not have even noticed a unicorn flying around in the room... unless that unicorn was flying over my patient of course X)
  19. haha sorry for multiple posts, for some reason my phone skipped thru your post. the kaplan decision-making tree only confused me and i did not use that method. it works for some but not me and it seems like not for u either. use kaplan qbank, and search thru hurst for things u think u need to absolutely memorize (like the isolation types for what diseases & diagnosis) because hurst seems to have easy mnemonic for memorizing those
  20. and dont change ur study method no matter what ppl say. if ure the type to study right before entering the building, do that. if u need a full day of rest before a test, do that. if you have passed nursing school, your method of studying has worked for u well (:
  21. dont concentrate on pharm. dont study content separately. do questions over and over again and read the rationales for all of your answer questions. that is content review for you. nothing else. questions over and over and read up on rationals. i had 75q, 2 psych med questions i had no idea on, and most delegation and priority. i used kaplan qbank only. good luck.
  22. Wow, thank you all for you suggestions! From your suggestions, I am pretty clear that I'll probably go for a MSN program for FNP or ACNP if it is available. I just finished my precetorship in a step-down ICU and LOVED it. Thank you again! It made things a lot more clearer :) Cathy
  23. Thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions. Now I have come across another problem. A professor of mine told me that starting in 2015, NP programs will be at the doctorate level, not masters. Which means that I will need to do extra time: first MSN, then a DNP program. Is this really true? So far I've heard of both yes and no. But there are some straight RN to DNP programs as long as you have a bachelors. Will that get me MSN along the way? I am in California. What have you heard? Thank you!
  24. Thank you ryguyNP and BostonFNP so much for your responses. I can see it more clearly now. I agree that I think I may need to work a bit to really find my niche and the population that I like working in. I was looking at some programs online today and I had another question. For some schools, the NP is under Master's degree, but in some it is listed under DNP. Isn't that a doctorate like a PHD? If so, would that mean I need to get my MSN then go for the DNP-FNP? Or can I do straight from BSN to DNP-FNP? Also, how can I get the ACNP? Is that from experience or from a certification class that I take and test for? Thank you so much again!
