  1. I'm starting my first NP clinical rotation next month and wondering what to expect. I will be precepting with a urology NP. I'm going to try to focus on asking questions and learning the new role. What was your first clinical rotation like?
  2. I received an acceptance via email 2 weeks after applying. I start this fall!
  3. Graduated May 2012. RN Hired November for large hospital in Dayton, OH 23.50/ hour base rate I work nights so I get a 15% shift differential bringing me to 27.02/hour nights
  4. I just recently had two interviews for my first nursing job. One was for a nursing home and the other was for a hospital position on a surgical GYN-onc unit. I really wanted the hospital position. The nursing home offered me a full time position so I accepted and start orientation on Tuesday. But the hospital contacted me 5 days after i accepted the nursing home position with a full time position. The hospital position pays a few dollars more and is about 15 mins closer to where I live. I want to contact the nursing home to tell them I have received a better offer and need to decline my accepted job offer. However, I don't start the hospital position for 2 weeks and only have 2 weeks orientation at the nursing home. Should I request to change my offer from full time to PRN?
  5. I have finally received a job offer for my dream hospital as a new grad!! I start orientation on Nov 5 on a GYN-ONC floor but it is mainly used as a med-surg floor. I am nervous about orientation and don't want to screw anything up since it is the hospital of my dreams! Any advice? What should I expect for orientation from the classroom setting to the floor shifts with preceptors?? Will I be given medication tests and what can I expect to be on those? I'm nervous that I'll do poorly on an exam and they'll get rid of me since I've been out of school since May! What other tests can I expect? What can I expect that they will want me to complete on my skills tracker? Any advice would be great!
  6. Thank you for happily agreeing to be my reference after I have graduated.. Then when I have a fantastic opportunity for an RN Residency program specifically for new grads, you give me a bad reference score which prevents me from getting accepted into the program! So thank you for promoting excellence for your new graduates!! Enter sarcasm...
  7. My boyfriend is in law school with classmates in their late 50s. It is never to late to pursue your dreams!
  8. Clarion University. Completely online, completed in 2 years or even up to 5 years. Small school but affordable and very good program. Very easy to work while completing.
  9. I have an interview this week for a position in the RN Residency program in Dayton, OH for Kettering Network. Has anyone been in or currently in the program? I asked for details about the program, but they just scheduled me for an interview which is even better but I don't know much about it going into the interview. Hope someone can help!
  10. Yes I'm aware they can terminate me as they please. It was just bizarre the way they did it. There is definitely more to the story on their side. Just wish they would have told me.
  11. Thanks everyone. And yes I wish there was more to the story that I could tell you. However that is the story.. Sounds made up but it's sadly not. They did ask me if I learned OSHA in nursing school. I said I've heard of the term and probably went over it but nothing in great detail. The nurse manager found this weird and continued to say I needed to have more education because I would need to know this stuff no matter where I went. Oh well.. On to find something else I guess.
  12. No.. Actually there is not more to the story.. So then you are agreeing by saying its not right? Yeah like I said I got screwed over.
  13. I was just hired for my first RN job in pediatric office. Today was my first day! I was soo excited and my family was so proud of me. I had so many people congratulate me for my job offer this weekend and wished me luck. I went in and filled out all of the dreadful paperwork. Then the nurse supervisor and I went over the employee handbook and gave me a tour of the facility while introducing me to everyone as the new nurse. We also went over OSHA. After this, she gave me two quizzes. One quiz was on TB which I got 100% on. The other quiz was on OSHA. I got the first question wrong which was about something I've never heard of. It had something to do with which one doesn't involve OSHA and the answer was CLIA. I've never heard of that term and the supervisor even said being I'm a new nurse I've probably never heard of those terms. The second question I got wrong I didn't understand but after she reviewed why I got it wrong, I realized I read the question wrong and explained that. Then I was sent to read over materials and then was sent on an hour lunch. When I came back, I was told that the nursing manager needed to talk to me. I was informed that I didn't pass the OSHA quiz based on their standards and was told I couldn't be employed. They said I needed more education and I would be a liability to them to hire me. Is this ok?? I was heartbroken, my family was heartbroken, and I feel like I got screwed over.
  14. I'm a new nurse currently working in a pediatric office. I have my associates degree and currently enrolled in a bachelor degree. I plan on pursuing my masters degree in 2 years once my bachelors is completed. My career interest is becoming a women's health nurse practitioner, but I have a lot of questions!! Should I enroll in a women's health nurse practitioner program? I'm currently working in a pediatric office. Do I want to find some women's health experience prior to enrolling in a masters program? What kind of women's health experience is out there for RNs? On the flip side since women's health isn't very broad.. Should I.. Enroll in a family nurse practitioner program (which I'm also interested in) and then get a post masters certificate in women's health? What kind of RN experience should I pursue prior to a FNP program? I really hope someone can give me some advice!
