  1. Thanks for the replies , but how do you get the agencies to hire you when they are listing the specific computer system ?
  2. Well your paper is probably completed by now but I just wanted to voice my opinion. I am old school and really think all nurses should be aides for six months prior to nursing school and believe that all new grads should work in the bowels of hell on the med tel floors before comming to ICU .
  3. I feel your pain !
  4. You think you are going to have a stroke over the no restraints policies they are pushing ! You really hate to let the newbie take the vents cause you want them all to yourself ! You draw straws with your co-workers for the sedated patients . You grow to hate the hospitalist that wont order sedation for the intubated patient !

I am an ICU nurse that gets floated to ER sometimes . They are really two diffrent areas of care, ICU is very detail oriented where as ER is focused on the presenting problem . I know when I stopped trying to do ICU assessments on the ER PTs things got a whole lot easier for me LOL
  6. I am sorry that you get treated like this. Unfortunatly I see it all the time , I am an older nurse and have worked every unit over the span of my nursing career. If I hear this going on I do not hesitate to tell my co-worker how it is! I still have to occasionally float to the med surg/med tel units and I see how horrible it can be . I also do remember what it is like to try to keep track of 6-8 pts and two to three admissions a shift . The ICU nurses need to be kinder to the over-worked "floor" nurses !
  7. Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio CD's or vidieos make learning FUN!(they are the same info so do not buy both) Or she has a book that has lots of questons with rationales . I attended one of her two day seminars and it really was great .
  8. I worked with a nurse a few years ago that had 4 kids, her husband had lost his job which was causing them to loose their home , so she packed them all up and went west for travel nursing , three years later she and her family are still traveling and loving the lifestyle !
  9. Where do you apply for jobs such as these ? I want to travel but do not like the thought of a big city ! I worry with travel if there will be enough travel assingments in rural areas. I live in a town with one traffic light and wal-mart is a 25 min drive ! This sounds great to me !
  10. I wonder about age too, seems "middle age" nurses are becomming scarce. I am looking into travel at 49 years old and worry that age will be an issue .

I too have wondered about car allowance with travel . Esp with Ak and Hi
  12. Hello, I am very seriously considering travel nursing, I have many years of experience in med surg, med tel and the last nine in a small ICU and ER float. My worry if I start travel is the computer system requirements. More and more job postings I am seeing state certian computer system experience is a must for travel nurses. One of the big ones I see is EPIC . Is there any way to get around this ? Or will I have great difficulty getting assignments because of lack of computer charting skills with specific systems? Despite my 20 plus years in nursing?

I worked with an Aureus travel nurse a few years back . She had been with them for 1.5 years and sang their praises . I too am looking into travel but all the negative postings I read here and elsewhere are quite frightening ! I am considering Aureus just becauce of the one nurse I worked with . I will be doing more research for sure.
