  1. How was the evidence based research class? I will be starting that class on Jan 5th. I envy your progress. My graduation date is May 2010. Any tips? Thanks
  2. Hi Otessa, I am currently finishing my fourth class. It is Link to Nursing Theory. My next course is on Evidence Based Practice Research (6130 - I believe). So far I have found the classes challenging and interesting. I am nervous about the research class....Only 8 more classes to go....My graduation date is May 2010. Congratulations on your success so far:yeah:...Where are you from? I am located in Maple Hill, NC...near Camp Lejeune.
  3. I've heard that phrase recently from our own CNO.... have you closed beds? what is your nurse patient ratio?
  4. I have had limited time with computer charting... however, the experience has been good. It was very easy to trend with the computer....and much of computer charting is simply check the box. It doesn't require much narrative at all.... I think you will love it.... I can't wait until the hospital where I work now starts using computer charting
  5. Those things are great....but we currently have a weekend option program and 6 of our nurses are making $40.00 an hour on that program.... We have a clinical ladder program too.... It started last April and so far 36 of 274 nurses have achieved Clinician III. They made a bonus and have increased their pay by $1.00 an hour. Unfortunately, we live near a base that has contract nurses and they start at over $30.00 per hour. Our max pay before the clinical ladder was just under $29.00 per hour... Our low staff numbers have also been asked to work a lot of overtime and flex up more often than not. We have even tried adding an admissions nurse to the mix so the nurses don't have to do their admission assessments on at least 3 days of the week.... We even have a nurse council that has been in existence for almost a year now.... One of the biggest problems has been lack of physician respect..... and many feel lack of administrative support.... Any other ideas? :o:o:o
  6. I am working in a 12 bed ICU that has problems with retention. In fact we have about 12 travelers right now.... I am looking for any Key retention strategies to pass on to my manager... :twocents: thanks guys :typing
  7. Our standard ratio is 1:2 for our 12 bed unit.... but if there is an in house code or an RRT which involves an ICU transfer we have to flex up..... Our ER has had to hold ICU patients because of lack of nurses in the ICU.... I don't know what the best answer is but I Know that putting more stress on the ICU nurses is not it..... It's definitely a pt safety issue :paw::paw::paw::typing

  9. I have been an ICU Nurse for 13 years. I have attended 3 NTI's and been an AACN member for more than 10 years... but, I have also worked on by BSN degree which I earned in 2005 and worked two jobs for 1 1/2 - my second job was teaching 2nd year ADN students at a community college.... never seemed to have enough study time devoted to the CCRN certification.... I plan to start a Masters Program in June and so hope to have finally completed the CCRN quest by then.... Currently I work in a 12 bed ICU in a Community Hospital.... we have a little of everything except cardiac and neuro interventions.... Most of our patients are pulmonary, cardiac, or surgical... and we have the occasional Swan Ganz.... I work as a clinical coordinator and help make sure that everyone is clinically competent to work in our unit.... Our staff changes constantly.... because some of our staff are married to the military and because our retention strategies are not as good as the incentives offered elsewhere... I am getting off the subject.... I have been in Nursing for 18 years.... How about you?:typing :paw::paw::paw::paw: Oh, I forgot a big part of my life is devoted to our four yorkies and my husband of almost 33 years...he will be 50 on Monday..... I also have three grown boys... one will be 30 on the 21st, the middle one is 26 and the youngest one is 25 :redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe

  15. Just found this thread today.... I have started studying AGAIN to take the CCRN test... but something always gets me distracted... would love to say I have done it and passed... Have a small study group and I am trying to push myself to stay focused.... Any good advice for me.... Whose study guide was the best.... Were the pass CCRN test questions enough of a study guide or does it take a variety? Thanks guys.... :bowingpur
