This is my most important concern as well. I am applying to a bsn program as I am a mom of two and work part time (days) but I won't be able to work my current job when I start school. So I'm looking forward to working as a CNA and still keep a roof over our heads while taking classes during the day. It's tough and I know I can do it, I have a BS in Biology already and I did that full time while working and parenting my first born. Tough but doable. This was very helpful!!!

Hi everyone I dont usually post, I typically like to see what others are going through. This thread seems to be my exact situation and I am so very nervous. I will be applying to UAB for Fall 2014 and I pray that I can get in or at least on the waiting list. I want to go straight to BSN given that I have a BS in Biology but if I dont then I will probably appy to a few ADN programs here in Tuscaloosa. It might take longer but I will do what it takes. Congrats bamagirl14 and tnvols on your acceptances, I hope to be in your shoes next year....*fingers crossed*

Yes it is fun to read what everyone's goals are. I'm considering getting my BSN, work for a while to gain experience and then go on to MSN. It also depends on the hours and salary I may hold off school for anything past that but for now, with two boys and working part time that's all for now.

Thanks so much for your critique as well carakristin1. All of these comments are helping me focus more on how I need to make my statement sound better.

I am applying to a Second Degree BSN for the Fall 2013 semester and I want to start on my personal statement so I will have plenty of time to revise if I have to..... Second Degree BSN Personal Statement I was young when I was left to babysit my 8 month old cousin whom badly injured herself and my first reaction was to get her help. As I accompanied her to the ER I was told by the paramedics that I did good and handled myself very well in that situation being that I was only 13 years old. Of course I was scared and in shock after I realized what happened. However, my quick actions and calmness during that intense moment is part of the reason I feel I can work in the field of nursing. I am very compassionate when it comes to helping people. My habit of helping others even when I do not want to has been an attribute of mine ever since I can remember. However, nursing did not become an interest until recently. I never worked in a healthcare facility. However, I do remember volunteering for a home health agency that my sister works for one summer during my undergraduate studies. Helping her clients by accompanying them to the restroom, keeping them company on days they felt up to it, and also just being a listener when they needed someone to talk to. I enjoyed that experience because I was making their day a better one. Even though this one lady seemed like I could never do anything right, she always asked for me. That is the feeling I loved to get. Nursing is much more intense than that I am sure; it is a career where the most important goal is providing care to the patient, including both physical and emotional support. Aside from being challenging and demanding, nursing has its rewards. I have experienced certain challenges that made me who I am today. Getting this far did not come easy. Yes, I could have done more however circumstances outweighed the obvious. Academically, I could have done much better. Holding a part time job, raising a son, and putting myself through school became a hard pill to swallow but I made it work. My interest in nursing is to work with women and children. I certainly would pursue Neonatal care in the future once I have gotten sufficient amount of training and experience, however, working with children that have complex care needs is a great start. I have volunteered at a children's hospital with young girl/boys and babies that were sick. It just touched me how I was able to make them feel better by playing a game or drawing a picture to hang on the wall. I was even allowed to watch movies with them in their room or read them a book. Being a part of the Pre-Health Society club in school allowed me to participate in community walks to support cancer causes, and sickle-cell anemia. I may not have all the skills to be a nurse but I have the ground work to become a great one. I will work hard to pursue this goal, my kids future depends on it. I know its not perfect but I had to start somewhere....!!!!!

I'm also a mother of two small boys, 3 yrs old and 8 months old!!! VERY encouraging to read these comments bc I too am applying to an ABSN program next fall here in town. I have been out of school with my first degree for going on two yrs now and have decided to reroute. Finishing up my last degree with my son was challenging but I had help with his father, however we now have added to our family and I work part time already so it's been kind of scary to say the least. I kno they will be my motivation 100% it's just I don't want to get overwhelmed and give up when I know my capabilities.....HARD? Yes Ive heard but that's my drive to know that I'm pushing myself and not making a better living for my family. Love the support here ?

Oh well I'm only 25 and I hope they don't judge like that....I have all of my science pre-reqs already and Ive only been out of school for almost two years that won't be a problem but hopefully when I do speak with an advisor i will know something thanks

Sorry as I'm not trying to take over your thread but I'm also looking to apply to nursing school for a second bachlelors. However, I don't have any experience in the field. Never have worked in a hospital setting at all. Do I need to have any before I try to apply?

I have a degree in biology already however I want to pursue nursing. I live in Tuscaloosa area and will be speaking with an advisor about my admittance at the University. I'm not sure if the pre-reqs I have will transfer from my previous undergrad school but I have my fingers crossed. My question is which school has the best program for my situation. University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing or Shelton CC? If I don't have all the classes will I have to take them else where before I began the nursing courses or will I be able to take them and then carry on to the BSN progra. I'm just anxious to find out my next move. Oh and will I be able to work while in school bc Im a mother of 2 and working part time. It's going to be a challenge but I'm ready for anything!

Omg I have a BS in Biology and have since decided to go back to be an RN. Haven't started yet but I'm nervous bc Im a mother of 2 boys (3 and 8 months) and I work part time. Healthcare has always been an interest for me so I know I can do it I just have to prioritize more with the extra studying I will be accountable for. I'm striving for stability and knowing that I won't have room to slack I can see myself now burning out from exhaustion with the comments I've read so far. Thanks for the heads up....REALLY!!! ?

I have been out of school for going on two years now with a BS in Biology. I once wanted to go to PT school but I changed my mind a year ago. I have two boys now (which is why I did not go straigt to nursing school) and I am ready to go back to school to get my BSN and then on to MSN, am I going in the right direction considering in the future I want to become a Nurse Practicioner? I am very confused about where I should start in order to begin taking the coursed I need. HELP!!!!!!
