  1. Nursing Skills

If I have a hard time palpating the brachial pulse, I extend the arm fully (almost to the point of hyperextension) as long as it's comfortable to the patient. The extension seems to push the artery up, more superficially, making it easier to feel. I ...
  2. Which Specialty?

Trauma nurse or emergency surgery. I'm an adrenalin junky! Granted, I have a few years of experience to gain before I get there.
  3. How do you do a study group?

Hello there! So my first day of my first semester is on Wednesday! OMG 3 days away!! My question is, what do you do to make a study group most efficent? The 3rd semester students put together a video to help out 1st semester students and what they al...
  4. How do you do a study group?

Thank you all for your replies! I'm definetly going to give it a shot, but I'm still uncertain if its for me. Can't believe this is my last non-school night!!
  5. How do you do a study group?

Thanks for your reply Natkat, I thought this would be how I feel but I want to give it a shot just in case this works well for me. In the past though I've usually been a 'study quietly in my book room at home' type person. :)
  6. Schedule in Nursing Program

Is night shift an option for you? When I was doing my pre-reqs I was going to school full time and worked 3 14hr shifts Th-Sat. If you need 22 1/2 could you work 12 hrs Friday and Saturday nights? Catch up on sleep Saturday when you get off, then hav...
  7. Why should we pick you?

Just be honest! If it was me I would say something like: You should select me because I am a determined individual who is passionate about patient care. or I feel I would be a great fit for this program because I am willing to do whatever it takes ...
  8. Nursing Shoes??

I start nursing school August 15th and clinicals 3 weeks after that in September!! What shoes do you recommend? The director said they need to be all white but if the logo was a color that was ok and she said preferably leather but not required. Reco...
  9. First Semester

Thanks for posting! I start on the 15th as well and I WISH they would go ahead and post our syllabus but they won't until the 15th. I'm glad you gave us a genaeral idea!
  10. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

I don't think you can go wrong doing the LPN route. Not only are there LPN-RN programs, there are LPN to BSN programs as well. I think getting your LPN will open the door for you for other, more affordable options. I know the area I moved away fro...
  11. To all the students about to start nursing school...

Compared to all the negative posts about nursing school this one made me feel so much better. I know this is going to be a tough journey but I am prepared to do all the work, and reading all the things that can go wrong gets so disheartening. I sta...
  12. Aww, that's adorable! Good luck!!
  13. Uniforms

And what if your patient tries to pull themselves up and grabs your top? It's going to pop open no matter what size it is! We had that option as well but I was eesh that seems like a bad idea.
  14. Is your program this way?

I wish I knew if my program was this way. I'm attending a CC, which is a different CC from the one I did my pre-reqs. My husband and I moved out of state for his job and now I feel like I'm walking into NS blind. I'm optimistic but nervous for sure! ...
  15. What are you going to miss the most...

Super excited to start as well!! But I will miss: 1. Sleeping in and staying up late. 2. Relaxing at the pool. 3. Spending time at the library for my own enjoyment. Superficial, I know! I enjoyed having a lazy time before NS consumes my life!!
  16. What is the difference between PCT and CNA?

Where I'm from you can become a nurse tech after your first semester of nursing school. The local hospital has a nurse tech program for those students, which is generally 6-10 hours a week and you get paid for it. This helps out tremendously with get...
  17. Orientation(s)?

I guess it depends on what you call an orientation. The school I'm attending has a 'mandatory meeting' right after our acceptance letter to do background checks, drug screens and required paperwork. Then we have a 'Nursing Student Success' meeting ne...
  18. When do you find time to work out?

Same here, what helps is the campus gym is right across from the nursing school! Good luck! I try to remember how much of a necessity it is for my health and that helps. That, and trying to be a good role model for my daughter is what I'm using for m...
  19. Hey there! So a little background info: I start nursing school in a couple of weeks. I did emergency veterinary medicine for 3 years and absolutely loved doing it, but despite what people say doing what you love doesn't always pay the bills which is ...
  20. Dear Nursing Student

So I realized after I went back to proof what I wrote I didn't have to quote the whole article. :) Oops! Still new at this!!
  21. Dear Nursing Student

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I start my first semester of my ADN in a couple weeks and clinicals 3 weeks after that. I've been looking all over for what to expect, advice and warnings for clinicals and your article made what's expected of me cl...
  22. My heart is set on the emergency field but...

I'm not sure how I've deeply offended you, but I'm no longer following this thread.
  23. Lunches

I don't know about y'all, but I am in a constant battle with my dryer about shrinking my clothes (ok ok maybe it's not so much the dryer, but my back side growing)! I take 2 diet shakes- the grocery store brand or Special K brand (bc the Slimfasts ta...
  24. Nursing school supplies advice

Go look at reviews on amazon, that always makes me feel better!
  25. Nursing school supplies advice

I know this isn't directed towards me BUT I've had several nurses and doctors tell me the same thing- Littmans are the best. The Classic II or Master Classic II are the perfect for RN use.
