  1. If you're on Facebook, there's a very helpful group on there. Look for Ohio University RN to BSN academic outreach.
  2. ABD Mommy... Have you looked at your DAR report? It should tell you if you need any additional classes. I had a whole bunch of classes that transferred over so I only need statistics and a writing course in addition to the nursing classes.
  3. I applied on 10/15/15 and got my acceptance on 11/12/15. I just received my DAR report on 11/17/15 outlining the courses I need to complete my BSN. Good luck to everyone starting!
  4. Reaching out to all the January 2016 starters. Would love some input and words of advice from those who are in the program or have completed the program...
  5. If you want some online help, Khan Academy has basic skills sections. There are step by step video lessons and tests to see how much you've learned. It might be helpful to see how they do things.
  6. I felt the same way. My first day was on 8/28. A week before, we had a pharmacology math workshop. They gave us our syllabus package on that day. It must have been over 100 pages. We also got our first assignments that were due on the first day of class. The entire week I was a mess. Stomach pains, bloody noses, headaches... you name it. First day of classes were overwhelming and scary but I got through it. My second day of class involved a vital signs lab... I sucked. That day I ran into a friend who's in an upper level. She made me feel better and reminded me that we all feel nervous and scared. After it's done, we realize that it actually wasn't that bad and as we move onto more difficult classes, the old ones seem like they were so simple. So I'm keeping as positive as possible. I've starting getting into study groups early. Everyone is nervous and scared in the beginning, but you've gotten this far. You can do it.
  7. A&P is a tough course. My professor used to post the outlines and power points for the sections that we were covering. I would print out everything, go over them and then takes notes on them as he was lecturing. I would also record the lecture (with his permission as most professors will let you) and go over the lecture again, while making additional notes that I might have missed in class. Sure, I killed a lot of trees but it really helped me get as much information as possible. I barely used the textbook as the powerpoint and lectures contained all the information needed but did use it for the diagrams and to reference areas that I was still uncomfortable with. Not to mention, my professor didn't even like our textbook so he used a textbook other than the department required to grab info from. Many times you can also go to quizlet.com and find flashcards people have already made that match your text.
  8. I think Pathophysiology would be helpful. It was highly recommended to take Pharmacology. I'll be starting my nursing classes in two weeks and that's what the upper level students are telling me.
  9. I also use notability and I have it synced to Dropbox. I also use pdf expert which is a great program also.
  10. Try alibris.com. Many times if the latest edition is a couple years old, they'll have new and international edition for half the price they have on Amazon. I got my Fundamentals book for less than $50 brand new. It had the DVD and code too. If they don't have the latest edition, you can also find out if you can get a prior edition.
  11. Montco is still on the point system. I just finished all my pre-reqs in the Spring and I got accepted to the Fall class. I've already completed orientation and all my paperwork has been submitted so I'm excited. The point spread for the Fall class was 61.25 to 84.75. I was on the lower end with a 64.75 but that's because I got a C in A&P 2 and decided not to retake it. Yes, despite what everyone says, as long as you do well in your other classes, a C will not prevent you from getting in the program! I had only one C, all the rest of my classes were A's and B's. A&P 1 and BIO140 were B's. As long as you take BIO140, your Core 7 and PSY136, you should be eligible to petition. You can be enrolled in NUR106 while petitioning. If I remember correctly, there were 60 students accepted for the fall. An additional 10 were placed on the waiting list. During orientation, two of the waiting list students were bumped up into the class. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  12. For physiology, get the Interactive Physiology DVD... It's really helpful. There are a bunch of youtube stuff that's are also good resources.
  13. I think most BSN programs ask for it. Some ADN programs do too but depends on which school. I'm in an ADN program in PA that doesn't require it but I took it anyway.
  14. I use my iPad for everything... Recording lectures, viewing powerpoints and diagrams. I even have some textbooks on there. It saves me from carrying around a mess of books and papers.Everything I need is on my iPad wherever I go.
  15. Wow... I thought this site's purpose was to find support but that those first few replies to the OP were harsh. Great going guys... You should be proud of squashing people's excitement. In any case, to the OP... I love my iPad for school! I learned that it has become such a valuable tool. I love how I can write my notes and record lectures. Taking pictures of the whiteboard in class or of labs has helped so much! Even though I carry my laptop to class too, I always pull out my ipad for lectures. I even have all my textbooks in e-form so that I can tote them around anywhere. Notability is the app I use to and it ROCKS! Stay positive... Keep your sparkle going. Things may get rough and people may say hurtful or negative things but it's all just outside static. Stay focused and you'll do great!
