Online FNP Programs vs B&M
I have been enrolled in an online FNP program at a private, not-for- profit school for the past year and a half. There was always this feeling however that I was not learning enough in this program, so I decided to take a couple of classes at a regular brick and mortar school that also offers this degree. The difference in the quality of education has been like night and day. For starters, I am able to communicate directly and develop personal relationships with my fellow classmates and instructors. We were able to organize group study sessions and bounce ideas off each other and have questions answered by our instructors right away instead of waiting 24-48 hours for their email response. One of our professors even offered to conduct review classes to better prepare us for the NP exams. Most on-line programs basically involve self study, which may be okay for some individuals. If I am paying $700/unit though, I would expect more than just instructor feedback on my discussion postings. I understand that not everyone has the opportunity to attend a brick & mortar school, and if taking your NP courses online is your only option and works for you, then more power to you and I wish you all the success. If one is able to attend a regular B&M school though to obtain their NP degree, I would strongly encourage them to do so. Also, please do not post "it is what you put into it" type of answers. I got it. I am just making this post as someone who has experienced both the on-line and traditional classroom methods of instruction in this academic field of study. I will be withdrawing from the online program this week and focus on completing my FNP degree the traditional way.

Chamberlain College Of Nursing- FNP program
Hi SPJJMommy, I just sent you a PM, but anyway would like to like to know how the FNP class or classes you have experienced so far are structured. Do they put more emphasis on discussion board participation or written assignments? Could you describe the level of difficulty of the classes so far? I have sent in my application 2 weeks ago and am waiting to see if I get accepted or not. The reviews I have read about this school are mostly positive so far but was just wondering about the "doability" of the classes. Any info would be helpful and thanks in advance.

Chamberlain online FNP
Hello BeeGeeRN, I just applied with Chamberlain and will hopefully start in Jan. 2014. Have you started with the program yet? If yes, could you share with us how the classes are structured? Are there a ton of written assignments and quizzes or is it just participation in the discussion boards? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance and congrats on your acceptance and best of luck to you!

Walden University has new FNP and AGNP Programs
I would like to know what type of paperwork clinical preceptors are required to submit to Walden University before a student is approved to do their practicums. Are preceptors required to send in their resumes, letters of reference, etc. to Walden? Also, does Walden require students and their preceptors to use the Typhon software for their clinicals? Thanks very much in advance for any info.

South University FNP MSN program???
Thanks, MonTif. Your response was very informative. Are you the first cohort at South U's FNP program? I will be starting my first class tomorrow, although I already have some transfer credits which were applied. Quick question about the Pharmacology class - how is this class structured? Is it all research papers and case studies or just the discussion board? How would you assess the difficulty or "do ability" level of your classes so far? You are getting really close to finishing - congrats in advance and best of luck to you!

South University FNP MSN program???
Hi bornleader, Not sure if you were able to get a direct response from lhflanurse, but basically was informed that assignments consist of papers and discussion boards. No quizzes or exams. No mention of lectures either. The responder is happy overall with the program and recommends it. Everything sounds good so far, and I have made up my mind to sign up for their MSN-FNP program.

South University FNP MSN program???
To lhflanurse or anyone in South University's NP program, Can anyone describe the structure of the NP classes (pathophysiology, pharmacology, physical assessment, and practicum) in South U's FNP program? Are there any lectures provided and do these courses mainly involve case studies, group projects, proctored exams, etc.? I am considering applying into this program but found very little info on their website. Would also like to know if you guys are happy with this school/program so far. Any info anyone going through this program can share will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

Hi playboyesquiere, Could you tell us how NP 601 Physical Assessment is structured if it is taken on campus? Is it all lecture and quizzes or are you still required to submit research papers/reports? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, canchaser. I was really curious about the NP 601 Physical Assessment class, since I still find it difficult to imagine how a hands-on subject such as advanced physical assessment can be taught as an on-line class. I understand you are almost done with the program. Congrats in advance and I wish you all the success!

Hello All, I will be starting my NU 603 Advanced Patho class next month and would like to kindly ask for feedback about the structure of the FNP courses (NP 603, NP 602, & NP 601). What is the nature of the assignments - case studies, research, etc? Are there any lectures or quizzes involved? I looked through the curriculum but did not find this information. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Good luck to all my fellow SJCME FNP students and congrats to those who have passed!

Thanks for your reply, playboy. Are the initials of your informatics instructor (MODERATOR EDIT OF INITIALS - PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES OR INITIALS OF INSTRUCTORS PER TOS - THIS INFORMATION CAN BE CONVEYED VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE)? I had emailed her and got no reply. I will contact my advisor since this is really unfair to the students. Did your instructor get upset when you kept emailing her?

Hello all, Does anyone know how long it usually takes for an assignment to be graded? I submitted one of my assignments 2 weeks ago and have still to hear from my instructor about my grade. Thanks.
