So I'm currently on a summer break and I wanted to touch up on the common drugs I should know for nclex. I just took pharmacology 2 semesters ago so I quite don't remember a lot of them. What are some of the drugs I should touch up on? Thanks in advance!

Yes you can but it also depends on the applicant pool. I got in with a C in micro and As and Bs in everything else. So just make sure your other grades can balance that out along with a good hesi score :)

Clinicals usually start the 5th or 6th week. They will let u know on the course syllabus and even in class. Technically you don't get access to patients info until u reach pharmacology. The program is all year round, so when u take your summer course it'll end in july. In 108 & 130 your tests are done on a scantron. As far as studying advice, I'll be honest I'm still trying to figure out what works for me because it's nothing like your science courses. I do recommend to stay on top of your reading, and look up YouTube videos of you don't understand anything. I know Michael Linares from simple nursing has great videos and he teaches in such a way that will make you grasp and know the material. I just bought the package today and it's quite pricey but I know it'll be worth it. I would say to purchase the package once u get into pharm because he only teaches from pharm and up.

Clinicals are within those day of class for both 108 & 130. Clinicals don't normally start until the 6th week in to the course. Whatever u sign up for in the SIS, will be the day your clinical would be. In class the professor just goes over PowerPoints then we will have lab time following after that. Same goes for 130.

In 108 it's Monday-Thursday 8-2pm in 130 it's Tuesday & Thursday 8-2 and Wednesday 8-10am

I'm in the day program But it's going by well! I don't know much about evening, besides I haven't heard of any complaints...

Hey ladies! And thanks by the way :) I always like to share my journey into this because it is encouraging to plenty especially knowing what they're going through. This first time I applied for Fall '14, I didn't get in. At the time my hesi score was a 75% and prereqs gpa a 3.1 I believe. I then retook a few classes and ended up with a 3.4 gpa while using the same hesi score average for the spring start....as of now, ODU is going by really well! 401 is pretty laid back but the paper work slowly picks up towards the end of the semester. They require you to purchase books but I didn't because I heard we hardly used them so I check them out at the library lol. The only book that's really used is the Perdue Owl for this 1 assignment which u can find at TCC Portsmouth library. By all means don't feel discouraged!! Stick to this route!! I felt that way at some point in time but if you're REALLY dedicated, it's possible! I underestimated TCC, I thought I would never get into their program because of the rumors of it being hard and "wait list". There's plenty of girls in my class that haven't finished up a few of they're prereqs like micro, psych, & etc. However, I do recommend to get your science courses out the way because not only will it be HARD, but it may interfere with clinical rotations in case something comes up (which happens!!)

Yes! I'm actually doing the program now along with 2 other classmates. The rest of them plan to start this fall. I actually applied before I even knew I was chosen as an alternate so I pretty much had to step out on faith and apply just in case I got in the program. The NUR 401 at odu is the first course u take and it's a piece of cake. The material doesn't pick up until the last 8 weeks of the course where they will require u to write a few papers and start working on your portfolio. If you plan on starting in the fall, I suggest u apply now as deadline is approaching soon. However before u start the program, ALL prereqs need to be completed before the start of the program. If u need more info email Janice Hawkins, she's really quick in replying and helpful. Also, financial aid does not cover ODUs concurrent program so get prepared to pay out of pocket, loans, scholarships, or if you're using the GI Bill and see if that will cover it!

Well I say go for it!! If you know for sure you will pass those courses, then apply! You can always list on your app that those courses are in progress. Plus, if you've completed your hesi and received a good score, that's a plus too. Besides, if whatever reason you don't make it in you can always reapply using your same hesi score. And remember, it all depends on the applicant pool so give it a shot! You never know!

I'm in my second course in the program now and we do have a few students who still need prereqs done such as micro or philosophy. However, I will say it is difficult to complete a science prereq during the program if u don't have it completed before you start. The first course is VERY time consuming being that it's 6 credits. I was actually an alternate until I got called on the 1st for an open spot that starts on the 12th!! It took me the 3 years to get to this point. I'm excited and a bit nervous all at once, but I didn't come this far for no reason! :)

Ladies, I just got the call that I am OFFICIALLY in for cohort 3!!! Thank God!! Can't wait to meet all of you!!!

Well, I called Tuesday and asked if there were any seats open for the alternates and Ms. Wilson said that the nursing Boards were going to meet (which they met yesterday) to talk about the alternates. She said they will be calling by the end of this week, if not, after the break before semester starts. I even called again today to see if I should purchase books now in case since I'm using financial aid but no one picks up. I even went up there yesterday to ask that question but the door was locked since the boards were in there.

Don't feel bad at all. Your grade is a lot better than mine when I first took it; in fact it took me 3 times!! My first time was an F. I was a fresh 18 yr old college student and not quite focused. I also wasn't utilizing my classmates for group studying and I HARDLY studied. My second time was a D. I had a study group that was good for the lab but not for lecture. Then finally after seeking permission to retake the class for the THIRD time, the advisor told me I had to pass this class otherwise my financial aid wouldn't cover for it anymore. So I had me a great study group for both lab and lecture and I also studied my butt off and pulled out with a B and I was 4 points from an A. Honestly, I think it's about taking full responsibilities about your studies. You can't leave it up to someone else to study for you. All though I lucked up with an awesome study group, I knew I had to be the one to put forth the effort to get the grade I wanted. Now, I'm 23 and I was chosen as an alternate for a local RN nursing program that I'm praying to get into. So don't feel bad; You get what you put in! Good luck! :)

Was there a final date to take the test to test out?

Ohh ok gotcha! I know there were several other Lpn's that were going to test out. Hopefully they passed too! :)
