  1. Also keep in mind that the points may have been a bit higher this year due to a buildup of high GPA students who have been gaining experience, taking extra classes, etc while applying for the lottery in previous years. I banked an extra 4 points in the 2 years I applied to the lottery because I'd heard rumors of a switch to merit and I wanted to be prepared in case I didn't get a spot in the lottery. Next year it may fall a bit, or it might go a bit higher as people do everything they can to get those points. I asked what the highest score was, and they said it was 83. Give them a call and ask if you are curious about stats, they are so helpful and sweet.
  2. Sorry Solarjohn, I'm all in for fall. Dianekay, my application points total was 77. I'm not sure where that landed me on the spectrum, but on Monday I'm going to ask what the average was.
  3. oops. I don't know if this is going to post twice, but...as far as I know all notifications should have gone out on the 22 to student emails. If you have your student email set up to pop into another account, check the spam folder. Mine went to spam for awhile in my gmail account. If there is nothing in the spam folder and you've checked your student account directly, you should call today since nobody is in the office on Fridays. Good luck!
  4. I got my email, I'm in for fall!!! ?
  5. Has anyone gotten anything yet? I got an email 2 days ago that was just a repeat confirmation that my documents were received. Notifications are supposed to go out by the 22, so we're down to the wire...
  6. ^ That is true. For awhile there have been rumors flying around up here that Modesto area residents have been applying to the Columbia pool for that reason. I asked the allied health staff about it and they said there were no rules prohibiting them from doing so, but not to worry about it and that in general the pool was made up of Tuolumne county residents. I'm just nervy because I applied twice under the lottery system and didn't get in. I did use those two years to take the nutrition class and get my EMT cert, so at least I got 4 points out of those years.
  7. Hi ladies! Is anyone here going for the Columbia cohort? My application points total was 77, but it's a much smaller pool than the MJC pool (20 students total, 10 per semester.) I sent in supporting docs. I'm worried that with a tighter pool it'll be more competitive up here. Are there any more Columbia students who want to chime in?
  8. I always thought that reading things was the best way for me to learn, because during tests I could actually visualize the words on my notes or in the book. Starting halfway through microbiology I got a big whiteboard and would write out answers to the study guide (from memory) on the board. Then I would go back with a different colored pen and correct things that were wrong or add in things that I'd missed, then I re-read it, erased everything and started over. I would do that 2-3 times until I could write it all perfectly from memory. My test scores went up to high A's. I think it works on both visual and kinesthetic at the same time. I've never seen it recommended, I just started doing it because I saw the whiteboard sitting in the corner & got inspired - it helped me out so much, I know it would work for certain learning styles. Give it a shot if writing things down is really important to you retaining info.
  9. Good to know there were different wait list letters, I flat out didn't get in and was wondering what the wait list deal was. My sister in law got in off the wait list a few years ago, she said that they called her to let her know. I don't know if it was lottery, I just know she was the 2nd one off the list they contacted because the first person couldn't do it for some reason. I might take the TEAS and apply at Delta, but that's a terrible commute :-/
  10. It seems fairly safe to assume they'll be out next week sometime. Of course I'll be out on a pack trip & completely unreachable the whole week ;-) coming here and seeing everyone else in the same boat does make the waiting less lonely & helps keep me sane. Speaking of keeping busy & staying sane, I've also been going to khanacademy.org and brushing up on algebra for the TEAS. If you guys haven't been to that site before I highly recommend it! It's basically a collection of free tutorial videos on a wide range of subjects, I used it a lot for micro & physiology. There is so little time between notification and start of the semester that if I do get in, I want to already be preparing for the TEAS and not be caught off guard!
  11. Hi everyone, I also applied in May for the first time for the Columbia satellite group. I emailed back and forth with one of the administrative assistants for allied health before the May deadline, and she did mention that they would be switching from the chancellors model. I think they have to process every single application before making selections and mailing notices, which is a lot of paperwork. They probably let people know if their applications are incomplete and what to do to complete them. It seems to change from year to year whether it's late July or very early August, but ronneep - I'd guess you would have a much better chance of talking to your landlord and seeing if you can work something out with him/her than talking to people in the allied health office. I don't think there's much they can do to speed up the process for an individual (they likely have a lot of other people in similar situations.) Maybe they notify by email as well, or maybe as soon as they say on the website that notifications have been sent you can call and check your status so you don't have to wait on the postal service. Good luck with your housing situation, hopefully your landlord wouldn't mind letting you have a week extension on giving notice. Waiting to hear back is really hard, that's for sure!
