  1. I honestly think it is hard to know whether it is your calling or not. Nursing is a very hard career to be in all your life. It phys hard, stressful, and patients can be hard to deal with at times. But Sometimes you have patients that make you LOVE your job. They are the dolls. I have also wanted to teach..i love to share what i know. But you CAN do that with time. I know i cant be at the bedside forever..its too much mentally. I could handle it for a few more years if i had too. I would continue with it and you have many options when you are done.
  2. Ive been there!! NOT knowing if ill pass or not. We had this HORRIBLE teacher too. She is cruel and wanted to fail everyone. They try and weed you out. Doesnt make any sense to me. We need nurses. You'll do fine. STUDY YOUR CLASS ROOM NOTES! Thats what helped me tremedously. Its too hard to study the entire nursing book/chapter.
  3. I live in MN. Reckless i believe is just a ticket. lving the scene..i was the only person there (i went into the ditch) and i hada few cuts (so tech i was injuried). Does criminal mean "felony". The sheriff said probably only misdormeanors but it will be up to the county prosecutor. I am extremely worried. Kinda depressed about it. I wish i knew what is going to happen. Does anyone know when they have to issue a ticket? I am very worried I will not get into school now. Is it just a felony that a background check is looing for?
  4. I recentky may have been ticketed for a reckless driving and lving scene of accident, probably not a DUI but i have not seen any tickets in the mail yet. It has been two weeks. I have been accepted into CRNA school and start in the fall. They will have to do a background check. Will I be banned from starting school? I am losing sleep over this and extremely worried. One stupid night out no prior tickets/convictions. PLEASE help
  5. This is what I truly think whether people want to accept it or not. It is the total package. They want people who are well rounded who can multitask. People who are involved in commitees, projects, conferences, community. GRE doesnt nec m   atter depending where you apply. GPA 3.2 or above I think is critical. If you have a 4.0 and not involved in unit stuff that may possibly mean that you are not well rounded (sorry no offense intended). Also it who you know (ouch..i see this at our institution). Must have good letter of recs..pick docs who are well known and who know your work well. You statement must be eye catching..i wrote my over and over again. At the interveiw put on a smile and be calm..not rambling on or nervousness. Bring anything to the interveiw that will wow them!! Find out what kind of interveiw it is..if it is behavioral..make sure you have excellent scenerios that shows what kind of critical thinking skills you have. Second and third time applying is important too dont give up. For all you that dont think that affirmative action helps..your wrong it does..Im not saying that you can have borderline stats and not get it but I truly truly think it helps in some institutions . DONT SCREAM!!!
  6. :imbar Here is what I think. I think you have to have the total package. Every institution is different. I got in at Mayo and I will be starting in sept 2005. My number were very average and I think I had other things as well. I am very active on the unit and within the department of nuring. They new the doctors who wrote my recs. I am also of ethic minority. There were applicants who had better numbers than me and did not get in. There were other ethic minorities who did not get in. I truly believe I had a little bit of everything not alot of one thing. I, as well as other applicants, analyzed the interviewing/application process over and over again. It is sometimes bizarre to me on how they pick the people they pick.
  7. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am a Mayo ICU RN and I recently went through the interview process my self. I was lucky and got accepted into the program. do prefer Mayo nurses. They do know the nurses better and the docsThey who write the letters of reccomendation. I had a Cardiac surgeon who is the head of the education chain. I feel they do not necessarily base it on only qualifications but the total package. I looked into and interviewed at The Lacrosse program as well but was truly hoping to get into the Mayo program since I know the system and have been there for quite sometime. As soon as I found out that I got in.. I called Lacrosse and let them know that I will not be coming to there program. I feel that the Mayo program is just best for me for multiple multiple reasons. Mayo only accepted 26 SRNAs this year. It is a very attractive program to most people. I also got an interview at the Minneapolis school of anesthesia but I am going to cancel my interview. Good luck to all of you who are trying to get in. I only have a 3.34 GPA for my BSN and 4 years ICU experience and GRE scores sucked!
