Hi RoseElin! As long as you applied for student loan, payment defer, and the $200 deposit, it should be fine. I think BCIT Nursing are no longer allowing people to defer their seat, accept for medical reasons. To me, I think this is fair to all future applicants. This program is very competitive. If 1/3 of the intake seats are for deferral applicants from the previous intake, then it is very hard for new applicants to compete. Also, if you are planning to reapply, the chances of getting accepted again would be 50/50. It totally depends on the pool of the applicants.

For people who are confused or lost in completing the immunization form, you need to call your local health authority for your immunization record. For example, if you live in Vancouver when you were in elementary school, then you need to contact the "Vancouver Coastal Health". Just give them a call and they will help you with it. Usually they will give you another phone # and eventually you'll find the community health clinic that is associated with the elementary school you've attended. As for the Blood test for Hepatitis B Screen and Antibody Titre, you need to go the doctor office and they will give you a form called "Laboratory Requisition". This is the form you need to bring to the clinic for the blood test. Also, be aware that you might get charged with a service fee from the doctor office. This depends on the doctor. As for the Chicken Pox shot (Varicella), if you never got chicken pox in your life, then you have to get the Varicella shot. Good Luck!

To "dog_prints", Wow!!! $3300 is a lot of money! I was thinking about the tuition fee too before I applied to the BCIT nursing program. For me, I ask my parents to lend me some money and return those money later on when I have received my student loan. Or, pay the tuition fee through creditcard, but do this at your own risk since you have to pay them back within 1 month. ...so the best choice for you is to ask your parents or your friends for help. Good luck!!!

Hey Lego.House! I highly suggest you to get more post-secondary credits. Think about what kind people you are competing when applying. To me, it's better to have more post-secondary credits than what BCIT ask for. Imagine the people who are currently applying to this program these days, especially those with a Bachelor Degree in another field. Also, make sure you have done the post-secondary level of 3 credits in English and 6 credits in Psychology/Sociology considering I see a lot of people have already finished it. Below is what the BCIT Program Advisor send me. Good Luck on your application! :] Successful Applicant Profile:-Communicate effectively: Applicants must be fluent in written and oral English. -Mature, able to handle high degree of responsibility -Leadership skills (takes initiative, problem solver) -Assertive (due to responsibilities in hospital; the need to communicate with patients, families and health care professions; and the PBL strategy, passive students often have difficulty in program) -Team player -Good Interpersonal skills -Have had volunteer or related work experience -Understand the program and "problem based learning" -Math Skills: Review basic math skills (see references below) such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals, ratio and proportion and have the ability to solve word problems. - Entrance requirements must be completed and documented by the application deadline date. - Applicants are first prioritized based upon academic qualifications. Short listed candidates require a minimum 1 year of post-secondary education (usually 30 credits) or more depending upon the application pool. Recent short-listed applicants have had 45 to 60 credits of post-secondary study completed at time of application. Preference given to those who have completed the courses in English, Psychology, Liberal Studies electives, HMGT 7180 - Those with related work experience such as, Care Aids and LPN's, may be considered, but still need to fulfill the academic requirements (i.e. applicants would be given consideration with less than 30 credits, if they have this type of paid patient care experience.) - GPA of short-listed applicants is taken into consideration (no specific GPA requirement, but students with poor transcripts will not be short-listed - students who have failed or have been 'recommended to discontinue' at another institute may want to submit a letter of explanation with their transcripts). High school and post-secondary marks are considered. - Having a degree or large number of post-secondary credits does not guarantee acceptance. The department is looking for a student who fulfills the minimum entrance requirements, post-secondary requirements, related work experience & related volunteer experience (most suitable being experience involving patient contact in a hospital, long term care facility, extended care home, private care home, rehab centre, nursing care. The volunteer experience should involve contact with patients).

Hey smiley65! Do you have a part-time job(~2 shifts per week)? I know some people who are in the nursing program can manage study and a part-time job at the same time. It seems the nursing program is stressful and contain a lot of weekly homework, I just don't know if a part-time job will effect my study time in the future.

Do people who have a Bachelor Degree in Biology have a better chance of getting into Nursing? Just curious here! I just recently applied to BCIT Nursing and I have a Bachelor Degree in Biology. I have taken a "3 credits of a university transferable English Composition course", but I don't have "6 credits of Introductory Psychology or Sociology". Don't know what are my chances, but never hurt to try! @^@
