Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 136)
Hi Everyone, Am just wondering has anyone applied for the Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 136) visa on their own without the help of a migration company? £2000 is what most are quoting excluding all the other associated fees. Am just wondering is its viable to apply for this off my own back and save myself £2000. I would be great to hear from other people who have applied for this visa on their own. Thanks everyone fejao

Skilled Indepenent - 136
First of all, thank you for taking the time replying to my post Just a few questions on your post. Am I correct in saying I have to wait 2 years before I can lodge a 121 permanent visa and I must stay with the employer whom is nominating the application for two years prior to the application and I cant change position within the hospital i.e theatres to general surgery for example? What is the process for applying for the visa? Do I need to get a job offer first? Do I apply for registration with Queensland Nursing Council before getting a job offer? Also how does nursing in Auz compare with the UK? How is the pay and quality of living compare? I hear a lot of people are worse off financially staying in Auz but their quality of life is better, is this true? Am hoping to move to Brisbane, any suggestions on good hospitals to work at. Thank you Fejao.

Skilled Indepenent - 136
Hi, I have been looking at this visa for a while and would like some advice please. I am a Level 1 Rn in the UK and have one year post registration experience (Full Time) in plastic surgery. I am looking to move to either Brisbane or Townsville. I would rather go for this visa (skilled Independent -136) rather than being tied to one employer or position with the other visa. From what I gather from the DIMA point assessment I have 130 points, so I am eligible for this visa. Some questions I have are: How long normally does this visa take to get? I must apply for registration with Queensland Nursing Council before I apply for the visa? Can I only apply after 18 months of being qualified as the visa documention says. I must have worked at least 12 months of the 18 months prior to application. Is there any other visa which is easier to apply for, which will allow me to apply for citizenship if want to and does not tie me to one employer or nursing position? Hope someone can help. Fejao

Michigan Preparing To Let Doctors Refuse To Treat Gays

Michigan Preparing To Let Doctors Refuse To Treat Gays
Well as a nurse in the UK we are bound by the Nursing and Midwifery Councils (NMC) code of professional conduct which says "As a registered nurse you must respect the patient as an individual" Part 2-2.2 "You are personally accountable for ensuring that you promote and protect the intrests and dignity of patients and clients, irrespective of gender, age, race, ability, sexuality, economic status, culture and religios or political beliefs." So its very clear that nurses in the UK cannot discrimminate against anyone. However I though as nurses we were there for the patients, yes we may have religious beliefs however our primary job it to care for our patients. It very sad that in America you can openly discriminate against another human being because of whom they love, especially when they need a nurse or doctor most. I think it shows that some in America are in it for the money and not the patients. It shows that America has this veil of religion which is just an act, they do not show the true love of Christ to their neighbours, its sad. Fejao x

Michigan Preparing To Let Doctors Refuse To Treat Gays
I thought as nurses we were to treat people with equality and dignity, irrespective of race, sex, oreintation? I dont think this would pass in the uk, if we refused to treat a patient because of the mention, I am sure the NMC would pull us up for breaking our code of professional conduct. Also if these people are refusing to treat people because of religious reasons, I think they should maybe look at the biblical story of the Samaritan! So tell me are Michigan homosexuals branded at birth? Just so the doctors know ! So do you think I would get away with not treating a hetrosexual on religious grounds? Its a total forifice.....the religious right rearing it theocentric head again. Who's going to treat the homosexual nurses? Its a shame Christians portray such a horrible image of Christ. I am sure he would have been the first to treat a homosexual, his homosexual neighbour. Fejao x

hand washing = sore hands, any good products available?
now i have been looking into the use of vinyl gloves in the clinical area. it just so happens i am doing an infection control module at university. i dont have access to the full reference but here is what our booklet says. types of gloves gloves are available in a variety of materials including natural rubber latex (nrl), synthetic latex or vinyl. selecting the appropriate type of glove will be determined by the activity to be undertaken. for example, latex gloves are used for procedures requiring a high degree of dexterity such as surgical operations. vinyl gloves, which are looser fitting, are appropriate to wear when giving an injection or cleaning-up spillage. polythene gloves should not be used because of their permeability and tendency to damage easily, thus exposing both the patient and healthcare practitioner to microbial contamination (clark et al 2002 and pratt et al 2001).

hand washing = sore hands, any good products available?
May I add that our trust removed all clear vinyl gloves from the bays, because they are not approved for use with patients as they are only to be used for cleaning duties. They said only latex and thoes groovy purple gloves are to be used when dealing with patients as the vinyl gloves are a infection control risk. Fejao x

hand washing = sore hands, any good products available?
I know this is an old thread but I thought I would mention this. My hand were in a terrible mess on my surgical placement due to constant washing and use of alcohol gel, so much so I was taking painkillers to ease the pain. I saw a product in a nuring journal called Derma Shield. Its quite expensive but lasts ages and my hands started to clear up within a few days and now I use it all the time and never have a problem. http://www.dermashield.co.uk. Fejao x

Random Questions for US Licence
Hi, Suzanne thank you very much for the information, it helps a lot! However do you know how British/Australian nurses are making up these clinical/theory hours? I dont know about Aus but here in the UK, its hard enough to get placements for general nurses for their training, never mind nurses specialising in Peds, Mat, M-health. Also this problem does not seem to be mentioned in all the adverts that nursing agencies advertise here. Thank you again! Fejao x

Random Questions for US Licence
Hi, Evenryone I am a student in the UK, Edinburgh to be precise. I am considering all my options after I qualify as a nurse this year. I am thinking of going to either Florida or California. However there is somethings that I am unsure about, in regards to obtaning the relevant documentation to work in the US. * As a newly qualifyed nurse can I apply for a "Green Card" or do this through a recruitment agency? Do I have to wait for a year after graduation, like I do if I want to work in Aus? It seems I only have to have a NMC pin number and be working as a nurse in the UK in an acute setting. * As I am studying to be a RGN (BN), I do not study Paeds, Psy, Maternity as these are specific speciality courses here in the UK. Therefore when it comes to my US Licence, I would not have completed any clinical hours in these areas. I have only done limited classroom work related to these areas, to satisfy NMC guidelines. This would suggest all future nurses from the UK will not qualify to work in the USA, unless there is some bridging course. * As I would like to work in Florida or Calif, does that mean I dont need to do the CGFNS? Also if I dont need to do the CGFNS, do I still need a VisaScreen? Thank you all very much, Fejao x
