  1. Congrats to everyone who was accepted into the program! If you have any questions about what to expect in the upcoming year, feel free to reach out to me on here or on Facebook. I will be happy to answer any questions you have. - Colette
  2. Having classes in progress shouldn't be an issue. I was finishing up Microbiology and during my interview, they just asked me what my grade was in the class. I also didn't start bioethics until after I was accepted. That class just needs to be finished before the program starts. As to loans, I didn't go the traditional route so I don't have that info. I know a couple of my classmates used Wells Fargo or Sallie Mae.
  3. Hi guys! I am in the current Fall cohort set to graduate this August. I just wanted to let you know that they told us last year that we should have interviews in May and they would make decisions in June but it didn't quite work that way for us. I didn't even get an email about an interview until June 4 and then found out I was accepted on June 20 (I think). I highly recommend that you take BioEthics at Taylor now. It will save you during your junior semester. Good luck!
  4. @KhristaDalino - For the New Grad programs, my understanding is that you are working as a nurse and getting paid during your time in the program. @larapn - My Cohort has not lost anyone because of a failed test but we have lost 3 people so far because they did not pass a class. If you fail a class (75% or below) then you can drop back to the next cohort and continue with them. However, during your first semester, you will have a couple clinical skills days with exams (specifically Enteral/Parenteral/IV meds) on those days, you will have additional tests and you need to pass with a 75%. If you do not pass, you will need to remediate with your clinical instructor and may need to take the exam again. We did not lose anyone one these days but the cohort ahead of us did lose one person on the IV day.
  5. Sure! Feel free to send any questions my way and I will try to help if I can. As to jobs, we are all worried about finding a job when we finish but we are trying to be optimistic. We've heard that the best options are to try to get into a New Grad program (UCLA and Children's, among others, both have them) but you can also try to get a job right away. Thankfully MSMC has a really good reputation so that should help. I heard that the most recent New Grad group (August '12) for UCLA was over half MSMC grads (traditional and ABSN). As to the math test, if you do not pass it, you just need to take some remedial math course prior to the program start. At least one person from my cohort did not pass but they did the remediation hours and are fine. There should be a sample test in your orientation packet and if you can do those, you should be fine.
  6. For holidays, it depends. We usually get the big holidays off (Memorial Day, etc) and are off pretty much the entire month of December. President's Day, MLK are not days off. Our cohort was off on Labor Day but I am not sure if that is always the case. We are also getting a 4 day weekend for Easter. Free time is tough. For the first semester, you are in class 2 days a week, usually from 7 am to 3:30 pm and then you have two or three days a week at clinicals (if only 2 days a week, they are 12 hour days; if 3 days a week, they are 8 hour days). I was able to still see my friends but it was definitely less frequent than before. It is very difficult to work. There is only one person in my cohort that still works (she bartends on Saturdays) and she considered quitting because of the amount of time she needed to study. There is an exam almost every week so many of my weekends are spent studying. Also, some of the instructors expect you to have read the material prior to class so that can take time. As to Taylor, I didn't think it was that difficult. There is a lot of reading but most of the people who took the course, didn't do the reading. They looked at the assignment, answered the questions and flipped through the book to make sure they were on the right track. If it is still the same instructor, he has you answer the questions and then he responds to your answers with questions about your ethical argument and you need to respond to his concerns. I was working at the time and I was able to complete one or two of the assignments a week.
  7. Congrats to everyone who got accepted! I am a part of the fall cohort set to graduate in August! If you have time and haven't taken Bioethics yet, I highly suggest you take it now at Taylor University online (https://online.taylor.edu/catalog/course-details.shtml?identifier=aaeaa9f8-340e-4f70-87a1-2a06ebf81dbb&catId=9413b5f0-7f6d-44d8-ab60-141470f2582e). You can do the course at your own speed but it has to be completed before your courses at MSMC start. I did it in 6 weeks but one girl in my cohort completed it in 2 weeks. It will save your sanity during your junior semester. I also suggest you start a Facebook group for your cohort so you can start getting to know one another. Congrats again! Colette
  8. I got in!! See you guys in Fall! @karinehy Did you sign up for the BioEthics class yet? I was thinking I should do that too. Can you send me the info? Thanks!
  9. Haha. Glad I am not the only one! Good luck to you!
  10. Has anyone's status changed to Accepted or Denied today? I thought they were making their final decisions today and I have been compulsively checking and no changes! :)
  11. I got an email for an interview on Friday (yay!) and my last name starts with an E. Good luck to everyone!
  12. For those of you who got interviews, can I ask what your GPA, extracurriculars are?
  13. i didn't receive a notice for an interview either but i did email agasia a couple weeks ago and this is what she sent to me so don't lose hope yet! "all applicants will not receive an interview. there have been a few students that have been admitted into the program without an interview. interviews have not taken place yet. we received well over 250 applications for fall and the nursing committee reads every single file."
