  1. Hi everyone! Long story short, I did nursing school to become a psych np. Now that I have my RN license and am now working in a psych unit, I realized psych isn't for me. I'm thinking of being an FNP now. Which unit should I work in that will best prepare me for FNP? Also I'm worried that it'll be tough for me to be hired in another unit since I only have psych experience . I really don't know which unit to work in now. Please help.
  2. Well pediatrics is a medical floor, psych isn't a medical floor so that's why I'm wondering if you can still be an FNP with no medical floor experience and only psych experience.
  3. Thanks for your responses! :)
  4. Did you feel like your RN experience helped you in your FNP program and in your FNP role (after graduation)?
  5. Thanks so much for your advice everyone! :)
  6. Thanks everyone for your responses! I feel better now :)
  7. Do you know if your friend had a difficult time in the FNP program trying to learn since she only has psych nursing experience?
  8. Thank you so much for your response! My passion is psych and I went into psych right after graduation. However, I'm just worried that if life happens and I have to move somewhere else, I might not find a psych job.
  9. Thank you so much for your response! There is an FNP program in my city. And then a post masters program in psych only an hour or two away from me. For the PMHNP, it is about five hours away from where I live. It'll be easier for my family (and cheaper for me) if I do a FNP program in my city.
  10. Can you be a FNP with only psych nursing experience? I haven't worked on a medical floor. My plan was to do FNP and then get a post masters in psych. Has anyone done this path before?

  12. Do any new grad psych nurses regret going to psych right after graduation with no medical floor experience? Is it difficult to land a medical floor job after a few years in psych nursing?
  13. Congratulations!!! I'm doing hurst review as well and I am testing in about two weeks . Did you find that studying medications were helpful for the nclex? Thanks and congratulations once again! :)
  14. Did/does your school offer a pinning ceremony for those graduating with a MSN NP? I'm just wondering because I graduated with a BSN a few days ago and I loved the pinning ceremony. It made my graduation special. I want to go to NP school and would love to experience a pinning ceremony again.
  15. Congratulations on getting accepted! I have not applied to the CSU Fresno FNP program but will do so in a few years. I am currently in a BSN program. So I was wondering if you can share any tips on getting accepted to the FNP program?
