  1. Are we talking nursing? Good luck ladies Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. There may be less critical patients in a smaller hospital but probably still more critical than med-surg. I would take it and use it as a foot in :)
  3. Chemistry, English & math, taking two sciences sucked but I made it through it just fine
  4. I will be 40 and July and will be graduating school and may I also have four kids ages 13, 10, 8 & 4. In my opinion if I can make it through nursing school anyone can but I can't say that I love it. Going to nursing school with kids for myself and my classmates with children has entailed us basically pushing our family off to the side but if your girls are ground it may not impact your family as much. There are parts of being a nurse that I love and our parts that I don't like as much but for me the good outweighs the bad. Patients can sometimes be frustrating and it is rough when the census is high or someone calls out. If you like caring for people you should enjoy being a nurse. I kind of have a love hate thing with school. I love learning but it has been so incredibly hard. If you aren't sure get a PRN job AS A CNA. THE Experience will let you know if it's up your alley or not. Best of luck!
  5. So, for the academy you rotate through the hospitals and then find out what jobs are open. You get to apply for your preference but are guaranteed no specific hospital/shift. While that's not guaranteed I've never heard of them bringing a new grad through the academy and then there is no job. It doesn't make sense to spend the money training them if you aren't going to hire them in the end.
  6. So I love ICU, I did an out rotation and I love the quality care you are able to give to patients, even though they are more sick. My problem is I don't like mucous. I hate it, it makes me squeamish. I can suction a patient, I just have to deal with it if there's a lot of secretions- it takes me a second to gather myself. Like suction, take a deep breath, turn head away, suction again Is this something I can overcome or will I hate it if I become an ICU nurse?
  7. I am thinking about moving to the Tampa or Newport Richey area because my parents live there. Can anyone tell me what the hospitals hire a new grad starting at? I live in North Carolina and it is around 21 and hour here I am just curious if it is comparable to Florida.
  8. Have you tried doing a patho, with s&s, medical treatments, nursing diagnosis and interventions, complications on the diseases you're studying?
  9. I don't know if I should transfer or if all schools are this awful, I know nursing school is hard but I feel like we're getting screwed. Everyone in my class is barely passing. The tests sometimes have questions that aren't even relevant to what we've studied. For example we were asked a questions about an intestinal parasite outbreak. Well I think I got it right but nowhere in out book did it say anything about parasites, it wasn't discussed in the lecture or on the powerpoints. So how am I supposed to be able to get the concept if that wasn't covered. Same about hydration of a child, we studied electrolytes but not the best method for rehydrating an exercising child. The only thing I could find on kids was how they dehydrate quicker. So in my books under nutrition, electrolytes and activity, nothing. Am I just supposed to pull this information out of the sky? How can I put together the puzzle if I don't at least have some base knowledge? Now on the hydrationi question yes I had base knowledge of electrolytes and dehydration but the parasite question never. And we had a trough question on htere that I guessed right but we didn't study anything that had to do with trough levels. Couple that with the fact that my school has a 50% pass rate this year I didn't find out til it was too late. I'm a single mom with kids busting my tail. I killed myself to get here and was an A student. I'm ok with not being an A student but I want to feel I have a fair shot and the pass rate along with the ridiculous busy work that prevents real studying is driving me crazy. And I'm so not a whiner, if it was just me freaking I'd think nothing of it but the entire class wants out
  10. I haven't started nursing school yet but I am starting in August. Prior to now I've always worked, I have 4 kids and make good grades. It's all about how bad you want it. If you can make it with loans its your business but I wouldn't want to pay all of that stuff back.
  11. My downfall was buying patent leather, they don't stretch. I bought alegrias and am having the danskos stretched
  12. I had teas questions that were chemistry and it's come up quite a bit in the respiratory system in a&p
  13. I just got a job as a nurse tech with a hospital, I'm starting nursing school in the fall. When I got my danskos I was told to make sure my heel is free when I walk and slides in and out, I did this but the first day I wore the shoes only one foot hurt. He right foot across the top of my foot and the ben d in my toes when I walk was killing me. The other foot felt fine, I'm just wondering if I need a new pair???
  14. I'd love to hear more too
  15. I love, love, love my ipad! I bought a wireless printer and print my notes off when I get home. My notes also sync to google drive so they're backed up and I can pull them off to work on a computer at school if I need to. For me it's so much faster and more efficient, I don't miss things the instructor is saying because I can type faster than I write.
  16. It's tough but you can do it. I took charm and a&p I with other classes last semester. I knew it would be hard but I knew if I didn't take them I'd be delayed another year. You can do it as long as you want and are dedicated to finish, I had 14 hrs, 4 kids & worked 50 hrs a week
  17. Try not to stress, a&p is overwhelming, it overtakes your other classes and you spend alot of time studying and it can get you down because its so much. ! You just have to take it day by day and one test at a time. Last semester was really stressful for me. This semester of anatomy is WAY easier. Same workload I just know what I'm in for with studying. YOU CAN DO IT!
  18. Same problem here. We have 4 kids and I work and am in school full time. I usually wor 40 hrs from thurs night to sun morning. My kids complain that they never see me and one even cried about it last week it makes me really sad but we BARELY make ends meet so I don't hae a choice here. Plus they will all want cars and need to go to college one day. Just keep with it, try to eat dinner with you friend once or twice a month and tell her how you're feeling. If this were easy a lot more people would be a nurse.

I made an a last semester and am tutoring a&p this semester. I used quizlet for flashcards, I listen to them On my phone in the car. I also print them out. I take notes and class and I read the book, highlight what seems important and re-write/re-type the notes in my own words. Review notes everyday, take all practice quizzes if you have them, online. A&p is one of those classes that requires a bit of obsession. Oh I also bought dry erase markers and sheet protectors and would print off the labeling charts and use the dry erase to fill them in. Blank labeling on one side and another printed with answers on the other side. Te writing helped me remember spelling come quiz time. It's one of those classes that requires tons of exposure & repetition for me. I worked my butt off for my grade and earned every point :)
  20. Take the teas practice test on ati's website it's a REALLY good overview of what's on there. I took it and scored a 60 somethign and then scored 74% on the real test , it will tell you EXACTLY what to study :)
  21. Anatomy is way easier than physiology
  22. I'm applying to 3 schools and I hav e no idea how to pick if I'm accepted at all 3. One is local with an 82 or 85% nclex rate about 20 min from me The other is 10 miles away and out of state with a 92% nclex pass rate The other is 70 mi one way but has a 100% pass rate One other factor here is that we have 4 kids that I am primarily responsible for shuttling around. One has swim practice at 4:30 everyday BUT I am open to stopping that to allow me to finish school if its necessary Thoughts?
  23. Well I'm glad to hear it makes things easier. Also you never know! My aunt is an Lpn and makes more than she would with a BSn because she's in management.
  24. I really just wanted to go the rn route and be finished but we have 4 kids, I'm in home health care and my client isn't sleeping well which means I'm not either! After a lengthy discussion my husband and I feel it's best for me to go for Lpn then bridge. My oldest needs braces every vehicle is on it's last leg etc etc. is anyone else facing these challenges? I HATE to wait a year in between finishing Lpn school and going to the bridge program but ill be working on my BSn pre-Reqs so it won't be a waste.
  25. I got a&pi and chemistry done this semester, spring is a&pII, psy, eng and critical thinking :)
