Wound and vac assistance?
I hope some wound nurse can help me out! I am a new grad (going on 4 months exp) working in short term rehab. I work for a level 1 tc / teaching center but our facility is off campus and due to our patient population accepted we have fewer resource than our main campus friends. My question finally - since the entirety of the patient's wound cannot visualized, should the nurses push towards different therapy? I trust my PA's call but I just felt that since there might possible more underneath this wound if another treatment would be better. Also, is there a good resource for wound vacs out there? I checked KCl's website but found it hard to navigate and that their education wasn't towards nursing. Thanks

CNA II or Phlebotomy?
CNA II in NC. What are you going to school for now?

Should I get my free laptop?

Graduate Nursing schools with no GRE
Just my 2 cents but I don't think having a rare genetic disorder makes you any higher candidate for grad school. Grad school is most likely ranking candidates off of grades/experience/money (tuition)... Not trying to be rude, simply stating an opinion.

I would think that the desired effect would be a normal heart rate, or normal sinus rhythm. Bradycardia ==

Should I wait to have a baby?
I am 26 years old. I had my first baby in between my Junior and Senior year. 3 weeks before the start of my Fall/Senior semester I gave birth via unplanned c-section with postpartum-PIH. Then had terrible time bonding because of stupid postpartum depression. Now obviously I didn't plan for these complications but it was now really hard!! During classes I was okay being all fat and pregnant. I didn't have any health problems during. No special accommodations was given in class or clinical. Baby appointments had to be scheduled around my 2 classs days (T&Th 920-3pm) and 3 clinical days (MWF 630-2pm). Then I worked weekends waitressing. I got very sick after I had the baby. Then I had to find childcare to meet the above schedule plus time to study. I would cram study week nights so long as I had a babysitter *Thank the Heavens for grandma!* I didn't fail anything, and graduated this May Spring semester was 100x harder because baby was about 6 months old and turned mobile. I couldn't just put her in her swing for an hour beside me while I did homework. I had to take her with me to study some days. My husband works for racing and was at the shop 7-6ish M-F and weekends was usually gone. It was just me and good ole' grandma helping me some days. There was a clinical night where I stayed up to write a patho, finally fell asleep and baby woke -.- It sucked. To end my short little story - It is hard, either before, or after, or both to have a new baby during nursing school. It is hard to have older children during nursing school. It can be done though. Just don't forget that baby has its own plans and so does your body. Make sure that you understand that mommyhood or school may have to be sacrificed in the event that something doesn't go perfectly. It is up to your amount of determination and whatever help you can scrounge up if you want to succeed. But remember that "Well I have a newborn"..."I'm pregnant" is a LAME excuse to fail or use when you're running late, don't have your homework, are not prepared for clinical, have to miss class etc.. Especially when it has been done before.

Shortest Interview
Not yet! Tuesday marks two weeks and she told me HR "should be in contact with you in about 2 weeks, but sometimes it takes longer". After the interview I sent a thank you email and she responded that I was nice to talk to and hopefully will hear from HR soon EEK I want to work at this facility so bad. I was thinking of following up again if I don't hear back after 3 weeks. I don't want to seem desperate (even though I am)

Shortest Interview
Hi! I just had (what I feel is) the shortest interview ever. I am a new grad, scheduled to take the NCLEX July 1. I have been applying for jobs and have had one interview where I didn't get the job. Fast forward yesterday I received a call from my dream hospital. They wanted an interview with me today. I showed up a little early, waited in the lobby. Once inside the conference room the interviewer asked me what I was looking for. I responded and then she tells me about their facility and proceeds to show me around the hall I interviewed for. She introduced me to RT and one of the charge nurses. As we were walking she asked me about my shift preference. After that we went back to the conference room and she allowed me to as some questions. Following that she gave me her card and told me to call/email with additional questions..and that was it. As I was leaving I asked her if it was to forward of me to ask that if I was selected for candidacy would I hear back within 2 weeks or a month or so? She responded that it usually takes 2-3 weeks but she hopes that it would be sooner, so she hopes about 2 weeks. I felt like this was an extremely short interview. She didn't inquire about skills or ask me any questions about myself. Have you ever had an interview like this?

Hurst Review Question
Yes but which are "Core" topics available for 90 days, and which are "Specialty" topics available for 1 year?

Hurst Review Question
I am looking to purchase the Online Hurst Review and was curious to know what are the "Hurst's Core Content lectures." I understand I will only have 90 days access to them, but I wanted to know what the topics were. I am set to graduate in May. My last two classes are community health and leadership. While I was pregnant during my second semester of nursing school I didn't retain hardly any of the material. So now I am playing catch up in preparation for the NCLEX (& the ATI predictor scheduled in Jan) I'm thinking I will use my winter break to review the material from my 2nd semester. Plus I know it doesn't hurt to review the other materials as well.

Pregnant, Work FT, Nursing School FT!!! Help!
I had my first baby 1 month and 5 days ago! I am a senior in a BSN program. My mom is babysitting for me during school and clinical. I have a back up babysitter just in case. Hubby helps during evenings and we share responsibility during nights. While I was pregnant last semester I thankfully didn't have any issues. I had a healthy pregnancy which allowed me to go to school full time along with clinicals on a med/surg unit and a peds unit. Towards my third trimester I just had to have assistance transferring patients. Its not that I couldn't handle the weight, as mush as *fear* I was going to accidentally get hurt. My clinical groups were super supportive, as well as my instructors in school.

What are you doing summer break?

How "OLD" are ATI questions really?
I find ATI annoying, but extremely helpful, especially when it comes to simplifying content. Do you read the updated ATI modules/books? Mine teaches CAB... ATI gives you structured information, without extra fluff/detail. When I need to know the full pathology, etiology etc. I refer to by larger textbooks. They have tons more information (some I need, some I don't). We are given multiple tools to help learn. I use ATI, my textbooks, NCLEX books, review and rationale books. There is no one way to present information, hence the multiple sources - just like there is no single med/surg, psych, pediatric etc. textbook. Nursing is a collaborative profession. NOW...Do I want to pay for ATI? Not necessarily, but it is what my program chooses to use, therefor I am stuck with that bill
