  1. I've worked nights for about 3 1/2 years now. I love it. To me, it's well worth it. More pay, less management, a bit more down time, and because you don't always have the resources that you do on days, you get to build more self-confidence and knowledge. Calling a grumpy doctor is no big deal to me, I would rather wake them up and get yelled at then not and have a patient crash on me. That being said, I have only worked nights, am single, and have no kids. My responsibilities are limited in that department.
  2. You record the ventilator alarm and set it as your text alert, just to watch your friends that are nurses reactions when not at work.
  3. Thanks Cali, if I don't hear from her by the end of the week, I'll go up to DON. But I won't keep all my proverbial eggs in one basket. I'm going to start looking tomorrow.
  4. I'm an LPN working nights, full time in an ICU. I just got accepted to a RN program that starts in the fall. My biggest concern is working full time while in school full time. I've discussed going PT with my supervisor, with plenty of advance notice, and all I get is "I'll look into it." I would like to get this figured out soon because our schedules are made a month and a half in advance. I don't want to lose my position in the ICU because that's where I want to end up after graduating. Do I go above her to the DON or just start looking for something else that will let me go part time?
