What to do?
If you do something you love you will never work a day in your life. I say go with your gut and do what you have always wanted to do. Maybe the psych. position is paying less now but that may not always be the case, and i have learned that money in nursing does not equal happiness with your job. Good luck!

New nurse - slightly over a year experience - how to get into Med Surge
From my experience searching for jobs med/surg floors are always hiring!! It sounds like you have great experience and are willing to try/do anything the job requires. All you need to do is apply and say exactly what you said here during an interview!! I dont think you will have a problem, good luck my friend!! :)

Is it possible to get into a NICU?
Ive been working as a med/surg/tele nurse in a med/surg and observation unit for about 9 months now and it is NOT where I want to stay. I got into nursing with the desire to be a NICU nurse, that desire and passion has not gone away. I have been trying to get an interview in a NICU bt i cant even get a call back or an interview. I guess im just getting a bit discouraged and frustrated. Can anyone give me some advice, or even some encouragment would go a long way!! Do I just need to get more experience? Is it really a good idea to get a general med/surg background if you want to specialize in NICU? Anything is helpful!! Thanks sooooo much in advance!!

new grad unsure about nursing
I can feel your pain!! Im also a new nurse, ive been on the job for about 8 months so it wasnt long ago that i was still orienting.... and terrified of EVERYTHING you just described!! I was afraid of not documenting correctly, doing a procedure wrong, forgetting to chart somethng important, giving a bad report and it could go on and on and on and on!!! I can also tell you that it does get better, all be it slowly, but it DOES get better!! You willl slowly learn the best way to manage your time and how to deligate tasks to utilize everyones skills in the best ways. Remember that along with your experience come a very pretty and impressive resumee, with that resumee you can land some of the jobs that dont require pt care and can be a bit less stressful. Keep your head up and keep thinking on your feet, Im sure you are doing better than you think you are. Good luck!!

To all "medical coverage is a privilege" folks:
I work at a public hospital in NY, i see medicaid/medicare used, abused, and taken for all it is worth on a daily basis. It is honestly sickening. You may say that im heartless but i think after the age of 18 you are an adult, you and you alone should be responsible for your own healthcare whether that is cost or staying healthy as a preventative measure to avoid any cost. Under the age of 18 you are considered a child, i think all children deserve the right to have healthcare. Im sorry but if you ate yourself into a bed and now cant move, it is not societies responsibility to take care of you.

Where are all the young nurses?
We are here but as many people have said most places want 1 year of acute care experience, but if no one will hire you how do you get that experience?? I looked for 6 months before i found a place to take a chance on young (25) inexperienced me!! I think there are also alot of new nurses who get a glimpse of what bedside nursing actually is and run for the hills, there are times i want to run for the hills myself!! I know ill def. be going into an NP program at some point, i just want 3-5 years of experience first.
