I'm very excited! I had just decided to accept that I didn't get in and move on. The giggling and hooting you guys hear from just north of the Columbia River is me - pay no mind.

I wouldn't give up a sure spot for a potential spot. It may be more difficult for the school to fill late openings, but it's how the system is set up. You have to do what's right for you.

Time to settle in and enjoy the wait. Thanks for the info!

OHSU acceptances/alternates
I would suspect a little bit after the 25th to allow for postmark dates. They may also make phone calls to people who don't reply by the deadline just to make sure. That would still put notifications around the first of June, so I'll start getting antsy around then. That said, it seems like there was a longer delay for the accelerated program between the original notification and the first day of phone calls. I hope we don't have to wait much into June, but ya never know.

University of Portland 2012
For those of you who were accepted, how many of you are taking out loans for this program? I assume that most students did not get the Prov Scholarship and are looking for their own funding. Is the cost a concern for you? How much (estimate) do you plan to cover through private loans? If you've already secured your loans, how difficult was it to get such a large amount? Thanks

It's great to see a lot of you have been accepted into programs! After all the work of pre-requisites and applying, a lot of the questions are finally being answered. Congratulations to runnergirl09, osuchris, lilpoka, nwnursing, rcj2009, niskagirl, portland medic, gabrianam and skills21! (did I miss anybody?) Congrats to all the others on getting on the waitlist. Fingers crossed for you!

OHSU acceptances/alternates
I'm a bit surprised that we've only heard from one person who got in. I'd love to hear from more. I am on the alternate list and I'm very hopeful. I'm trying not to be too hopeful, though, for obvious reasons, but it is what it is. Thanks again for sharing your conversation with the OHSU admissions office, Portland Medic. I know they didn't give you much information, but her words do give us some hope. Fingers crossed for all of us.

Hi Osuchris, Thanks for the insight into these programs and good luck with your decisions in the upcoming month. Also, I definitely agree with promoting CNA experience. A friend of mine who is an RN has told me how much her CNA experience helped her during both school and work. I will graduate from my CNA program in 4 or 5 weeks and will be in the job market at that point. Again, thanks and congratulations! Cheers

Valeriatackitt, I'm so sorry. I would expect that along with your good grades, your second language proficiency would have been extremely desirable. This is strong evidence of an amazingly competitive year and program. Good luck in your apps next year! Osuchris, Congratulations! In the words of Thomas Edison, "Holy Crap!" (I'm sure he said this at some point). If I may ask, what do you feel are ups and downs of PCC's program in comparison to OHSU? I admit that I am not very familiar with their program, but that said, it sure would be difficult to turn down an OHSU spot. Congratulations again and good luck with everything!

Portland medic, Congrats on getting an alternate spot. I've got my fingers crossed for you. Nurse Laura, I thought my application was pretty strong. I have a 4.0 in pre-reqs, almost 10 years experience as a paramedic, volunteer search and rescue experience and leadership as well as an AS in electrical engineering with work and management experience in this field. I was also very pleased with my essay. My cumulative GPA is mid 3's from several classes I took about 20 years ago. This may have made the difference for me. The warnings from my mother are proving to be true so many years later. I've also gained a strong appreciation for the quality of students that are being accepted into the area programs. The word "competitive" doesn't come close to describing it. I'll likely remove my credentials from this post later, but it's therapeutic for me right now to put it all out there and possibly helpful to others as they are hopeful to get in. Cheers and good luck all!

Hi emmyers, The letter states that they won't tell us where we rank, but that admission is a possibility for all alternates. I'm going to pretend that I'm first on the list, though, so all future comments will be based on this delusion.

Me as well (re: V-tach). I just received my notice - postmarked yesterday. I'm on the alternate list. I'll try to remain hopeful, but not too hopeful. But hopeful. Good luck to everyone else!
