  1. Congrats!! You now know that 1. there are good residents and bad ones:yeah: 2. Staffing will only get better by the existing staff having good attitudes:cheers: 3. A nurse a can do their own vitals on certain pts 4. You can prioritize:redlight: 5. 6. Five months? This is for you  Hang in there, you made it this far. See me in another 5 and let me know how you are doing. PS always remember to CYA!!! COVER YOUR ASSESSMENTS!!!!
  2. I would refer the students back to the instructors. There could be an area that the instructors need to review or change their teaching styles if the majority of students are not getting the information. The students may not have issues with the information but may have trouble taking the exam itself. Test anxiety!! Good Luck
  3. Every facility is different. I would talk to some of the nurses or a CNS of the unit if there is one about the preferences of the facility or md's. Some classes that come to mind are paralytics such as nimbex, sedation diprivan, misc meds dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, insulin, lasix, cardizam, cardene, nitro, nipride, neo, epi, amiodarone. ICU is not all meds review your ventilator settings and be familiar with the ICU lingo-peep, vit d, tube, fms.
  4. Nursing school is very demanding and stressful by itself. School will take time away from your friends and family. Long clinical days and study group time will take a terrible toll on you. I have seen a lot of relationships consisting of jobs, marriages, and personal lives change over the course of school. Just remember your goal is to get through in a timely manner. Set your goals and make them known. Things have a way of working out.
  5. Certain students will go to extremes to cheat. Catching them is a different story. In todays technologically advanced world the cheaters are very high tech. I have found 1. texting in groups 2. taking pictures of exam and mms to someone to answer test questions and text 3. Recording the test on an optic pen that downloads the exam at a later time 4. sharing calculators with the answers on the screen 5. Memory or scientific calculators with answers and formulas entered in them. I now have them using my dollar store special calculators and no phones or smartphones out on the desk. Does anyone else have ideas? I tell them not to waste their time cheating because in clinical it is pass or fail and I use the student handbook the fullest by giving oral questions or written quizzes as supplement participation grades.

  7. On the very first day of clinical my students get the lecture of being part of a profession nurse and what it takes to be professional, therefore the students are professional (nursing) students. I would have failed the student earlier for nonprofessional attitude. In your situation and using your own words of "The student commented that it seemed like a bit much" shows an aspect of critical thinking on the students part. I would have failed the student for other reasons but I would have to explore why the student thought the dose was wrong and then found where the student went wrong in reading the order twice.
  8. I used it for Pharmacology and found a glitch in the system. The students login time was very delayed and sometimes did not show that they did an assignment. I found the questions and test bank to be very helpful in generating fresh questions for the quizzes and exams.
  9. It is good ot vent! I would look for an alternative program. Online maybe? Remember that no matter how the progam may treat you, you bring a lot of experience with you!!
  10. If you feel that it is a system failure that is setting up the situation to fail (creating a med error) then you need to call "Risk Management" ASAP. A root cause analysis will be done to find out where and how a mistake can be made and how it can be averted before injury or loss of life is caused. Remember this injury is not only to the patient but to the nurse that may not catch the error in time as you did.
