  1. Sorry I meant no way I'd get in for spring 2014.
  2. Well that doesn't make any sense. I applied in August of 2012. I have a 3.7 GPA and I only have Micro left to take. (I broke my classes up because i didn't want to sit for an entire year with no classes to take) And was told there's no way I'll be getting in for Spring 2012. I'll be making a call on Monday that's for sure. Because after micro I have NOTHING left to take, that includes all classes for my BSN. I have all them completed. Frustrating. I thought they went by application date.
  3. I'm also interested in this program and would appreciate any feedback.
  4. The CSU accelerated program gives you a BSN after 15 months, NOT an ADN. I'm considering the program myself. I could potentially shave a year or two off my total school time by going that route
  5. I do have 2 kids. And want another baby. So after talking to advisors and reading stuff on here, I've decided LCCC is the route. I can't dedicate 40hrs a week to classes and clinicals, raise my kids, take care of a house, and still have time to study and sleep. Lol. It's a longer route, but LCCC-OU online RN-BSN will be my route:) thanks for the advice.
  6. https://www.transfer.org/uselect/
  7. Sorry actually the website is transfer.org/uselect
  8. Go to u.select.com it's a transfer courses website. You can find what classes will transfer where. It's a little difficult to navigate, but very helpful. But it doesn't tell you if they will take a similar course in replacement of a required course. (Like i was able to get department approval for statistics at LCCC even though i didn't have the exact pre-req class, but i had 2 other classes that together allowed me to get approval. )For that you will most likely have to apply to the school and have your transcripts evaluated.
  9. Didn't know they have a part-time option. Either way I'm sure you'll do great!
  10. I have 2 children (9 & 2) and I'm starting my pre-req's for nursing. I already have a BA in another field (did that when the 9 yo was 2-7). Kids are a lot of work, but really other than lack of sleep the first few weeks/months/(17 months for my second child b4 he slept thru the night every night)ouch, right? Lol) kids, especially newborns sleep a lot. They demand more actually attention the older they get. And remember if you don't have money for extras now with just your husbands salary...you won't have enough for cable with a baby. Diapers, clothes, toys, baby food, formula (if you don't breast feed) insurance for the baby...it adds up!! And quick! Plus, you'll need childcare. That being said, kids grow up fast. And working full time, going to school, a house, a husband, a marriage, a life AND a baby=too much, and something wouldn't get the attention it or they require or deserve! Because of this I would go option C. If financially it works for you. It's realistically the best option for success in my opinion. Although if your husband makes enough to pay the bills, I'd sacrifice spending and save as much of your salary while working full time as possible, in case you decide to quit all together after the baby (which many women do decide). Although I'm not in grad school, I do know it can be done. I have a friend who is a RN (went into the RN program while her youngest of 3 was a few months old) she is in a grad program, works weekends, has 3 kids (whom she home schools) has a husband, works out, Does. It. All!! Anything can be done if you want it badly enough! But just remember this, you can get a dream job at anytime, save money or buy nice things later, school will always be there. But you can't always have children later, and waiting 5 years til your done with school is a long time. And unlike the other things, the option might not always be there!
  11. I want to register for Fall classes while I'm at it. Any recommendations for A&P I or Micro professors?? Is it a bad idea to take those both together??
  12. What professor did you have?
  13. Yeah, I'm normally an A student. Math is a sore spot for me, but most people say that stats isn't like normal math. I'm also taking chemistry online. I don't work, and I have kids, but I'll have plenty of time to get the work done during nap time, early morning, and early bedtimes. Hearing that it is possible makes me want to try it. But not sure if I should take the gamble.
  14. Question: I'm registered for chemistry and statistics online courses this summer. I heard from someone that stats is really hard to take online. Any input??
  15. I wish they had a pre-nursing class that you could take before you get into the program. To weed out the people who realize half way thru their first semester that nursing isn't for them. Because once a seat is taken its taken. And I've heard of people dropping out of the program.
  16. And the advisers told me the wait list is 461. Ouch! Then again, I wonder how many of those people have gotten accepted into other schools, or pursued other avenues and just never bothered to call and have their name taken off the list.
  17. No, I didn't take chemistry in high school. But even if I had that was 13 years ago, so I'm sure it would be outdated. LOL. Man I feel old!
  18. Well I can't apply until I complete Chemistry this summer. I'll be cutting it close. Last day of class is July 29. Deadline to apply is August 4th. Enjoy your summer off! And let us know how the program is going!
  19. Wantccu: congrats on getting into the program! And good luck. I too, have kids. Which is why LCCC is so appealing! And we want one more. So I'll have to try and squeeze that in somewhere. Lol. I'm starting my pre-Reqs this summer. And of everything goes well, I'll finish with them in the Spring of 2013. I also already have all of my BSN support classes done because of my previous degree. So there won't be any classes for me to take starting next summer until I get into the nursing program. I doubt I'll get in for the fall 2013 program. But I hope to be able to start 2014. Ugh 2 years from now! So I'll either take a break and hopefully plan for a child next summer, or apply for Tri-C fall start, if I don't get in at LCCC. So many decisions!!!
  20. I have thought about the Accelerated Program, but the intensity scares me. I have 2 children and I'm concerned how many hours I'll be away. I asked the advisers how many hours a week the program is on average, one told me 40 hours, the other said she couldn't say.
  21. @NicuGal. Does that mean that employers look at BSNs differently based on whether or not you went for a straight 4 year degree or the ADN then RN-BSN route?
  22. ScottE. Are you in the generic or accelerated track?
  23. I'm gonna call Tri-C tomorrow and see what my options are. I like having a back up plan. I know I'll have to pay childcare. But at LCCC it's $2.50/hr for students. That's really cheap. Not sure if that's available for clinicals or not. But still it eases the financial burden. Plus the campus is 10-15 mins away. And I looked online an the accelerated track at tri-c says its offered at metro, I'd need west shore so I'll look into that. I think you can choose from clinical sites, I've heard of people doing them at Mercy in Lorain. So maybe the UH students you've seem have just chosen that location??? Do you know where you want to work? That's exciting to have one semester left. I have a friend that's a male nurse. And he says once you have your BSN it's all the same. And that as long as the school accredited employers (in his experience) don't focus so much on where you went. They look at your volunteer work/experience/references etc.
  24. I would love to do an accelerated program. In fact I called CSUs program 1st. But unfortunately it's 45 minutes away. I was told its 5 days a week. Full time (40 hours) and VERY intense, not sure when I would study with all that time plus 2 hours a day in commute. I have a 9 year old and a 2 year old. And childcare would run me about $200 a week, even more in the summer. Plus gas and mileage on my lease. My husband makes too much money for us to get childcare assistance yet he doesn't make enough to afford $800 plus a month in childcare. Big time bummer for me. I looked into Firelands. Looks like a good program, but you have to be in Erie County. I'm in Lorain. Frustration is the name of the game I'm playing. I want my BSN and as I said I'll do the online program. If I have to wait until that's done to get a job, it's what I'll do. And doing a straight BSN doesn't make sense either, by the time I get my ADN and do a 15 month online. I'm looking at the same amount of time (and less money on childcare) than if I did a BSN which would still be 3 years at least.
  25. Yeah, that was a derrrr moment. I'm not originally from the area, so I didn't realize. Thought they were 2 different programs. Almost like an IT-T school. My situation is tricky. I already have a BA in Child Dev. I'm registered to take Chem & Stats online at LCCC this summer. I have 2 kids, and live in Amherst. No family close by, and a hubs that works over 80 hours a week. LCCC is close, and child care is more than affordable ($2.50/hr) I need to only take my science classes (A&P 1 & II, Micro, and as I mentioned chem &stats) then I'm all done with any pre-req's for both the ADN and the OU online RN-BSN (which I plan to do after my ADN) so I'll finish all the sciences this spring. I really don't want to sit for a year and wait at LCCC, but travel to Cleveland for clinicals would be far (over 40 mins) how many days are your clinicals a week? And I looked online the nurse classes at Tri-C look to be broad and fewer courses, do they just cover multiple areas in a single class? My goal is pediatrics or neonatal (I didn't see either of those in the Tri-c course list like I do at other schools. Then there is the case of Child care. Does Tri-C offer that? And which courses can be taken at west shore? Also I think I read on another post that LCCC chem won't transfer to TrI-C??? Sorry for the million questions. I just wasted a lot of time, and money with my previous degree (received poor advise from my advisor) and don't want to waste anymore time/energy/money:) thanks for your advice!!!! Much appreciated!!
