Im in California and considered moving back to NJ and doing ramp....but I can tell you that in the paperwork there usually is something about policies if the participant has a shy bladder. Up to and including self-cath in some cases. They simply arent going to let you not be observed. Sorry.

Has anyone ever transferred diversion programs? Ive been in California's since Aug 2012. I am eligible for NJ's and probably NY's as well, and I was wondering if anyone has switched. I would be switching for family reasons as well as school. Does anyone know the length of time of either of those programs? Anyone have experience with either??

Thanks for all your concern guys. I was just frustrated. I am so distracted by the board proceedings that it is taking me away from getting better. Ive got 2 appointments (psych, therapy) this week and looking for addictionologist and caduceus. By the way, does anyone know if there is a national database of sorts for the caduceus meetings? All Ive ever found was like AA for doctors. Or random meetings in Michigan or Wyoming. When I contacted the board they said they only provide meetings for people in their program which I am not in yet. :redbeatheI will keep you posted about my (hopeful) progress.

you know guys, I know that finding me on the floor is "not good" and that i "should" be reported, but I was clean for a while and relapsed, am in a lot of pain because of my actions, and am trying to pick up the pieces. I just wanted a little foresight from anyone who had been through this with the board. I dont need patronizing remarks or questions about what I was using. Does it matter? How about some support- please remember we are ALL at risk for this disease.

I was told my employer is going to the BON with information about an incident where my NM found me on the floor with a needle in the bathroom. Hosp sent me home, wouldnt drug test me, wouldnt let me go to ER. Now theyre writing a report and sending it to the board. I wrote one also, but without admission to anything. I got a drug screen the next day and it was negative. If someone reports me, what happens next?

all of you are in my prayers. i relapsed the other day- at work. God was pulling me away from the drug and I didnt listen. I am begging the Lord to keep it from getting found out and am looking for caduceus meetings and state peer support groups in the San Fran area asap. it a sin...we devote ourselves to the care of others. No matter what you believe, be it in God or nature or whatever, we put out good energy and love for others. When we get sick we dont get treated the same way.

Unless the baby is born to a known low-income family, send them home with instructions, a few diapers, and let that be it. Goody bags are absolutely ridiculous. The majority of these patients have showers for that. This isnt like going to McDonalds and getting a toy with your happy meal. Think of the money wasted, which could be better spent hiring an extra social worker or advocate for teen moms, moms without supports systems in place, or an extra lactation consultant/educator. Also, this is a hospital, not a hotel. We wonder why patients get so needy and demanding. Its because they forget that they are in a place designed to provide medical care and support while they bring their new blessing (their GIFT) into the world. An L&D unit is not all rainbows and flowers- its a unit just like any other part of the hospital. And some moms leave there with a sick baby or no baby at all. Any intelligent new parent will be overwhelmed with gratitude just for the blessing of a healthy, new baby. No extras needed.

as far as travel companies I would recommend cross country. As far as hospitals, the majority of them are wonderful. I worked at NYU for years and it was fantastic. I heard Mt. Sinai is good (I was a patient there for appendix surgery) but I believe it is very busy. Lenox Hill is a smaller, more low-key....maybe a good place to start for you. Id recommend that as your first NYC assignment. NYC is unlike working anywhere else in the country. Id also recommend staying away from Columbia/Cornell for your first assignment unless you are really brave. Those patients are super sick and they do all kinds of crazy state of the art procedures.

[color=#a52a2a]hey guys, i have signed up with ram (remote area medical) here in the us to volunteer as an rn on their expeditions. i am really excited, however i am currently living in california. now ram holds some clinics in ca but the majority are in appalachia (which is really where i want to go!) does anyone know of ways to get discounted flights/train tickets? clearly this is something i want to do but flights to tn, ky, and va alone are around $500! i very much want to help and i dont know of any resources. it really doesnt seem fair!

wow guys, thanks for the input. i am glad i have people to help me not go into this blind. i have been working 6 yrs as a nurse, the last 5 in a 970 bed major medical center in nyc, in the icu. i have a lot of skills that took a really long time to learn, and i swear if i were on the receiving end of a reminder to chart someone elses handwashing, i would just lay down and die. a 2-person central line dressing change? i dont even know what to say. im working with talemed and they have all these assignments but they are kaiser and i am doing my best to stay away. i like a hospital that strives for safety, competence and compassion, not "perfection" and policing each other. thats big talk for an organization that floats people 3 times a shift....i guess continuity of care isnt a priority. is this the nursing culture in ca in general?

anyone struggle with this personally or know someone who has? Id love to hear your story.

hey guys, my little brother is special ops stationed in san diego and after seeing what he and his guys have gone through, i want to be of service to them in some way. i know that sd has a large naval medical center- anyone here worked at it? i am a civilian but have 4 yrs icu experience and 6 overall. do they accept civilians? is it hard to get a position? what is the dynamic like? i dont know anything about "rank" and stuff, and a military hospital might not be best for me if that is such a huge issue, you know, i may not be military but i know patients and illness and i know it well. i expect to be treated with respect not looked down upon bc i dont have military experience. that being said i cant think of a better way to honor these men and women than by serving them. and that is the pull for me. advice much appreciated!

[color=#cc0033]hey guys! i am a first time traveler who has worked in nyc as staff in an icu for 5 years and 2 before that in florida. i have started to work with talemed and i know that the majority of their assignments are with kaiser. i wanted to know what you guys have experienced there as travelers, if you have been. an md who i worked with in nyc works there now as an intensivist. he told me that there is a lot of backstabbing, that if you do something wrong, you wont hear about it for 2 months and then you'll be spoken to by a nm, you have to really watch what you say, that it is very political. this doesnt sit well with me; obviously all hospitals have their issues, but i spent the last 5 years in one of the toughest, largest hospitals in the city and i had a lot of autonomy. i was treated with respect and treated others with respect- issues were spoken about directly, there was rarely any "tattling" or going behind peoples backs (at least that i saw). [color=#cc0033]we even called docs by their first names! [color=#cc0033] i dont take kindly to being spoken down to by anyone or cattiness; i just dont get it. so any info on what to expect as far as the nursing culture in cali would be appreciated. thanks guys!!! :thankya:

[color=#cc66cc]luna, it's so funny that you posted this because i just joined this website today specifically so i could ask people about kaiser. i have never traveled before, i have 6 yrs icu experience, 5 of them in nyc as staff. now i am working with talemed, because they were rated so highly on highway hypodermics and because every question i asked my recruiter was answered in a competent and honest way. he even told me to sign with 2 agencies just so i could always find the assignment i want. talemed staffs a lot of kaiser hospitals. i want to know if anyone has any specific experience as a traveler to kaiser.
