  1. Hello all. I am just curious, do both of you who replied have families to make your payment lower? I find as a single guy if I make around $55,000 my payment is around $300 with that program. Do I need to get married and have kids? lol Thanks.
  2. I appreciate your feedback. For anyone else who might read this, if anyone knows more about the legal aspects about her staying in the US as an RN, I'd love to know. And maybe she is just out of luck and will be sent back to a violent country. And where I live, there are many jobs available. Even if there is no shortage, there is still a demand for nurses. As I said, many want to hire her. Just seems strange that she is willing to help but no one will allow her too even short term. Why is it she can no longer work as a CNA if she has an RN degree. Legally she can no longer work as an aide?
  3. I am writing on behalf of my friend who recently graduated and passed the NCLEX. Top of her class in nursing school and due to her international status no one will hire her as an RN and now is living out of her car. She is legally here for another 10 months. That is crazy to me she is an RN and cannot get ANY work. She has another 10 months in the US before she must leave. I have two questions. 1. she'd like to stay and work here, is that possible long term? Knowing there is a demand for nurses? She thinks it isn't. And 2, is anyone hiring Rn's for short term status if that is the case. She can no longer work as a CNA due to her RN status it seems. She was let go from all of her CNA jobs once they found out she passed NCLEX. Just crazy to me, with the nursing shortage, she cannot find work anywhere. She has tired everywhere. She is not holding out for the perfect job. Again, people would love to hire her but it seems their hands are tied. Any advice, lawyers, routes for her to take would be appreciated especially for her to stay in the US and work as an RN. And yes, I have offered her to stay with me but she is too proud being from Africa. Thank you to anyone who has advice for me.
  4. This is an honest question. When I change my nephews diaper I have a horrible gag reflex after he's had a bowel movement. Am I going to have trouble in nursing school and even after working as an RN when working with patients? I am hoping it's something I just get used to and can get over in time but not sure how much control I have over it. Its triggered by smell more than sight. Oh yeah, I am a man with no kids so changing him is new to me and not part of my usual routine. Any feedback is welcoime.
  5. I am accepted into a BSN program which doesn't start till early next year. I am also wait listed at two PA schools. Getting into PA school is brutal. It can be done obviously but many PA schools get 500-1200 applications for 30-40 spots. So many very qualified and very smart people are not getting in. I could be one of them. So, I would have a back up plan just in case you do not get in. Then it's up to you how long you wish to keep trying for PA and putting your life on hold. I have no issue with either field. Part of me like the security of RN as I get older. Also, PA's have to take a board every 6 years I believe right now which coudl be 10 soon I heard. So when I am 65 and still wanting to work, do I really want to take a national board and if I don't do well, I am out of a job? You're younger so you don't have to worry about that I would think. I'm in my 40s already. But again, PA is much more difficult to get into and it's smart to have a back up plan. If you don't get in this year or next for PA, are you willing to put your life on hold to try again a year later and might have the same results? But if you do go for it, I do hope you get in first time around. There are some great stratigic books you might want to look into that help, one is by Andrew Rodican 3rd edition. And no, I am not Andrew lol.
  6. I got accepted to for May 2012 but I am choosing to wait to go to OU's 2013 accelerated program which also accepted me, just found out. Even though it's 6 or 7 months more to wait, I'd rather save 30 k at least. I just can't seem to justify paying 55 k or so when I know how hard it is to pay it back after paying rent, car, living expenses. But I wish everyone luck and don't slack on studying, I hear it's brutal but do-able!
  7. I got in as well. I just wish I could start in the fall but I'm happy. I took patho at OCC and hoping they will accept it but if not I guess I'll take it over the summer. In the acceptance letter they do say if you took any of those three somewhere else, send in a transcript. What is Informatics, any idea?
  8. What is Informatics? I'm wondering if taking patho and informatics would be too much over the accelerated summer session, any thoughts? Or should I take Pharm and Informatics in the fall? Also, has anyone taken ----- for patho or should I take --------? Thanks all. I hope we hear soon!
  9. Hi there. I am hoping to get accepted and would love to hear how it's going for you since you must be in full swing by now? Any advice would be appreciated. I am hoping for Winter 2013. Also, in regards to the final 3 prereques, do you recommend taking them in any order? Is it too much to take Pharm with the nutrition? I was thinking of taking only Patho this summer since it's accelerated. Thoughts? Thank you.
  10. Has anyone taken the Prerequisites yet, the final 3 classes, patho, nutrition and pharm? What order are you taking them in and anyone taking them this summer? I think I am going to do Patho this summer acceleration and the other two in the fall. I'm just assuming I am getting in at some point! : ) Any feedback would be appreciated.
