  1. I was accepted to all of those places, so I'll tell ya the key for each: McMaster: - it really is 50% grades, 50% supp app. I have a friend who got in with a B- CGPA, and I got in with a B+ overall, with an A average in my final year, which they did take into consideration. They also look at the relevance to your pre-reqs to nursing. I.E. For biochemistry, one of my courses was clinical biochem, and I took a psychology class on disorders. Essentially, they look at your application holistically. Queens: I had an A- average in my last 2 years (which is what they take into consideration), and they also have a supp app. I do have a lot of EC's, which may have helped my case. Trent: Again, A- average in last 2 years. Essentially with Trent, as long as ya have over a B you're golden. U of T: Oh man. I have no idea how I got accepted there, cause I didn't finish my degree (only did 3 years then took a year off). They look at your most recent year, which was an A average for me, and they have quite the extensive supplementary app. You need at least 2 reference letters, plus 2 essay questions and you have to outline your EC's and/or any research work. I ended up submitting extra volunteer reference letters (you're allowed to do that), which may have given me an edge. But I do know that they prefer degree holders. Typically they accept in waves, with A/A- average degree-holders first, then the B+ ones. I hope this helps..feel free to PM me if you have further questions :).
  2. Hiya! What year are you in at Ry? (I was there for a short while in the fall, that's why). As for 2nd entry at York, you have to check to make sure you can even apply. Some nursing schools will not allow you to apply if you are currently in a nursing program, so you may have to drop out in order to do so. And if you do drop out, you have to make sure that whatever work you did this year won't still be considered as 'in a nursing program'. Check the York pre-reqs as well, they have quite a few. Hope that helps!
  3. I was in nursing for about a month before I took the year off, haha, so I can give you an idea. You're going to need a 2-Step TB test, and proof of Immunity/Vaccination for MMR, Tetorifice/Diptheria, Hep B, Chicken Pox..all of which needs to be signed off by your doc I believe. So, at the least, right now you could book an appointment with your doctor to ensure that you have everything on file, and, if not, you can arrange to get bloodwork done for proof of immunity. Hope that helps :)
  4. I was doing Life Sci at Mac. Courses..I had a bit of everything in there, to be honest. An extra year might have made a slight difference..but I do know that not a single non-degree holder was in last year's class (via a girl I met at a conference). So perhaps my application essay factored in? Man, that thing was tough to write though. Trying to present yourself in a good light in 250 or less is definitely not an easy task haha. You should have applied to Mac! I know at least 4 of the people who've been accepted so far only have 2 years of university.
  5. Ahhh thank you! I was meaning to send you an email :).
  6. Thanks ya!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :).
  7. I had 3 years done..think that made a difference?
  8. Thank you! I'm extremely surprised because I don't have my degree yet, but here are my stats: GPA in last 5 FCE's- 3.9 ; Volunteering: Mentor for High School Students, Rape Crisis Counselor, Feeder / Activity Volunteer at a Retirement Home, Math Tutor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel.. etc. I think what might have saved me is that I submitted extra references, and that I attended the CNSA Conference at U of T in October (I was briefly at Ryerson for nursing, before ultimately deciding to drop out for the year to straighten out some personal issues.) Other than that, I honestly didn't think I'd have a shot..since I heard not many, if any, non-degree holders get in.
  9. @jbethune, i just got my acceptance to U of T today!!!!! Who would have thought?! I'm still in disbelief.
  10. Eeeeee, Congrats!!! A relief indeed :) Add me on FB if ya want, too!
  11. Just got word this morning! wooooo, the wait is finally over. If anyone else got accepted, there's a facebook group ;D, McMaster Accelerated Nursing Class of 2014!
  12. Wasn't told the part about rejection letters, but the admissions coordinator (****) also told me we should be hearing this week. In fact, she told me we'd hear on Monday. Perhaps there's a delay in sending them out? I hope so -_-.
  13. I heard back in March. Perhaps give the nursing office a call? The advisor is quite nice :).
  14. Augh I know..they do send out rejections yeah, but not until June lol. Such a tease of a school! Like "let's give them a glimpse of hope and then crush them 2 months later". Oh, U of T. Did you get accepted anywhere else?
