best RN exp. for a PNP career
Hi, I know you really already received input on your question but I have been an RN for a few years now and only done Peds. I first worked on a general med-surg type peds floor, then in a peds clinic, and now work in a level one trauma center in an ER. I think by far I am gaining the most awesome experience in the ER. I love it, because you might have a basic clinic type patient in one room, a chronic kid in another one of your rooms, and then a patient that is really sick with an acute illness in another one of your rooms all at the same time. Its great as you really do get so much experience with so many things. I am glad though that I worked on a general floor first as a GN and did not just jump right into the pace of the ER, but we do have GN's on our unit that seem to do well. Do you mind me asking where are you going to go to your nursing program?

Migraines....Anyone else have 'em?
Hi, How are you... I have also suffered from migraines for years and like you believe that mine are stress induced. I take imitrex for acute episodes and have for years, yet just began taking Topamax last week. I am curious to see if you have had any side effects or anything I guess weird happen when taking the Topamax? (I think I have just noticed some drowsiness although it may just be working nights and going to NP school LOL) I have heard so many mixed reviews. What dosage did you begin on? My Dr. began with 50 mg once a day at HS and then wants me to progress from there. Any help or feedback on Topamax would be great thanks:)

Any Vandy Applicants out there?
Hi, I know a couple of people have said negative things about the program at Vandy. I can't speak for everyone but we have a nurse practitioner working in our ER that just graduated from Vandy and is wonderful. She said she felt very well prepared and really liked Vandy's program. I am not sure how students would do though if they had no RN experience first. This NP had quite a few years of RN experience before she graduated from NP school. Hope this helps:nurse:

Any Vandy Applicants out there?
Awesome... Thanks so much for your help. When did you apply? I applied late I didn't turn in my application until the beginning of February as I just heard about their program. How long have you been a nurse? Are you applying with an ADN or a BSN? Thanks so much for all your help:)

Vandy NP programs
Not sure when I will find out I applied at the beginning of February which was late, but they indicated that it was fine since I was an RN already. Thanks for all the advice I might think of some other questions, and I will let you know how the application process goes. We also have a NP in our ER now that graduated in 2007 from the acute pnp program so I have been talking to her also. I am excited and hope I get accepted. Thanks again for all your help:)

Vandy NP programs
Did you live at a distance when you completed the program? Do you find that you were well prepared after graduation? Did you work as an RN before you began the program? If so where and how many years? Do you think this expreriece helped you? Thanks so much for all your help... I am just awaiting my answer from admissions:)

Yes I made it to the open house... I thought it was really good. I am just waiting to hear back. Did you go to the open house? Or do you attend Vandy now?

Any Vandy Applicants out there?
Hi everyone, I applied to Vandy's PNP program, yet have not heard back yet. I received a letter about financial aid though. Has anyone else heard back from Vandy? Anyone going to the open house on March 1st? Is anyone currently in the program and can give some insight about the program? Thanks so much:)

I am also attending the open house on March 1st. Thanks so much for your time. Brie
