  1. dragonfly414, I did think about doing ADN at one point and the have been on the waiting list two times in the past. I do know that when I spoke with two CC in my area, they told me that I could not get loans at a community college level, Why? who knows.Another thing, I am halfway done with a MBA , but my job has paid for that thusfar. That's why I chose for the Accelerated BSN program so that it is pretty quick to successfully get into the work field. I am quite sure that I will have to work part time a little bit, but I will do so. Just hoping that something comes along for my husband so that I don't have to stress too bad. I will definitely consider the ASN program though. I am really trying to get my foot in the door. If only I had hit the mega millions yesterday, I would be great. Wow, I didn't know that the pay is the same regardless of what type of degree a person has. That is very informative. I may certainly have to go with the cheapest route to start with. Thank you for the insight :-)
  2. Dragonfly414, Thank you so so very much for the information. Yes, if I take an ABSN program, depending on the school, I may have to take the GRE since I already have a Bachelors Degree. Duke requires the GRE and Emory. Not sure of any others, but I know that UNC does not require the GRE. I will certainly apply for the grants and loans. Thank you.
  3. That meant a lot. My husband is very supportive about my dreams to be a nurse. I have an ok job with benefits, but if I quit we would lose the benefits, but I can always sub at my old job where I have worked for 10 years. My husband was laid off in November and have been collecting unemployment and looking for work as a welder so it is hard right now. We have talked and tried to figure out how we would make it financially with three children and many bills. His concern is that I may not be able to get as many shifts that would pay for bills or that it may take him longer to get a job. My concern is that if I miss my chance on my dream and now I am more focused than ever, especially since my mom passed in December, I feel more motivated to fulfill my dream as she would want me to do so. I pray and pray for guidance on what to do. I only have to take a few prereqs in order to apply for nursing programs and take the GRE. My heart and stress levels are telling me to put in a 2 weeks and step out in faith because everything will work out with patience, but my pockets tell me otherwise. Any help on what to do would be awesome? Thanks. PS. Im not sure as to how to start a thread. Thanks
  4. I say go for the highest achievement. Since you already sent your deposit. Follow your heart for NP.
  5. Ally1451, Congrats!!! Those are both huge accomplishments. How long did you have to wait to get into the program?
  6. From what I have researched, it is important to have at least 1 year in ICU experience, however it would depend on the school that you want to attend for CRNA. That is a great field. I am motivated to go that way also as soon as I get into Nursing School. Go for it. CRNA is where it is at
  7. Congrats!!!! Im taking Micro this summer
  8. smartnurse1982, I understand exactly what you are saying. How long have you been in nursing? However, it is certainly up to the individual if they want to pursue or not. I have an IT degree and graduated in 2010, but still have not landed an IT job yet. The job market is rough everywhere and it can get tougher, but sometime a person will have to crawl before they are able to walk. I know in my case, it is going to be a sacrifice in order for me to go to Nursing school, but I feel that it will be worth it, especially when my children get older and will need money to get into a great college.
  9. Congrats!!! Im so glad that I have my mind made up to get into nursing. That is so awesome to be in the PHN field Anyone knowledgeable of scholarships, grants, loans for nursing in general?
  10. I am not into bashing others, but looking into learning more about the field that I have chosen to get into. @peterbrasco, I agree that there are some people that are truly discouraging when someone is trying to do something positive. I had an instructor that was very discouraging as to why I did not pursue nursing 6 years ago. I procrastinated and prayed about it, but I realized my goal and destiny in life when my mom was very sick last year and passed away before Christmas. I realize that I may not be able to help everyone in the world, but the people that I will be able to help will be an honor. I have a pretty good job that has no flexibility now, but I am going to put in a notice in order to go to school full time and work part time at my other job. Sometimes life events happen in a negative manner in order to bring a positive cause. I am glad that there is a forum here to help current and prospective people who are or looking to go into the nursing field.
  11. Absolutely. You could certainly tell them that it depends on the area in which they are looking into. You can also tell them that they may not get exactly what they want, but practice makes perfect and as long as they gain the experience, this is a great field to get into and advance.
  12. congrats. Is this program online or at campus?
