Sigma Theta Tau International membership
This is not for an assignment. I am scheduled to graduate with BSN in December. My induction, which I'm not going because its out of state, is in November. I am looking for a job now and currently updating my resume to send out for a new job. I want my affiliation with Sigma Theta Tau on my resume. I don't want to wait till November to receive my "number". Like I said, my credit card payment is already processed for my membership. Would I possibly call them or call my chapter to get me the number? I don't think I care for "certificate"...

Sigma Theta Tau International membership
Does Sigma Theta Tau International give membership numbers to its members? How else do they confirm who is member? I'm trying to list affiliation with Sigma Theta Tau International on my resume, but do I need membership number and also what about chapter? Do I need to list Phi Pi? I don't know a thing about Greek system so I don't know the difference between Phi Pi from other pies. Care to explain? Thanks.

Sigma Theta Tau International membership
So I just got invited and joined Sigma Theta Tau International. I don't get what the difference is for each chapters. I got invitation from Phi Pi Chapter from Chamberlain College of Nursing. I hate fraternity/sorority system so I don't really know what these chapters and stuff mean. Anyone care to explain? I was once invited to join something similar when I was taking prereqs for nursing school in community college, but I decided I didn't need that. Well, since I'm still struggling to find a job in hospital, I figured BSN and Sigma Theta Tau International might be a nice addition to my resume. How do I put this info in my resume? Do I just state I'm a member of Sigma Theta Tau International? Or does Sigma Theta Tau International offer membership number so I need to wait to get that info before I add this to my resume? Thanks

Unemployed & inexperienced New RNs. Vent it out!
Bump. I was determined to find a job, but after couple of months of sending electronic applications and getting automated rejection emails, which is better than not getting any emails back, I need to vent some things before I go back to school (online RN-BSN) and continue with my job search. How can hospitals claim they are "teaching hospitals" when they don't hire new RNs? They talk about the cost of hiring new RNs for training, but they are happy to pay premium for RNs from travel agencies. And I can only imagine what the work environment is like to work with a travel nurse who is not commited to work within the team because they can just leave and pick up another assignment elsewhere. Or a travel nurse going above and beyond when they know the end date of their assignment. It is much better to invest in a new employee than rotating the temp workers. Don't they know that? And what is up with "magnet" hospitals"? That is like an art gallery advertising "we only display art from artists with Bachelor's degree in art", or imagine a band claiming all of their members hold Bachelor's in music degree. How about a book store that only carries a book written by authors with Bachelor's in literature or english? Everyone knows these claims are so stupid, we question the institution who makes these claims. So why hospitals think they get benefit from such a claim? I think it came from nurses with BSN felt threatened by nurses with ADN when competing for power, policy, or position. My Bachelor's in business, life long experience, and ADN training will make me a better new grad nurse than most 20yr old new grads nurse with BSN.

Expungement and Job Applications
I will state NO on application. Its your legal right to do so according to the law. If you get denied of your job position, ask HR or manager why you did not get picked and if they brought up this expunged/vacated charge as a reason, take them to the court as they legally can not do that. Judge will not like them because it's the judge who says you can legally say no on job application so you will win the case and get some money. Not only does that help you financially, but it will teach hospitals to not to do that anymore for any future candidates. Good luck.

Got my license in WA with simple possession of marijuana
So my previous post had some info on it, but I want to sum it up so others can search this topic. I got charged with simple possession of weed and pipe (2 separate charge) 5 years ago. Possession of pipe got dismissed and possession of pot got amended to "criminal attempt" of possession. I paid $250 for it and the case got closed with "bail forfeiture", which is just paying fine and the case is closed without actual guilt. 3 yrs later, I had this bail forfeiture vacated. Washington State Patrol background check doesn't show anything, but some private background company dugged it up. I was never been arrested for this nor from years and years ago with driving with suspended license which also was dismissed. Anyway, I felt like I didn't have to disclose anything, but I did for the DOH application. I said "yes" to question 5 and some of the questions on 6 which asked me if court ever found me with breaking drug law. However, only thing I disclosed was criminal attempt of possession charge and none of the dismissed charges. In the letter, all I said was on such and such date, I was had bail forfeiture finding on criminal attempt of possession and on such and such date, it was vacated. Also one sentense about how it will not ever happen again. I got my ATT and took NCLEX and now the DOH website shows my license active. No hassel what so ever with no restriction. Since I can legally state I never had any charges on employment purposes, I don't plan on disclosing anything when I apply for jobs. Well, hopefully this will give some hopes to those who are reading my post with their own legal issues.

Is getting ATT mean I'm clear of background check?
So I just got an ATT from PearsonVUE for my NCLEX today. Is that mean WA DOH approved my backgroundcheck? Or can DOH hold my license even if/when I pass my NCLEX? For those that had to answer YES to some of those background check questions on the application, please let me know how this process works. Either way, I guess now my next step is to start studying for my NCLEX and try to remember all that stuff I learned in school...

Legal problem + advice on WA DOH
I would seriously consider hiring a lawyer. Either way, I would make sure your record is expunged before the hearing is scheduled. Your concern about what kind of record does WA DOH keep is also my concern as well. Since I'm not 100% sure if they will find my charges (none of them are conviction, nor guilty plea) from WSP background check, I'm very hesitent of disclosing it volunteerly since that record will be kept by WA DOH forever... Oh well, I have to take chance either way and I rather take chance by disclosing it rather not disclosing. Wish me luck.

What background check company does WA state use?
Thank you Psychtrish39 for acknowledging WA DOH is no help. When I called, all they said was if you have anything, submit the paperwork and let us decided. I should be able to talk to (or have my lawyer talk to) a lawyer who wrote the application question so I can clarify what they mean by "similar plea" and "found to have" Why can they list all the plea deals instead of saying "similar" and use words like convicted or charged instead of "found to have" I know WSP background check does not show any matches to my name. Only ones consistantly digging up the dirt and not removing it even though the carges are vacated and expunged are the private back ground check company my nursing school used and few other private ones. Oh well, like others suggested, I have decided to disclose every charges whether it was dropped, amended, or closed without actual judgement (bail forfeiture). I will keep you updated.

What background check company does WA state use?
I'm graduating soon and looking to take my NCLEX. The application has few questions about criminal background stuff... So here are some of my info: 1. I got stopped for a traffic ticket and got charged for possession of marijuana and parapheneria. 2. Possession of marijuana was amended to criminal attempt, which I opted for bail forfeture and paid fine. No guilty plea or not guilty... and years later, I got it vacated and record expunged. And possession of parapheneria was dropped. 3. background company still finds all 3 charges: original charge that was amended, charge that was vacated and expunged, and dismissed charges. 4. I applied for CNA license in WA and in that application, I said NO to all questions regarding criminial background, and I got my license no problem. My lawyer worked hard to get rid of my record to even show up, so I can honesty say no to those applicatino questions, but the record won't go away. I asked them to write a letter to 2 background check companies to see if they can remove them. I can't believe I'm getting punished for charges I'm not found guilty of! Anyway, here are 3 questions I want to ask. 1. Does anyone know which background check company WA uses? 2. Should I answer yes to questions like "have I ever entered a similar plea"? or "violated any drug law"? or 3. Should I answer "no" like I did with CNA license and expect my RN license to go through like CNA license?
