  1. HOW COULD YOU NOT HAVE MORE RESPECT FOR THE STATE BOARD THAN THAT? I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU IN A ROOM WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T PASSED THE BOARD EXAM AND BRAG ABOUT HOW EASY IT WAS. I NEVER SAID THAT THE STATE BOARD IS WHAT MAKES A GOOD NURSE, SO DON'T PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH. YOUR RIGHT, THEY SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE A STATE BOARD EXAM, THEY SHOULD JUST LET ANYONE BE A NURSE, GET REAL. OH YEAH, AND I LOVE THE ONE ABOUT HOW ANYONE COULD ANSWER THOSE BASIC QUESTIONS, LIKE THE TRASH MAN, SACKER, OR EVEN MY DOG. YOUR HEAD IS OBVIOUSLY SWOLLEN. THE STATE BOARD EXAM IS MORE THAN HOW WELL YOU CAN STUDY THE NCLEX BOOK, BUT SINCE YOU WERE BORN A NURSE, I WOULDN'T EXPECT YOU TO UNDERSTAND.

  5. HELLO, WELL, I WILL JUST LET YOU IN ON MY EXPERIENCE WORKING AT A SMALL HOSPITAL. I HATED IT. MY REASONS ARE PROBABLY DUE TO BEING A BRAND NEW NURSE. IT WAS MY FIRST JOB, AND I WAS 25 YEARS OLD. MY ROLE WAS CHARGE NURSE, AND A LOT OF THE STAFF RESENTED ME. THEY WERE EXTREMELY CLICKISH, AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO DISCIPLINE. MY DON WOULD NOT DISCIPLINE ANYONE BECAUSE HE COULDN'T GET ANYONE TO TAKE THEIR PLACE. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME BECAUSE I WAS CALLED TO HELP OUT IN ER DURING TRAUMAS AND CODES AND IF SOMETHING HAPPENED ON THE FLOOR, I HAD TO THINK FAST. AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS OR SO THE STAFF STARTED TO BECOME A LITTLE MORE FRIENDLY, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT THEY REALLY EVER ACCEPTED ME. I HAVE A HARD TIME BELIEVING THAT ALL OR EVEN MOST RURAL HOSPITALS ARE LIKE THIS. I JUST THINK THIS ONE IS IN BAD SHAPE. I HAVE NOW ACCEPTED A NEW JOB ABOUT 90 MILES ROUNDTRIP AND I AM VERY EXCITED. I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I GAINED A TON OF EXPERIENCE AT THIS LITTLE HOSPITAL, BUT IT WAS TOO STRESSFUL FOR A BRAND NEW NURSE TO WALK INTO. IT WILL NEVER HURT YOU TO JUST TRY IT OUT. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR DECISION. I KNOW THAT THIS IS A NEGATIVE REPLY, BUT IT IS MY EXPERIENCE AND I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE IT WITH YOU.
  6. HI! I have just accepted a prn night shift position 7p-7a. I have a 4 year old and a 3 month old. I worked days before my baby was born so this will be my first time to work nights. I am not sure how days can be much better for me at this point, because we don't get to sleep around here until 11pm and i get up about 2 times a night on average. It will take me at least an hour to get to work,so if i worked days, i would have to get up at the latest 4:15 am. I am not moving too well in the mornings these days. Since i have accepted the night shift position, my husband said that he would give it a try, since he is the one who would have to get up with the baby. They will pay me 28 dollars per hour and i plan on working only 2 nights per week. Is there anyone out there that has done this before? If so, how did it work out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am curious to see if i can handle it.
  7. Hey there, Well, first of all, i would like to say that for an ADN program, it takes longer than 2 years. Try 3 years. YOu have to take several prerequisites before even being considered for the program. The bottom line is this, in my opinion, we all take the same state board exam. I totally believe in furthering one's education, however, i do believe that as a nurse, one will learn most on the job. I am an ADN graduate, and i have met some of the finest LVN's out in the field. They are successful, because of their experiences in the field. I haven't heard of an easy Nursing curriculum yet, Nursing school is hard No matter what program you are in. OUr class started with 65 and we graduated 25. All programs deserve respect, and you need to do what your heart desires. Most adn's probably wish that they could have attained their BSN, and most want to someday achieve that, but a lot of us do what is more convenient at the time. If you can attain your BSN without any problems, i would go for it. good luck.

  10. Hello, i was seriously considering agency nursing. I am tired of hospital politics, and i would like to get paid better for what i do. I am a RN with 1.5 years experience as a charge nurse in a rural hosp. Please tell me what your experiences have been, positive, as well as negative. I am a quick learner, and i am not afraid of new challenges. your response would be greatly appreciated. Also, which agency's do you recommend? What are some good questions to ask during an interview regarding agency work? Thanks in advance for your time. Martrn

  12. I HAVE WORKED MED SURG FOR1.5 YEARS, AND IT SUCKS.HOWEVER, I HAVE LEARNED MORE THAN I EVER THOUGHT I WOULD. I GRADUATED IN 99 AND WAS THROWN IN AS A CHARGE NURSE IN MED SURG. IT HAS GIVEN ME THE CONFIDENCE THAT I NEED TO MOVE ON. MY NEXT MOVE IS GONNA BE POSTPARTUM. I HAVE HEARD ONLY GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS AREA. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. NO MATTER WHERE YOU START, YOU ARE GONNA BE NERVOUS, BUT THAT IS NORMAL. JUST DO YOUR BEST AND REMEMBER WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED.
