Core Curriculm for the nursing care of children and their families (Jannetti Publications) and Pediatric Nursing (lippincott) also if you go online you can order from the Certified Pediatric Nurse (PNCB)Website a practice test booklet for $75.00. I have had my certification for 7yrs and have assisted over 12 people in attaining their certification successfully using these 3 materials.

RSV Precautions
At our facility we use contact meaning gown, gloves, and mask if your are directly working with the patient(suctioning). I know the CDC had been looking into going back to droplet precautions due to the fact that it may live on objects for 6-8 hours. Our infection control department is also investigating this.

Extremely interested in becoming pediatric nurse but need more info
laura, You have lot's of ?'s to answer. Let's see. First as you go through nursing school you can decide what area you want to specialize in. You get many rotations and a little taste of everything to see what you might like. Agter that you can specialize in Pediatric's many people change their minds. I have always wanted to be a pediatric nurse and school confirmed it for me. Things that are hard.....not all are saved but the many live you touch are worth it. Also you might check with local hospitals they may provide share days to allow you to see what nursing is about. Lot's of luck to you! I hope this helps. Shannon

taking temperatures?
Our guidlines at WVU children's hospital are for all under two must have a rectal temp unless they are neutropenic or an order must be obtain not to. I.e. bowel issues. We also did a study on tympanic themometers and they were shown to not be accurate in children under 1 yr due to anatomyand too much room for error. Shannon
