Nursing School
You are at a sometimes difficult milestone in you life right now, and these are perfectly normal feelings. Most people are nervous/excited/scared all at the same time when entering a new phase in their life. That being said, Nursing School is really what you make of it. If learning about the sciences and the human body interest you, you're likely to perform better in these classes. If you are motivated and have a strong desire to become a nurse, most likely, you'll do well. I graduated HS in 1998 with an AP(advanced placement) Diploma, went back to school in 2002 and got my ADN in 2004. My son was born 6-11-03. It takes an incredible amount of dedication to be a mother and go to school because--it is NOT easy.

Patient assignments during pregnancy
I can't understand what this nurse's problem is. I agree with the other posters on this--if she can't do her job she should take an FMLA leave. Everyone should be careful to use universal precautions on all patients pregnant or not...I hope this behavior doesn't continue after the baby is born with "I can't take that pt. b/c I have a baby at home..ect. By the way I was pregnant and delivered my baby while I was in school with no special accommodations (other than an inc. amount of potty breaks -esp. in that last month LOL). I was back at clinical/ school in less than a week, so it can be done.

RN Functions
In the ER where I work, we have protocols in place that are signed by the EMS Director, an MD. So, technically, our protocols for certain symptoms are standing orders and we are expected to perform them.

NCLEX - disaster questions
Just remember, in a disaster, the pts. that are practically dead, (fixed and dilated pupils, etc.) you should not waste time on and are not a priority, regardless of age.
