#1 Your instructor should have been with you if you were pushing any kind of medication. #2 If in the future you need to push any kind of a med because of what a machine says, check it again with the skills you have learned. #3 I don't believe you can be kicked out of nursing school. It is the instructor who is responsible for what the students are giving. Whether it is a po, rectal, IV and especially an IV push. She should have checked herself, after all you are still in the learning process. Sorry you had to learn this the hard way.

I will be going into a job interview this week, thanks for the tips. I like to think of myself as a professional and go to interviews educated and looking professional. I was fired from my last job, how do I handle that part of the interview?

If there is any way possible get out, transfer to another floor. I have been in your shoes. I have come to believe with all my heart that most (not all) nurses are just plain MEAN!!! For those of us who are not in a nursing clic, and just want to go to work do our jobs and go home are picked apart, put down and etc.... If you do not have a nursing manager who has your back, your screwed. If that is the case you have to either live with it or get out. No that is not fair. You can try going up the chain of command, but that sometimes works against you, especially if the nurses are making things up about you. They can say anything they want and you will continue to go to work hating it and your peers, which will affect your job performance. Is it OK? NO!!!!! But it will get even worse and eventually you will resign or get fired. That sounds harsh, and not fair. I went through the same thing. I tried just being nice, ignore them and just do my job, going to their superior, bringing in "goodies", documenting everything nothing worked. If they are out to get you they will. I got fired, and wish I had just resigned. Stay strong. Nurses can be the worst people to work with. Some are very supportive. Seek them out. Women in general who work together are mean and in clic's. Good luck, I wish you well. It is never nice to be accused of something you did not do. I wish I had never gone into nursing. But that is my education and thats what I do.

HELP PLEASE. The hospital where I worked said I violated HIPPA several times and even reported it to the state board of nursing. I was the RN on staff on the evening shift working with one other person (not a nurse) and 16 patients. Did I violate HIPPA? I worked in a Rehab (drug) Hospital/unit. 1. I had a patient say he/she was going to kill someone (named a specific person). This is a duty to warn. Just to make sure I called the psych unit and discussed this with an RN there. She agreed it was a duty to warn. Just to make sure I called the nursing supervisor (actually 2 of them as it was a change in shift) both said it was a duty to warn. So I did. I called the police station and reported it. My boss was so mad she said I violated HIPPA and wrote me up. 2. I had a new patient arrive who I had not admitted yet. He/she was wearing a trench coat and had a bag with him/her. I did not have a chance to search his/her belongings yet. She/he sat on the floor and was crying out loud, "someone please shoot me, I just want someone to shoot me in the head". Still working with only one other person on the unit (not a nurse), I called the nursing supervisor for help, as he/she needed to go to the ER. The hospital nursing supervisor sent two police officers to the unit and they took he/she to the ER. My boss said I again violated HIPPA, because I allowed police officers on a locked unit. 3. I was admitting a patient, and wrote "Jack" instead of "Jill" (first name only) on a drug screen cup. I gave the cup to the new patient "Jill" with "Jack's" name on it. "Jill" brings the urine cup back and gives it to the secretary and said "I don't know who "Jack" is but I don't want "him" to get in trouble with my dirty urine". I was fired for that "violation". The unit director and the secretary are very good friends . The secretary use to kick my door, throw charts at me and even threatened me while I worked there for two years.I reported this however nothing was ever done. I fretted when I walked into work, about what "I did wrong yesterday". I was dedicated and often worked past my shift until 2 or 3 in the morning, (was a salaried employee) because of the heavy workload, and no night shift nurse to report off to. I needed the job so I stayed. Unemployement was given because the charges were unfounded. The state board of nursing also said the charges would not be made public as it was unfounded, but in the future it would require disiplinary actions. Meanwhile, I cannot get a job. No one wants me. I do not make it known I was fired when interviewing, nor do I lie, I just tell them "It was time for a change". I am so discouraged with nursing, I am an "older nurse" and no one wants me. I am like a peice of trash thrown out of nursing. Plenty of apps and interviews, without a job. I feel like giving up.

Gee, I am in the same position. I can't get hired anywhere. No-one wants me, and it is very discouraging.

Any advice for RN who will be interviewing for an allergy RN position? Any suggestions on what I should know about allergy nursing while interviewing?

I'am an RN who has a job interview in an allergy office. It has been difficult to find a job where I live. Are there any allergy nurses that can give me advice before I go for the interview as far as what I need to learn to better interview. I really want this job. Thanks.
