Work while in school for NP?? Possible??
you take a specialty track in school, but the state (of Texas anyway) only recognizes that specialty if you pass the specialty certification exam :) If you want additional specialties, then you go back for more school and take more cert exams

Digital Recorders for class! Help me pick one.
If only kkx81 would respond as to what they are using to get it to type I would then believe he/she isn't bluffing. If there was any easy way to do this, I would have figured it out! The speech to text ware available to most of us does not do medical terminology well, nor does it understand strange voices such as those on a recorder. Oh....you'll get things typed alright, but not with any accuracy!

TWU Admission Requirements
Hey now - Dallas has Parkland, UT Southwestern, OT & PT Schools, and whole host of other places! Houston is not on the exclusive list ya know! We may not have MD Anderson, but there are PLENTY of great clinical sites in Dallas!

Digital Recorders for class! Help me pick one.
What software are you using to make it type your notes? I havnt been able to successfully do this with any level of accuracy.

Digital Recorders for class! Help me pick one.
You cant get dragon to type your notes unless you can take dragon in on your laptop and have your prof do a 15 min training session with the software - and even then - when you take into account all the noise and stuff - it just doesnt work well. Dragon Naturally speaking cost me about 49 bucks - it good, but it doesnt do medical terms realy well - for that you have to add on a 600.00 package LOL. YOU can record and make the software listen and type YOUR voice....the profs voice would have to be set up ander another profile. It works fine for letting me talk instead of type so I can read passages from books and stuff or quote from articles. I don't use it as much as I use EndNote though - that program is my right arm! I didnt find out about it until 2 years ago - and I had a prof tell me there was no way to get through grad school without it. Some schools even require you to use it, my school acts like they have never heard of it! If you get it, I have a couple of tips to share on APA - so PM me if you want that info.

Experiences w/ Reason Medical or Allheart?
I have ordered multiple items from allheart - including a very expensive diagnostic set, uniforms, shoes, a littman.... Never a problem with any order over the years, great customer service - and the prices on their Welch-Allyn even beat the WA manufacturers rep that visited us at school!! I dont know of too many places who still do free return shipping - aside from some clothing outfits. Just be sure that what you order is actually what you want as with any online store.

Traumatized by nursing - advice needed
AT every interview I have ever been to they have GIVEN you a calculator to do the test!!!!!!!!! In a nursing unit you are EXPECTED, and need, to keep a calculator in your pocket!

Traumatized by nursing - advice needed
You mentioned an interest in teaching - what a VALUABLE and INSIGHTFUL experience for you as you move forward to teach new nurses in the future. It stinks you had to go through it the way you did - similar things happened to me in my first two jobs right out of school - the third one however was a charm! (and had a 3 month orientation which helped tremendously) So many nursing professors are so far removed from the whole concept of eating the young - I have had a couple tell me they didn't believe the whole thing really existed! You will be an invaluable resource to your future students!

Residency programs for NP graduates?
That and most NP programs require 2 years of FULLTIME nursing experience in order to be considered for admission. Math: 36 hours a week x 52 weeks a year x 2 years = 3744 clinical hours Most PA's actually have some background such as EMT or medic or other experience, however the programs were designed to have more clinical within them exactly for the reason you cite - we start with a known clinical background, they do not. This isn't a bad thing - it's just different.

fnp to er
UT Arlington in the Dallas/Fort Worth area also has an ENP program specific to ER.
-
Adn To Msn
Not ALL of them are actually listed - UT Arlington doesn't appear in several places for instance, and I suspect a few others. For the lastest list, check with the BNE in your state.

Patient assignments during pregnancy
The funny thing - you KNOW these patients have these infections!! This is an opportunity to protect yourself! The patients who dont have them - might have something and you just dont know it yet - to me the risk there is far greater. We don't deliberately assign PG nurses the CMV babies, BUT we treat every baby as though he has CMV - make sense? Universal Precautions and then some - if you are pregnant - you can always elect to wear above and beyond what is required of you in terms of protective gear.
