  1. Hi I'm pretty new to the forum I just noticed this discussion and I had to comment. At my previous job (fast food for many years) It finally got to where no one would even try to call me in, but now I am a senior BSN student (graduate in December ) and I am currently working in a local ER as a tech. and they try to call me all the time. I have a hard time saying no mainly because I am scheduled to start an internship soon, and my senior practicum next semester is in the same ER. I guess i'm worried i'll anger the management if I don't come in since I'm gonna be there for the next few months. I have a very full plate so to speak and most of the time when I am called I do have previous obligations (family owned business). I only have a few more weeks as a tech and then I will start the internship. I will be working 6 12's and off 8 days set schedule. At first I was a bit concerned but I think it should work out because I can continue taking care of the family business during the 8 off days. The six days on are split so that it will not be overtime but I am not supposed to be allowed to do overtime during this program. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how that goes. I do not mind when people try to call me in, but it does irritate me when the person expects an explanation as to why you can't work. If this were my previous job I would probably be more candid when asked for an explanation or reason why I can't come in. I believe whether you work 10hrs a week or 60 no one should be asked why they can't come in. If I ever worked at a facility where this came up at eval time or had any effect on pay I would not stay there very long. It's my day off and I am not obligated to be there, I do not owe you an explanation.
  2. Do not drag race your high school buddy and crash into the police chiefs house at 0200. do not let your girlfriend who has braces perform oral sex on you in the backseat of an extended cab truck with 3 friends in the front. You will become "attached" and require a triage nurse to wheel you inn in a wheelchair while the girl walks backward stooped over covered with a sheet while her head is in your lap. Do not keep those small bottles of shampoo and conditioner from the hotel on the side of the bathtub, when you slip in the shower they 3 of them will just slip right on in.Perfume bottles will go into the rectum but upon removal the diamond shape decorative lid stays inside. when your headlight fuse blows do not replace it with a loaded .22 caliber shell the electricity will discharge the round and it may very well enter the scrotum. Do not stick a beeper up your butt and then get mad at the surgeon when he asks you for the number so he can page you. Do not call the DR office saying that your husband's girlfriend has Trich, and I was just wondering if the antibiotics she was prescribed will work for me also.
  3. Your right Im just worried I may not feel comfortable with only 700 hrs in the role of a practitioner. Plus I would love to work with a cardiology group seeing patients inpatient/outpatient an first assist during surgery if possible. Seems like most positions like this go to the PA's but i guess i could be wrong.
  4. I am sure they would. I'm talking about specific areas for instance the ACNP programs will allow you to specialize in many areas: General surgery, ER/Trauma, neurology/neurosurgery, cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery I just think it may be better to go the FNP route then maybe do some post draduate rotations in other areas if you wanted to specialize further.
  5. I am planning on going back to school for my MSN/ACNP or to a PA program. I am very disappointed in the limited amount of clinical hours offered in the NP programs 700 or less as compared to the PA programs 2000 or more. Since I already have my BSN I would like to stick with the nursing education . My question is are there any post graduate NP "residency" programs available for more specialized clinical training? Any help would be appreciated.
