Ethical dilemma's nurses face
Thank you all so much for all of these great suggestions! Now to pick just one! Cerriwen, I actually have some very dear friends who had their little boy at 23 weeks. He is now a very happy 4 year old. He does have some delays, and has just barely started walking on his own, but they are so thankful for him and would not rather that he had been let go.

Ethical dilemma's nurses face
Hey all, I am hoping you can help me. I am in the BSN program here where I live and my partner and I have to do an ethical writing assignment. We need to write about a legal/ethical conflict that NURSES would deal with directly. The problem is I have not had the opportunity to work out side of nursing school as a nurse yet and he has very little experience. I am hoping that perhaps some of you can offer some suggestions from some legal/ethical conflicts you might have run into in your nursing career. If you would be willing to help I would sure appreciate it. Thank you so much! Rain

Can I vent? Just a little... you can vent too if you want, I won't tell...
I have the same problem. I am looking at ND, they need nurses with all the influx of people with the oil boom. opportunity for $22/hr, and $15,000 in sign on and moving bonuses, great benefits, etc. Good Luck!

Question about a bad trend I have heard about....
Thanks for your responses! I can see ways in which it can be beneficial and also ways it can be bad, but the instances my aunt was talking about was a couple years before they could get hired, after RN school. I can't imagine many people can work for free that long, especially if they have student loans to pay off!

Question about a bad trend I have heard about....
I have heard that there is a trend in nursing (especially in California) to not hire new grads or those without experience but to hire them as an "intern" and not pay them for a certain amount of time, until they have experience and then possibly offer them a job. I do not know if this is true or not, i have heard about it third party from my mom who supposedly heard this from my Aunt who live in the San Fran area. I am just curious if this is something that is happening and becoming more prevalent. So here is my question, do any of you know about anything like this happening? Have any of you dealt with this or had to go through a process like this? I would like to hear what your experiences are regarding this. I had originally planned to be a med. transcriptionist from home and then put myself through nursing school and that did not happen because of this very thing and am afraid to here it may be occurring in nursing as well.

Failed NCLEX 1st time in 75 questions, PASSED in 75 questions the second time!!
I just have to say, I was informed when I took NCLEX LPN that brain dumping (writing everything down you remember at the beginning of the test) is a SERIOUS no-no and was grounds for immediate ending of the test and being escorted out. I don't know if that is just Utah, but perhaps something that should be noted! Other then that, THANKS for the great advice! I am up for my first try here soon and am trying not to freak! Rain

Socializing after work in your scrubs
I am in my last year of RN school and my Med/Surg instructor last semester made a GREAT point about this... even tho we are "only" stopping for a loaf of bread or gallon of milk in our scrubs we are dragging into the community all those awful microbes from work like MRSA, and other nosocomials.... I thought that was a great point and that is enough to make me change my shoes and clothes before heading home even (my kids don't need that crud!). So I have to agree with the yuck factor. I don't know the details but she mentioned that is part of the reason behind "community acquired" MRSA.

Heart Stop Beating - man lives without heart
This is fascinating to me, my nursing instructor keeps telling us that we will see so many advancements, and here is one! AMAZING. I wonder how these will work in the long term, I can't wait to see. Although I am curious about one thing, one RN commented about how it would be hard to get ABG's, perhaps being so new I am missing something, why would this complicate obtaining ABG's?? Thanks! Again, LOVE to see neat things like this coming along! Hallelujah for the free market system that allows for this type of advancement, I sure hope that "OBAMACARE" doesn't destroy our ability to keep making these advancements!
