  1. I PASSED!! I only had 75 questions too! Just found out! whoo! hoo! Goodluck to everyone yet to take it!
  2. 1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75 2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? ERI review course, Kaplan review course (online as well) Saunders, NCLEX RN made incredibly easy, Exam Cram RN, NCSBN learning extension 3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? Hesi first 2 semester, ERI last three semesters 4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? STILL WAITING!! 5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? Numb. Don't know if I passed or failed. 6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yes
  3. I don't know what takes them so long to post the scores. This is pure torture! I tried to go to sleep because I have been working on four hours a sleep a night for the past three nights due to studying! The crazy thing is I CAN'T SLEEP! Goodluck Mo07, I'm sure you will be posting that you passed tomorrow!!
  4. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am trying to hold it together! I mean, I had prioritization, the 'who would you see first', some meds, some delegation. I had one calculation question, the last one, and it was messed up. I got it wrong. argghhh!
  5. I have read in several places that if you get the last question wrong that you fail the NCLEX, is this true? I took it today and it shut off at 75 question and I am certain that I answered the last question wrong. I am FREAKING OUT!
  6. I went to a nursing supply shop and bought shoes and they were well worth the money. I don't know if canvas will work because think about what can happen to them...don't want to gross anyone out, but urine, feces, vomit, blood can potentially get on them. You need something you can wipe off or wash off easily. Also, shoes can habor germs you encounter in the hospital so you probably want a dedicated pair of shoes for clinicals. Thanks for the congrats! You all will be graduating before you know it! :w00t:
  7. You are correct. All you need to play the podcast lectures is iTunes which is a program you download onto your computer. I can't really remember when we received all of the orientation information, but our scrubs are navy blue. We had to wear white shoes and I would suggest buying comfortable ones to wear! I only ever really used my penlight and stethoscope when assessing patients, all of the other nursy supplies are still sitting where I put them first semester. The class of 2007 graduated this past Friday, which I was a part of! :balloons: Good luck to you all and feel free to PM me if you have questions.
  8. Every teacher uses PowerPoint and the presentations are accessible through Blackboard. You can print them out prior to class and write on the hard copy or access them through Blackboard. Typically I would go to class a few minutes early, hook up my PC to the internet, download the powerpoint and take notes directly in it. I would then transfer the powerpoint to Word because then you have the slides right beside the notes you have taken. Some professors record their lectures and you have access to them after class for review. I usually reviewed the lectures again in order to fill in any notes I might have missed. This last semester for High Acuity our professor video tapes her lectures and also makes them available on Podcast, which is great. I listen to lectures while I am driving in the madness that is Houston traffic.
  9. Nope. Never used a PDA at all. I don't really know of anyone in the class who used one. The only reason I can think to use a PDA would be to reference drugs during clinicals and the drug book is adequate for that. My laptop was a lifesaver. I can type faster than I can write, so I was able to take better more complete notes using the laptop. Also, the whole school has wireless web.
  10. I take my laptop to every class. It is easier for me to take notes in the powerpoint presentations and then transfer the lectures to word and print out three slides per page. I also found it easier to transfer recorded lectures onto my laptop that way. I graduate in 10 DAYS!! Just took the exit exam today! Phew...that is over! Good luck to you all!
  11. 1. You will not be the "oldest" one in the group! Our class has a mixture of various ages, I would say anywhere from 19 through early to mid 50's. Quite a few people in the class are making nursing their second career. 2. UTHSC-Houston does not have an official mascot like some of the other campuses (ex: UT in San Antonio's mascot is a Roadrunner) so we consider ourselves to be Longhorns!
  12. Congrats to all of you! I am graduating in 33 days from UT! If you all ever need any advice please feel free to message me. Hook 'em horns!
  13. the rome mnemonic has always been helpful to me: r respiratory o opposite ph up pco2 down = alkalosis ph down pco2 up = acidosis m metabolic e equal ph up hco2 up = alkalosis ph down hcos down = acidosis
  14. Yes, it is the lot behind Sam's Club. The train stops right by the UT tower, across from the bus station. The walk to school is about a block, you walk behind the new MD Anderson building. There is parking for $8 a day very near the school, brown lot I think. You can take the shuttle from the parking lot to school.
  15. Hi Sunkiss. I think the only supplies I have ever used (and I am going into my fourth semester) is my stethoscope and my pen light. There is a place on Fannin called Major Books, you can find almost anything you will need there. May I also recommend buying the Saunders comprehensive review for NCLEX-RN exam, I use the Saunders book to study for tests ALL THE TIME. I park at the two dollar lot that use to be across from Astro World (now demolished) and ride the Metro train in. I'm not sure if a Metro pass will be available for purchase this year, but the pass enables you to ride the rail (or bus) for free. Goodluck!
