  1. I clearly remember when all the IV carts were updated and having one of the nurses explain the rationale as stated above--however, I must say you put this together nicely. Thank you and have a great weekend....lisa
  2. The sterile tegaderm first is exactly the way I was taught and the way I continue to practice as long as the supplies are available. An IV prep in a code would not be a number 1 priority obviously. Priorities are forever changing as do a pt's condition. Obviously If I was intubating my partner would be on the cardiac and IV end. If I'm doing the IV? Everyone gets a prep. It's an efficient "quickie" prep that most wouldn't notice... I have never seen any of the nurses in the trauma, or cardiac room NOT prep a site. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Has anyone here ever lost a family member, child/infant to sepsis? Just curious.
  3. I can honestly say that I never did not prep a site, whether an arrest or other... but that's because of always preparing and setting up before the shift. (gloves, IV prep kits, etc. ) love to learn something new every day and I sincerely appreciate the wealth of knowledge, ideas, opinions, experiences and resources posted here... thanks!Merry Christmas to all!
  4. I'm not sure but never give up. You will succeed. Take some time to re-group and take a breather. It's hard work... I'm about halfway done and already exhausted.
  5. The chloraprep did replace the beta/alcohol prep kits here. This is a hot topic and a serious one. I once overheard another medic saying why bother to prep the IV site during a cardiac arrest because..."he's already dead" (bbl)
  6. Does anyone know of any good program on cd-ROM for teaching lab values?
  7. I was taught this way and any other way or reversing 1&2 was a fail on the practical and the written: 1. Alcohol wipe, starting at the center of the site moving in a circular motion outward, dry. 2. Betadine (providing there are no contras prior to starting) applied the same way 3. Allow to dry (no wiping over or start over) The latest in my neck of the woods is... the IV packets of alcohol and betadine no longer contain the betadine. Always check facility policy and procedures. (er 911 emtprn2b) :) *location, location, location is a "Real Estate thing" *liability, liability, liability is a "RN thing"
