  1. Hey all, I was accepted into MGH FNP as well! I am so excited, however I am debating Vanderbilt also. Anyone have any insight? Mellzie22... I sent you a PM
  2. I'm from Seattle! West coast!
  3. @amandy45 -- No I wish I was going! The tickets were cheaper if I fly sometime in April, so I think I am going to go then! I think that it is smart to start looking when we are there, and I would love some nursing student roomies! Maybe check it out when you're there and let me know what you find? And I can always check it out in a month. I have no clue how hard it will be to find a place! Where in California are you from?
  4. @blackbird singing -- my letter said I had to tell Vandy by March 23rd. I wonder why that is. Maybe we are in a different specialty. What did everyone else's say?
  5. @amandy45 and @prooxfordcomma -- did you guys ask for the invite for the Vanderbilt School of Nursing -- Roommate Search. Where are you moving from? Maybe we could look together?
  6. Does anyone know the class size of the FNP's?
  7. de 2013, How do you like the program? Is it really tough? Are the teachers helpful? Do they give out many scholarships? Thanks!
  8. AnaLong.. I was accepted into FNP too! I wonder how many are in our group. Barbaraleev -- Talk about your experience shadowing nurses/volunteering/love for helping people/ and that is why you want to go into nursing. Maybe an experience volunteering made you feel like you connected with the profession and wanted to do what they do!
  9. asulliv24 -- In general, is the weather pretty sunny and warm? Thunderstorms will be interesting! Seattleite -- I am close in age, I am 22 right now and will be 23 when the program starts! I am wondering if we will be the youngest... I am also curious as why Vandy is your number one (as opposed to MGH). What is your major? Are you going to visit soon and figure out where to live? Also, has anyone heard about whether it is hard to get a job out of a direct entry (pre-specialty) program like this? I have a couple nurse practitioners that have advised me to get my BSN first and then go back for a masters in NP-- mainly because you need to get RN experience. So I am wondering if anyone knows if it is hard to get hired as an NP without several years of RN experience?
  10. Congrats AnaLong!!!!! What program!?
  11. Mellzie22 -- I didn't get an email, just a letter in the mail yesterday. Blackbird singing -- Thanks for the input. It sounds like it will be very different from Seattle. I need to visit soon. Where is everyone thinking about living if they move there? Anyone know if it is expensive?
  12. Ya after I wrote that I decided to research and found out that MGH doesn't hold classes in the summer, thus it takes 3 years. I think I would rather go with a school like Vanderbilt that is quicker! @Seattleite did you apply to MGH too? Are you waiting to hear from other schools? Just graduating this Spring... nice! And already applied for Masters? I am assuming you are in your early 20's then?
  13. I am from Seattle!! Has anyone visited Nashville and have opinions about the city? Seattleite.. I am assuming you are from Seattle. Where are you from exactly? Is the open house more of an activity for prospective students who are in the process of applying? I went to one of these at Seattle University and it was all about applying... not directed at students who have been accepted. Are most people waiting to hear from other schools before making a decision? I am waiting to hear from MGH, Simmons and Samuel Merritt but am really excited about getting into Vanderbilt! For those FNP's... am I reading this right that Vanderbilt's program is only 2 years while most programs (MGH etc.) are 3 years? How can this be?
  14. Is everyone visiting soon?
  15. I just got into the FNP program! Are there any others out there? Where is everyone from who is coming out of state?
  16. Is it your first choice and only school you applied to?
  17. I got into the FNP specialty today too! Yay! Where are you from??
  18. I was accepted as well and would love to hear input from recent graduates! I noticed the NCLEX pass rate is a little low. Did people feel they received a good education here and were the faculty helpful?
  19. Myelin, What other direct entry programs have you been accepted to?? That's great!
  20. Princerox I love that.. "Don't be scared of lack of opportunity. If anything be freaked out at all the choices in life!"
  21. What I am wondering is, will not getting a BSN (just getting RN) affect where we would be hired as a nurse? And for all the undeclared, what specialty are you thinking about? I mean it is three years and so we will have to commit to that specialty for a while -- maybe our life? And without getting BSN, I hear it is hard to get hired. Any thoughts on this?
  22. I got in too!!! Congrats everyone! Surprised to hear this early
  23. Orchidgal, from what I heard that is exactly what is happening. They interviewed more than 16 people because some of the people chose not to be undeclared and so she didn't move them to the "undeclared" pile. From what I took on it it, in the end, we will only be ranked along with 15 other people.
  24. Ok so from what she told me.. we start in June and choose that November (before we first year is over). We will get a lot of help from the professors and advisors about choosing the right track that fits us. She also said that many people have done adult health cns with a psych clinical (because I applied for the psych np), which is interesting if it seems that adult health cns is already full (did she tell you this orchidgal since you also applied to psych?). She did tell me in some of the specialties they are allowed to take 12, but will only take 8 for instance to allow 4 spots for the undeclares. Did she tell this to anyone else? Also, yes the "interview" was completely informative. You guys prepared me so no I wasn't nervous!
  25. YES!! So you guys all had it right.. they offer 16 people interviews.. accept 11 and waitlist 5. All 5 wait listed last year got in. Seems like everyone who got an interview and accepted undeclared will most likely get in. YAY GUYS! Don't stress. They pool the 16 applicants together and rank them like that. ALSO -- we won't hear until mid-February. So a lot longer than you guys thought, but it's ok! Better knowing that you're going to have to try and take your mind off it for a while.
