I already apologized to him/her. Thank you for the information, I don't try to look for offense it's just most of the time, in my past, people are cruel.

I apologize, it's just everyone I talk to gives me different answers or is basically rude to me because I don't know where to start. I want to make the right decision, what's the best plan for my future and my family. I'm so worried I'm going to do all this work an in the end it will have been the wrong life decision. So again sorry for biting your head off, I'm just frustrated.

According to the counselors you submit an application before you start doing your prerequisites, then assuming you complete the all with a 3.8 GPA or higher they will consider you. Then if they think your worthy they will call you to set up an interview, if you pass that one they will set up another interview. There's two tests in there as well, and even if you are the perfect student and do everything they want they don't have to accept you. So then your stuck with a bunch of prerequisites at you can barely use, maybe to get an associates degree in biology. They even buy out all the seats in the A and P class to make it harder for you to get into the class. I don't want to go through all the stress and bs just to get to the end of the road and have them tell me it's a no go. I want something when I am done with school, I want some guarantee. Otherwise it seems like a waste of time when I could do something else and know that when I'm done I get a degree.

Hey, I am conflicted on how to go about my future career. I would love to be a RN but from talking to the counselors they say its almost impossible to get accepted into their 2 year nursing program. So I was thinking of doing CMA instead. Any suggestions? How much does a CMA make a year compared to an ADN? Thanks for the help.

Well in April I passed the Kentucky certification so I am a CNA!! Anyways I want to continue my education and become an RN. My question is which and how many prerequisites do I need in order to do to associates degree for nursing? I know the ADN obviously will take me two years but I am curious how long it will take me to get to that point. Also, aside from FAFSA and Pell Grants, are there any good grants out there for people wanting to become an RN? I am moving to Texas in October (per the Army) so I have to wait till after we get moved to start everything but I wanted to try and get a head start so I know what I am getting myself into. Thanks!

I have just started CNA classes and I really want to move up to LPN after that. I will have to find a job right after becoming a CNA due to financial issues so I would be working and trying to do school together, plus being married and trying to have time for my family. Anyways, so I have heard that some companies will pay for you to move up to LPN as long as you agree to work with them after. Does that mean that you would work part time and do school part time, work full time and school, or what? What is the easiest way to go about this. Should I work as a CNA for 6months to a year before trying to become an LPN? I need any advice you can give me! Also if the company wont pay for it will the work with you around your school schedule. Sorry for so many questions and this being kinda repetitive I am just trying to get the most information so I can do this the easiest and fastest way.

Are Certified Nurse Assistant and Certified Medical Assistant the same thing? And if not what is the difference between the two (as in duties,pay,how do you become a cma, etc)?

So you're allowed to bring a computer to take notes on? Man that would be great cause I can type faster than I can write, plus then I can organize it all when I get home. Is there a lot of homework or studying that is needed to be done at home? Reading chapters out of textbooks and answering questions and things of that nature. How much is an automatic blood pressure machine?

I start this Thursday and it ends on May 7th, it is a total of 11 classes. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Starting at 8:00am till 4:30pm. I have a pretty good knowledge of medical terminology and SIG codes. Will they help you build a resume? I would like to continue my education and move to LPN next will they help or give advice about any of that?

I am starting my CNA class the Thursday, the 9th! I am very nervous and excited at the same time. I am doing this through the Red Cross, has anyone else done this through them as well? What should I bring on the first day? I am doing my classes at the Louisville, KY location, is there anyone else out there that will be doing the classes then as well. Any advice on what to expect, what to bring, and so on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you for all the great information! Do you enjoy being a CNA? When did you enjoy it more; working at a nursing home, upscale nursing home, or in a hospital? Ok so I have an odd question, last night my dog got really sick and was vomiting everywhere and so I ended up cleaning it all up and while I was doing this I was gagging and making gagging noises which made me think "Is it inappropriate to gag when cleaning up body fluids around a patient?" How are you supposed to get around that? I mean its not like your trying to make a patient feel uncomfortable because your gagging due to cleaning up their body fluids. I hope that question came out ok and made sense. What do you do? Body fluids don't bother me but I still gag. What would you say is the worst and the best part about being a CNA?

I wasnt trying to sound mean. I have applied for other medical positions before and had a bad experience with the whole "need experience" thing. Im a pharmacy technician (as in certified but never worked). I worked really hard on studying and everything just to go to a few interviews to have people tell me they wont hire me unless I have experience. So at that point I gave up with try to get a pharm tech job because I got tired of getting so hopeful/excited just to told Im not good enough, plus I have applied everywhere and the only places hiring are like 40 miles away from where I live, so when I was looking on craigslist I saw that everyone is wanting CNA's. Which is why Im doing this now in hopes of having better luck. Im just concerned that I will be just as disappointed if I go into an interview and get turned down over and over again. Didnt mean to come off angry. Sorry.

I haven't applied. That would be kinda dumb to apply for a job I'm not qualified for. I have been readin the ads, classifieds, craigslist, etc.

Im not picky in the sense that I will only apply for hospital jobs, I just would prefer it. Ill apply anywhere, any hours, and do any job. I would love to do EKG training but I dont have $800 just sitting around. It was hard enough for me to get the money for the CNA courses and the AED/CPR/First aid course. Thanks for the information though. I haven't actually even done my CNA classes yet, but I am just feeling the water in my area to see what the CNA demand (or non demand) is.

Goodness thats even worse than my pity party. Im just young, but youve even been through so much and people are still tell you youre not experienced enough. I made an entire thread about this whole experience thing, figure we cant be the only ones out there. You're a wonder women! I dont think I could do all that, having a husband, dog, cat, parents, and in-laws are a lot for me right now haha. The only thing close to experience similar to nursing home patients is I worked at a day care. I cared for children from the age of 1 month to 12 years old. i find it so frustrating. everyone wants cnas experience, i even read a job add that wanted someone with ten years of experience, but how am i supposed to get any experience if no one will give me the chance to begin to develop some? how can they expect a new cna to have experience? if your a new cna then obviously you haven't been spending your time working as one, you have been in school. most new cna's are young and therefore again you haven't had the time, years, to even get a job in your career field to develop experience. its like having credit; credit card companies, banks, etc. won't give you any credit if you dont have any. well when you're 20 years old, married, and just starting out you obviously have no credit, you cant get any credit if no one will give you any credit. i feel cheated in the experience portion with employers, its like they are saying that i am not smart enough because i haven't been working in the medical field. how do they know if i'm really good or even really bad at what i do if they don't give me the chance to show them?

Will an emergency room at a hospital or even a walk in clinic hire a CNA?

it costs $650 dollars which includes my work books, blood pressure kit, and criminal background check. what it does not cover is the tb test, uniforms (red scrub pants and a white red cross shirt), white shoes, and then the state testing fee. for kentucky my state testing fee is $75 dollars which really isn’t too bad. i'm so glad i could help you out with the cpr thing. in the 75 hours of training you get 59 of them are spent in a classroom and 16 are in a clinical setting. i am doing the monday, wednesday, and thursday classes from 8:00am to 4:30pm, the entire course is 11 days. is that the same for your courses?

Hes in the same boat as I am, most guys in the Army like to get wasted and hang out in bars, which he only does on occasion since its expensive and boring after a while. Most of the Army wives spread rumors like there is no tomorrow. Drama, drama, drama. I hate drama so I avoid it, but doing so alienates me from having friends.

I figured the CPR class should be easy, but I might as well knock it out now while I have nothing better to do. Plus I will already have it when I become a CNA and then it will be another thing to add to my resume! I'm anxious and excited at the same time for everything that is coming in February. Hopefully I will be able to make some friends where ever I end up working, although I have heard its not always a good thing to make friends with the people you work with due to drama,rumors,etc. But it sucks when my husband goes and hangs out with his Army buddies on a Friday or Saturday night, and I get to sit at home with the cat and the dog yeah know. Plus trusting people in this day in age is so hard. I mean I had a friend that I did everything for; lent her money for gas when she had none (didn't even want her to pay me back, thats what friends are for) gave her food when she had none, came over to her house and took care of her while she was sick, cleaned her house, bought her a Beta fish with the bowl, gravel, food, and everything since she wasn't allowed to have cats or dogs, while her husband was overseas I helped take some nice (xxx) photos of her so she could send them to her hubby (My hobby is photography, I love it!). Then after all that she completely screwed me over, made lies about me to make her flaws better and blamed her drug addiction on me. When I was the one trying to get her sober. Anyways, I'm ranting now. I just wish friends were easier to come by and trustworthy, so you didn't feel like you had to constantly watch your back.

So once you become a CNA and get a job can you work for a year for the company and have them help, and then become a LPN (this is what I was told) without having to go to any schooling? Or maybe limited schooling? Or is it not that easy..

I agree, although I know I want to be in the be in the medical field. It is something I have always wanted to do. So to become an LPN from CNA would just be fantastic. Thank you, and everyone for the advice and words of encouragement!
