Howdy. I actually saw your other post before I saw this one and already replied to you on there regarding this same subject. I will repost it here. I'm in the exact same boat. Graduate December, NCLEX January (or as soon as I can), ODS February or March (LCDR Gomez says most likely March), and San Diego "tentatively" after that. I was also curious about the word tentative. San Diego was my top choice, and I would hate to get the rug pulled out from under me now that I have it in my mind where I am going. Obviously I will be happy to go wherever they send me and not controlling my destination is the nature of the beast. I am curious also, though, if anybody previous NCPer's "tentative" orders changed. On a more personal note, my name is Will, and I live in Louisiana. Looking forward to getting in the Navy and starting my post-college life. It'd be nice to actually have talked to someone before we all go to ODS.

I went through it back in January or so. I didn't have to stay overnight, but I was also within 30 minutes driving distance. I'm not sure where your closest MEPS center is. You will not swear in. Main difference between the two, to the best of my knowledge, is they interview and select a job after the medical and fingerprint part (I just left after that). And you will have to be selected to be commissioned. Going through MEPS is a prerequisite/requirement and part of your application to be commissioned. Hope this helps!

Navy NCP is $5k bonus upon acceptance to the program, $1k stipend each month the student is enrolled full time in his/her program, and another $5k bonus at the 6 month mark of being in the program. Same idea, but just different timing for the award of the second $5k.

Yeah I have read y'all talking about that on other posts. I was just assuming because I don't graduate until December, and I figure those jobs will have to have vacancies by then. I appreciate the heads up though. I am going to go through some of the medium size bases and see which ones I would like if it comes down to it. Do you have any suggestions or information on any of them?

I am in the NCP, and I graduate in December. While it is no given, I think it is safe to assume that I will end up at one of the big 3 hospitals after I go to ODS. I have been looking online for certain apartments near the hospital, but that obviously is going to be high price apartments. While I'm not necessarily opposed to that, I would like to hear where some people who have been stationed at these places chose to live and how it was. Just trying to get an idea from first-handers. NCP is competitive. I'm not sure what the numbers breakdown to, but I know without a doubt that the numbers don't properly reflect how competitive it really is. Recruiters will either turn away non-competitive candidates or not be really helpful if they don't think you have a chance. You're probably going to get in if you've made it this far, but I wouldn't be so confident sounding. With all that said, good luck and I hope the best for you.

VentcSN--Did you graduate in December? When were you originally told you would be going to ODS? I am in the NCP now and I was led to believe that I would more than likely be leaving a month or two after graduation, but it doesn't sound like that is what happened for you. Also, were you told to contact your Detailer after you took the NCLEX? thanks!

Assuming the final word comes through, any idea on time frame for ODS or the amount of time provided to take the NCLEX (is it a requirement that we must take take/pass the nclex before we leave)?

1. In the AF they have the NTP. Does the Navy has something similar to this? If so, is it really competitive based with a very small number of slots? The AF NTP only had 30 slots for all the applicants. Is the Navy similarly limited? The navy has something called a nurse candidate program (NCP). 65ish slots i believe, but don't quote me on it. 2. What are the weight and GPA requirements to join? (I have a 3.1 GPA) I'm not sure about the weight requirements off the top of my head. I know that I am a 6'0 male and 195 is my max. Google should have some tables for height/weight. For the NCP, min GPA is 3.0. 3. Do I have to wait a certain period after I graduate or get a certain amount of experience before I can enlist? Pretty much the only way a new nurse will get in the military as a nurse is through a program like NCP. It is incredibly difficult and a really lengthy process to do direct assession for anyone, much less a nurse with no exp. 4. What is a "DA"? Direct Assession. Commissioning straight from civilian world to military. ***I have only just turned in my packet for NCP and only answered your questions on what I understand to be accurate through my research. Please, anyone feel free to correct any wrong information***

Hey, no really useful information from me. I am in the middle of the NCP process now. Deadline for turning stuff in is next week. Should have everything done. I imagine waiting for an answer is going to be the hardest part. Congrats on getting in. I bet you are excited. I'd really love to hear an answer to your post, so that's why I am posting. :cheers:

I assume you are talking about MEPS. If so, I just went through it about 2 weeks ago. You have a few briefs and a lot of waiting before you get going. But other than that, you have a vision test, depth perception test, color blindness test, hearing test, urinalysis for drugs, blood taken to test for HIV (I believe), you get you vitals, and you see a doc that goes over your forms and DQs you if he deems necessary. After that, you go in a room where you will be test physically. You strip down to your underwear and you follow commands to test joints and limbs. Most difficult is the duck walk. After that, they check you for a few things in your privates (I'm a guy and this is what they did. Can't speak for what women went through). After that, I had to get fingerprints. I was an officer going through so the process ended for me there. I know the enlisted people had an interview, swearing in ceremony, and some other things I didn't partake in. That is about as detailed as I can remember. Hope it helps.
