I hate my boss!
It should be mandatory that during a new hire MGR - orientation to include at first working with STNA on the floor..then orient with the nurse to do med pass..then go from there. The unit Mgr in our floor right now- I don't know what she does. I only see her at the time clock when it's time to leave.

My Job Sucks.
I love being a nurse. But boy am I starting to hate my place of employment... The cutbacks in Medicare and Medicaid has steadily made Mr Corporate unhappy. Not only are we expected to attend a fundraising event to raise money for the facility- they've also trimmed short, the extra changed we get on our shift differential. To top of, Blue Cross coverage suck. I have 5 thousand deductible- and its 200 per pay check. Quietly, I asked- where is God ? Don't get me wrong. I appreciate having a job. But man, something's got to give. Tonight we were again 1 body short of STNA; and as the charged nurse I think seriously; I might as well be given the STNA's assignment. My marbles was busy grating trying to accommodate how I can feed people; toilet people and put people to bed during my never ending med pass. The desk phone rings..ringing...the call lights- ding ding ding. It's a Psych and skilled unit rolled into one; and 2 very special screaming voices hollering intermittently for our attention. I'm trying. Trying hard, really. Quietly, I asked. I asked where is God in all of this? My co workers and I look at each other, words need not spoken. This is wrong. So wrong.

Combining Med Passes
Either give it at 5 altogether; or at hs altogether. That's just the nature of the beast. Circling it means the resident did not received it and you certainly can't hold or not give it just because they are sleeping. It is IMPOSSIBLE to give 5 and 8 med pass to 4o something residents and also do tx. Nurses certainly are not going to admit to cock tailing. Have the one orient you; really orient you to how they get the job done.

How soon to give PRN Clonidine after routine BP meds?
What's the parameter on the clonidine?Since her bp went down after the routine med i'd reassure the family you'd recheck the bp again later to monitor. I've had systolic higher than 200 only to drop a few minutes later.

HELP!!!!
Let this be a lesson. As a new stna be aware that there are underlying factors that can cause an elderly to behave this way. You are responsible to care for a population with a list of medical history..many who have dementia and psych issues. A joke- whatever the joke was- can trigger negative behaviors.

How do i turn the other cheek and not be bothered by what i see.Sure i can go look elsewhere..and i asked and check i'm often told by others that tried it's worst of out there. Stuck here between love and hate.

Staff/Patient Ratio - 30 Patients per Nurse
Can't we report anonymously to the state? It seems like the only time the mgt scramble is when the state is there. State is not looking hard enough since this is ongoing.I really want to know where- who- we can all go to . This has to stop.

Good luck with the job. The hours sound great. Hopefully the pay is decent. We're always nervous about something what with the what if's. Enjoy time with the family. You'll do fine.

Anyone use voice recorder for admissions? etc..
I worked 3-11 and getting frequent admissions (I have a total of 28 residents. 7 are Rehab). I was thinking of recording my voice as I read and find the info I need to transcribe. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with all the interruptions etc..that I find myself going back and forth with the paperwork. I think this will save me time. ?
