What's the difference between and RN and an LPN
RN, LPN, CNA are all different jobs. They all have different scopes of practice. RNs delegate to LPN, CNA.

Feeling sick but don't want to call out on first day of orientation
Never call in on your first day for feeling crappy, it is likely just your nerves!

Does my clinical intructor not like me or am I being sensitive?
This is very typical. They want to make sure you are getting the most out of your experience. If it happens again, just explain what you are doing. If you are within your scope of RN student practice, and you are not harming your patient or neglecting others, the instructor cannot argue. I have had good instructors and bad instructors. It just seems they are coming off rude when they are just as busy as you are! :)

Unemployed & inexperienced New RNs. Vent it out!

Was nursing school fun?
I know this is different everywhere you go, but my class of 60 was about 1/3 male. This is very new. All out teachers kept referring to the nurse in the feminine, and kept having to correct herself. This is the one profession I know of that has historically been predominantly female. The only problem that I ever saw was clients wanting a female nurse. All you can do is respect their request and try not to take it personally, it's not your fault. Clinical is the most fun part of RN school. The best advice I can give is to stick your nose in everything. Set a goal for the day and work like crazy to get to it. Tell your nurse what your goal is and (s)he will typically work to get it for you. Lecture and tests were stressful, clinical was FUN!

CNA clinicals and AZ state board exam?!
As a RN student getting ready to do my 96 hours (8shifts) I can tell you that I am just as scared as you are. The LTC facilities are a little easier than somewhere the patient turnover is high. Build rapport with the patients and that will go a LONG way. Don't be afraid to talk to the patients and ask questions when you are unsure.

Poll: What do you love about the NICU?
I love the smell of the NICU. It has a very distinct smell!

NICU help please!!!!
I am starting my preceptorship in the NICU at Phoenix Children's Hospital on Monday. I was trying to put together all my brain sheets from all the different areas I worked in during RN school and I just don't feel that a brain sheet based on adults is appropriate. I just joined so I don't have the ability to PM. If you could email me your brain sheets so I can be as prepared as possible I would greatly appreciate it! Please email @ [[email protected]] Thank you! Billie:redpinkhe

Tips for a NICU New Grad?
Hi Bortaz, RN. I just registered on this site and saw that you had a brain sheet in excel. I am starting my preceptorship in the NICU and unfortunately all my brainsheets are for adults. I want to go to my first day as prepared as possible. Throughout my time in RN school I have collected all the brainsheets I could find from all the nurses I worked with. Unfortunately, the nurse I shadowed in the NICU just used a blank piece of paper. If you could email me the brainsheet [[email protected]] I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks Billie
