Ocvts LPN program Fall 2016
All my books have arrived. I've been looking over the syllabus and working on memorizing the sheet they gave us at registration. I haven't ordered my clinical uniform yet, but I did buy a set of royal blue scrubs. The patch just has to be on the scrub jacket only right?

I got into LPN school!
@sweetlola648 I bought the ati book and another book called "ace the teas v". But, seriously the best thing I did was get on YouTube and watch these videos by tecmath. He makes it really easy to understand and I learned a lot if shortcuts. I only had a few days to study and I passed and I've been out of school for 20+ years. So honestly. I'd say it helped a lot! I also took all the practice tests out of the book. The practice tests will help you a lot for reading. Good luck!

Is being a CNA really so dreadful?
It's one of the hardest jobs in the world, IMO. I have been a cna for 5 years with the plan to eventually go to school for RN. Most of the CNA's I know have worked at many different facilities. It is hard to find a good place to work. The best advice I can give you is to ask around. Look for a good LTC to work at, and when you get a job keep your chin up. There can be a lot of drama from coworkers which is often the biggest challenge you'll face in this field. Personally I think this job has made me a better person. I've gained a great work ethic and compassion. I've learned how to time manage and grew a thick skin. All things I think will undoubtably benefit me down the road as I pursue a career in nursing.

Want to work in Dementia care - any advice?
Like the above poster mentioned , most places have units dedicated to Alzhiemers/Dementia. I was just like you and after clinical time I knew that was where I wanted to be, so when I got my first job, I requested that floor. I have worked at a few places since then and have always request placement in that unit. Most places were happy to put me there (I was a float at one place but got my wish shortly after I started)

CNA in NJ/NYC
In nj you can practice as a student nurse pretty much doing cna/pct work as someone n this thread already mentioned once you complete a certain module. The pay is from 10 to at the most 14 or 15 an hour (if you're lucky!). I have 5 years experience and have not found anywhere here in south Jersey that wants to pay me more than 13 for full time, no benefits. The most I ever made was 16 per diem at an ltc at the shore, it was a rough job though-very understaffed With the cost of commuting into the city even from North Jersey, I don't think it would be worth it unless they legit payed you like 18 to 20 an hour. Good luck, let us know what you find! Cna class took me a month and was around 1600, very easy!

I need the real deal on what to expect from lti moorestown before i make it official
Hi LALA_MA2bLPN ! I am seriously looking at Lincoln Tech in Moorestown as well. I was taking classes at BCC but with all the pre reqs and the waiting list, I was looking at least 3 or more years to graduate! I am 38 years old and have 3 little kids and though I am a cna now I have not worked the past year in order to stay focused on my studies.I don't have that kind of time to be out of work though, I need to get a good job within the next year or so! I have read a lot of negative comments about the school , but I also happen to know 2 lpn's who graduated from their program (when they were in Mount Laurel) and both are working and are satisfied with the education they received. I was impressed by the new campus in Moorestown. It was very clean, and expansive! Also the labs and classrooms look really nice. I checked out their pass rate for the NCLEX and it is at 70 or so percent. So I am guessing that after you complete the course you are really going to have to hit the test review books hard! Hopefully that number goes up with the class I'm in if I do decide to go! The only thing I can honestly say that is keeping me from signing the papers at this moment is the cost of the program. I am going to have to take out some student loans to cover it as, I only received about $3600 in pell grants. If I can not finance most of the amount, I will not be able to go as I do not have income available to pay a monthly tuition bill. The recruiter I have is pushing a hard sale with me, I have passed their version of the "teas" -honestly I wonder if everyone does, lmao! Had to wonder if the proctor in the room was busy changing test answers on her little computer as I know I did miserably on the math portion but I still managed to pass the whole test with a 72! Than the recruiter was like "wow! you're so smart!" I was like "aww, you say that to all the girls!" lmao! lolz! They really pitch the sale! SO anyway, I go back on Friday to sit in front of "the panel" -Hopefully I will be able to sit down with financial aid as well and get more insight on how much it is really going to cost me.

I am 36 years old and I have 3 kids and I am going back to school in the fall. I am just beginning because I have to take so many pre reqs and I am really worried too! I am a cna also but I don't plan on working while I go to school. Its going to be a huge sacrifice but worth it! good luck to you :)
