  1. OK….I'm tired (started staying up later and later to transition to nights, but having trouble sleeping in). Meriwhen……I see the organization from your earlier post……so thank you! Also, I am in California……it's just that my DUI was in New Orleans. It may make it harder to get the info if I'm not there is person…….
  2. While combing through threads for hours…..because that's what you do when you are first processing the possibility of a huge roadblock to your dream……I did find an instance in GA….26 years previous and it was held up forever because of lack of documentation. That's my biggest fear…..that I won't have enough "evidence" of rehabilitation. Also, back then the penalties were not as harsh, and it may look as though I was given a light sentence………..around $400 in fees, 32 hours of community service and maybe 8 meetings of some sort…..I honestly can't recall everything. I was 19 years old, but the drinking age was 18 in Louisiana at the time, so I want to explain that it was not underage drinking. I did call the CA BRN first thing and was told that I need to get the court documents. So, I called the courts in New Orleans and they had closed 30 minutes prior and won't be open on Monday because of MLK. After freaking out a little yesterday at the potential ramifications, i called some good friends (some of them nurses) for a little perspective. I will continue talking with the BRN and will get any and all documentation that is needed (or prove that it is unavailable)….I will be remorseful instead of "hey this happened ages ago"…..I will understand that it may take extra time, but it's my own fault. The most reassuring thing I heard yesterday was……."God didn't open all of these doors just to slam them in your face." I have to turn it over to Him, while at the same time being diligent in going through the steps to successfully take care of this matter. Oh, and concentrate on doing well in my student clinical preceptorship starting this Monday. I hadn't revealed my DUI to my teenagers, but did so yesterday as a lesson as to "your actions today may affect you in years to come." Thanks for the advice………I'm going to hold off on the lawyer until I see what info I can get from New Orleans and talk with the BRN again. For future reference: What was the name of the organization for nursing attorneys? Thanks!
  3. So, I had a DUI in college over 28 years ago in New Orleans, Louisiana…….did what required of me at the time and had it expunged. The problem I may have is getting the required documents. I'm assuming that I can get the court documents (though worried if they were not computerized in 1985, they could have been lost in Katrina), but as far as recent letters from my rehab counselor……I don't really have one. I was feeling hopeful that it was so long ago, but have renewed worry by Merriwhen's comment about "decades old DUI). Where can I find that thread?
  4. APU ELM Main Campus Fall 2012 is the name of the FB group. Chi made it a private group, but you can request to join and I think she (as admin) needs to add you.
  5. Allnurses lost a bunch of posts. Musingmom had posted on here looking for the FB page for the main campus cohort. Chiflavored....how do we add her to the FB group? Does she need to friend one of us first?
  6. Clarification: I know this thread has included topics on all three campuses, but the FB page that chiflavored set up is for those who will be starting at the main campus in Azusa this Fall, 2012. Not to be exclusive, just thought that everyone would really want to only connect with others in the same cohort at the same campus. Thanks Chi for setting it up......Jill
  7. Here is a quote from the APU website: As an alternative to full-time study, students may elect to complete master's degree requirements through studying in a part-time format while taking courses each semester. I was told that you can work part-time and go to school full-time, or work full-time and go to school part-time to get your MSN. I don't know about the SD program, but on the main campus, APU's School of Nursing established a local Neighborhood Wellness Center in 1998. You can read more about it here: Neighborhood Wellness Center: 10 Years of Service - Articles - Azusa Pacific University I would guess that the SD campus also participates in some sort of community outreach. Just helping to make your decision a little harder......
  8. On the website, Azusa lists the program as 3-4 years. It really depends upon the specialty you choose and whether you go full or part time during the Master's portion. I've also been accepted into the fall cohort at the main campus. It was my first choice and I didn't apply anywhere else once I found out that I was accepted. CSU programs are less expensive, but not by much: APU charges $555 per unit.........at 69 units for the pre-licensure portion, it equals $38,295. The longest master's program has 40 units which equals a base tuition of $22,200. This totals around $60,000. CSULA charges $450 per unit for the pre-licensure portion........at 76 units, it equals $34,200. There is no per unit fee that I could find for graduate studies. Instead, they list a base tuition of around $8000 for full-time graduate enrollment per year. Requirements for a MSN range from 45-75 units. I don't know how that translates to years because they are on a quarter system and I'm only familiar with a semester system. At the low end of 2 years for the master's portion, you are looking at $16,000 and around $50,000 for the total ELMSN program. 3 years for the master's portion is $24,000 and $58,000 for the total program. So, either a $10,000 or a $2,000 differential. Of course, this doesn't take into account books, clinical fees and other expenses. Plus any tuition rate hikes. The UC's and the CSU's are anticipating increasing tuition due to the California budget crisis, but I haven't looked into it much as I had already decided upon APU. Not trying to sway you either way, but wanted you to make an informed decision. When I did my research, I was quite surprised that the cost was relatively comparable. If you do decide on APU, please PM me as I would love to communicate with others that will be starting at the main campus this fall!
  9. It's my understanding that since they merged the SCAN and EENP programs there is no longer rolling admissions. My undergrad was a 2.9 (from 20 years ago), but my pre-req's were 4.0. I've been accepted to the Fall 2012 cohort at the main campus. You got your application in early which is a good thing. I don't think it would hurt to call to see when they will start reviewing applications. Good Luck!!!
  10. I received a phone call and then an email........
  11. My account says complete, but it does say Fall 2012. Hope that helps...... I only applied to the main campus.....for which campus or campuses did you apply? Fingers crossed for you...........
  12. I just got accepted to APU's ELMSN for Fall 2012 at the main campus. Anyone else get in and would like to connect?
  13. I turned in my application for the Azusa campus/Fall 2012 on Oct. 4th and just found out that they don't have any interview slots left. I was told that our applications will be given equal weight as those with interviews and that it is a point system, but that doesn't make sense. Either way, I feel better knowing where I stand and have to trust that I will end up where I'm supposed to be. Letters are supposed to go out in January. Good luck to all!
  14. When you had a pre-advisement session, was it at the Graduate Admissions office with the ELMSN enrollment counselor or was it at the School of Nursing with one of their counselors? I turned in my application on October 4th, but haven't heard anything from the SON, only a letter from the Graduate Admissions office that the application was complete and they were forwarding it to the academic department. Have you heard anything from the SON? I'm applying for the main campus. Thanks........
