  1. I guess it depends on your state. I know it used to be 13 but was revamped by the NONPF. Check their website to find out. Here is the link: http://www.nonpf.com/
  2. From what I understand, and APNP can see adolescents starting from age 12 and up. I went to University of South Alabama and I was told that an APNP can see adolescents starting at this age. I had to have so many adolescent hours in my clinical requirements. I hope this helps.
  3. I will be completing my Gero-Psych NP at the University of South Alabama. Where did you get the info about the psychoactive drugs being limited to only DNP prepared NPs working in psych??? Thanks!
  4. That's just about sums it up. I have never seen it from that perspective. 10:1 or 12:1 is definitely not safe, and almost guarantees someone losing their license. You are right about the CEOs making 3 million plus. I know at my hospital our CEO brings in around 7 million so needless to say, why are we paying them the big bucks. Truthfully that doesn't even register. If anything, their salaries should be around $300,000 and that's pushing it.
  5. Well, you may want to consider bringing your son with you. Surely, there is something you can work out.
  6. I would suggest moving if you are not able to find gainful employment as an RN. I find this so hard to believe, but I guess there are places not feeling the nursing shortage. Have you thought about Texas. I live 36 miles outside of Houston, TX and they are begging for RNs. Good luck in your search!
  7. I am not a new graduate. I have been nursing for over 16 years. Also, I have 2 certifications. My RN experience (6 years) LVN experience (10 years). Even though they did not count my LVN experience, this is what I started at.
  8. I have BSN and I am currently working at the VA as well. I am a Nurse II step 3. However, I was an LVN prior to getting my RN and the VA does not count LVN experience. I think this sucks! Also, I really don't like it there. They are not pro-nursing by any means. It says its Magnet but truthfully they are not what I consider a Magnet Hospital. They have a long way to go. Just a thought!
  9. I am in my 3rd semester of GNP/APNP and University of South Alabama. I fell overwhelmed with little enthusiam. However, I keep thinking about what I will be able to do once I finish, I perk up. I try to keep focused on the final product. Right now I am taking 8 hours and doing clinicals. I am also working full-time but will be going to part-time next month. There is no way I can work full-time and complete NP school. So hang in there. You are not alone.
  10. Thanks for the information. I have the salary table for locality pay but I was looking for the Nurse I, II, III, IV pay table. I think it is under 0610 pay???? I was looking for it on the internet. I was also wondering if you know anybody working there and how do they like it?
  11. Does anyone know where to find the VA medical center pay for registered nurses 2008? Oh is there anyone out there that knows anything about the Michael E. Debakey VA Hospital in Houston, TX? Thanks!
  12. Well I am getting ready to start working for the VA Hospital here in Houston, TX. The pay is based on how years of nsg experience you have. They have Nurse I, II, III, IV, V. Plus here in Houston we get a locality pay. You also get 5 wks vacation, 13 sick days a year, 10 paid holidays, and 25% diff on the weekend. Oh double time if you work the holiday. Where are you located?
  13. What a shame!
  14. I too have worked for some bad nurse managers as well. However, it was due to lack of experience or other issues surrounding the situation.
  15. These situations can be very challenging. Nurses are stuck with rectifying the situation in the end. The manager I have does not respect nurses at all. She seems to think that nurses and nurse practitioners are "hand-maidens" (her direct quote). My response is some day a nurse will be caring for you and we'll see what you think then.
