Nurse volunteers: Do you sign "RN"?
Personally, I would hesitate to sign my name RN if i am not working in that capacity for legal reasons. I agree with checking with the manager, too.

Want to do trauma - should I pick ED or ICU?
i stand corrected. i guess it depends on the facility.

I have worked both. You will get more trauma experience in the ED probably. You will not get any in the CCU. They are totally different animals. CCU is clean, interesting and fun, but not trauma. SICU is good, esp if you like follow up and families, etc. Just my opinion.

new grad & written up for the first time today at work :/
Sounds like the doctor is a jerk. it would have been stuck to the wound when you took it off as well, and he is quite more equipped to handle it than you are. what kind of dressing was it? wet to dry is supposed to stick. if not, try some telfa. take a deep breath, and give yourself a break. look at how you can do better, and don't take anything too terribly personally. people in this field seem to love to blame and pass the buck. be pro active and ask your manager if you can come in a few hours extra to learn the system better.

Do I need to quit?
Welcome to nursing!! There is a reason starting out on a med/surg floor is recommended. LTC is difficult, if not impossible. Keep notes, smile and nod. Then do what you were taught to do. And find another job. Good luck!

Be a nurse or not?! HELP ME PLEASE!
I have to agree with all of the above. Also, there is a huge trend right now in the diet arena. plant based diet books, movies, etc are exploding all over. It sounds like you could use your talents to create a wonderful career that could net you much more money and freedom than nursing. good luck!
