  1. I wanted to post on SDN until I realized they closed it. Heres my 2 cents. Its a turf war. The MDAs who spent years obtaining there credentials and trying to preserve there accomplishment and the CRNAs who are highly specialized professionals. If I were an MDA of course I would make there argument that CRNAs a detrimental to patient care. If I were a CRNA I would protect my job. Point is: If there was no need for CRNAs then hospitals would not hire them. Also, if patient care suffers hospitals would not hire them. Of course there are exeptions. I think we are just seeing the evolution of the healthcare industry. The market is the loudest voice and right now the market is finding room for CRNAs.
  2. I also experienced vivid dreams initially taking prozac and also lexapro. It goes away I somewhat. Although sometimes I dream of something and it goes in my memory as it already happened. Recently, I was dreaming of playing football. As I went for a tackle in my dream I woke up hitting my head on the corner of wood. I realized that I was enacting the tackle while I was sleeping. My eye is now bruised!!
  3. Did running help you better than the drugs. I take lexapro with hardly any side effects but I rather go natural. Do you think it maintains the serotin level just as well as medication. I also know someone who does this. I didnt believe her at first but now youre the second person whos saying this.
  4. I was going to school when my father was fighting lung cancer for 1 year. He passed away last september. If you are like me then you will not feel focused on school. My grades suffered somewhat so I took less classes. Its important to not ignore your feelings. BUt I guess you just do your best and worry about what you have control over.
  5. I was wondering if cockiness comes from insecurity. I notice Im most cocky when Im feel my most insecure so I compensate by acting above someone else. Also the post about surgical residents. Maybe they are cocky and competitive because surgery attracts those kind of people. Anyways my main point is cockiness may stem from fragile egos.
  6. Alot of my peers dont have a high opinion of doctors because of their experiences with them. One of them find that doctors seem to be distant and unsocial (dont look at you in the eye, smile, ect..) However my parents have a high opinion of nurses. It could be that there generation respected doctors more because of how they were raised. This generation may not have the same awe or respect for doctors. I dont know what do you think? In spite of the show my peers still see beyond this. Its just like the crime shows on TV. Do those detectives always dress fashionably and look that good?
  7. I came across this in a chemistry textbook I was studying about the connection between postpregnancy deaths and hygeine. Decades ago, a prominent person (forgot his name) noticed that doctors and residents would go straight to the delivery room without washing their hands to delivery a baby. Oftentimes the would go straight from dissention to the delivery room. He also noticed that nurse midwives who were in charge of deliveries had a lower rate of postpregnancy death observing that they made sure to wash their hands and stay clean. Obviously nurses were more advanced in this area. Story goes on that the person decides to implement a policy where doctors were required to wash hands, before delivering and of course death rates dropped. However, even with that result the residents and doctors complained and he was booted from the hospital and the policy was abondoned. How funny is that? Reminds me of the grumbling in hospitals today. So it stands..it was nurses who pioneered this practice and it took some time for the med community to catch up. Doesnt this make you proud when you feel nurses dont get enough recognition?
  8. We also have to consider that the producers would like some bad publicity from nurses because this increases their ratings by giving it a buzz. So our intention could backfire and cause more viewership at least temporary. Alternatively, we can also use this potential publicity as a springboard to educating the public. I just dont know if we have enough clout at this time to change a show's script but as we continue educating the public in other areas well get stronger. -maybe we can create a nurse drama ourselves!
  9. Shes going to see the endocrynologist and if there is nothing there then the psychological reasons will weigh even more. We just hope she doesnt have a rare condition thats difficult to diagnose.
  10. She told me she had a good EKG thats all I know by name. When she went to the cardiologist I think he did full test such as chest x ray, ect.. enough to declare her heart was not damaged. I hope that helps. I can find out some more. I think she did a blood check for thyroidism but that was last year and im thinking that test should be done again. Who knows with a different result? Can this happen?
  11. OK, my fiancee has been to the doctor after complaining about fast heart rate, palpitations and chest pain. The doctor is a cardiologist and found her heart was fine and prescribed exercise and lots of fluid. Eventually the problem subsided but relapses will be expected and may only last a couple of days. She will always have this problem according to the doc. As for the chronic fatigue we have yet to determine the cause. Cardiologist referred her to an endocrynologist. Anyone have any input on what could be the source of chronic fatigue? Shes not obese, 31 years old, doesnt drink, smoke, fairly active, and slightly underweight. Doctors have not been able to diagnos this and we feel they give us the runaround. I just need nurses who will cut to the chase.
  12. No matter what your gender if you are made uncomfortable and intimidated then you should confront the issue. I hope its not a guy thing but that thought truly makes me uncomfortable since we should all be treated with respect.
  13. Whats funny to me about the doctor you were talking was that she brought up the idea that you the nurse was responsible for killing the patient. If I were the doc treating the pt then I wouldnt even joke about death instead I would feel the one most responsible not you or anyone else. Docs have a license which gives them a lot of responsibility but also much liability. I think some docs are so burdened that they take it out on the staff. I wouldnt last very long in that environment.
  14. But also note that being rude because thats just how you are isnt harassment. Some people are just abrasive. However, intimidation is considered harassment. There is a difference
  15. Heres a quote on what is considered harassment. Any unwelcome conduct -- verbal, physical or visual -- that has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment is harassment Yes even doctors must abide by fed. law. Document everything if you have a problem.
