UF BSN-DNP 2014
I applied part-time. Still no letter yet. I can definitely only do the part-time sequence since I do have a child and will be working three twelves as well. Plus, I don't want to take out any other loans so I will be paying my way through the program, with the help of hospital loan repayment, hopefully. I was discouraged yesterday but not today! I remember getting into the accelerated bsn program. Everyone had gotten their letters and before I even received a "no" I was already calling admissions asking about the appeal process lol Then, an adviser laughed and told me to just wait on the letter. I did. Got into that program. So, I'm anxious but, I know that I met all requirements and have a good shot. If not, next year, I'll reapply. No problem.

AMD88 Very interesting! They sent you the wrong letter for the track that you wanted :) Well, at least you got an acceptance letter. I hope that they allow you to get into the track that you wanted. Congratulations. That's great news for you.

UF BSN-DNP 2014
Wow! So, we're actually going to get our letters by almost mid-June :/ Ugghhh But, I guess next week the wait will be ovveeerrrr!!!!
-
UF BSN-DNP 2014
Well, since UF is my old choice, the wait isn't bothering me too much. But, I wonder if there are people who turned down other schools to wait for UF...But, anyways, I am hoping that the letters get to us next Monday. It sounds like they won't get them out until Thursday or Friday of this week. So, I'm hopeful for an acceptance letter in Saturday or Monday mail for everyone :)

UF BSN-DNP 2014
Well, since they said they would be SENT out at the end of month, latest, technically we should all have our answers by Monday or Tuesday latest. So, I wish you all luck! I hope that we all get in. I'm now curious about which tracks they are undecided on about how many spots there will be...I applied to PAC-NP. I would think that CNM, Family and Adult would have the highest demand...But, I could be terribly wrong. Anybody with additional info please let us know. Thanks!

UF BSN-DNP 2014
Not sure because they accept people on a rolling basis so the number changes daily. I know that the track that you applied to matters more than the amount of total applicants because certain specialties are in high demand such as: Family and Adult. Since UF is the only place that I would want to go ( I don't want to uproot) I have kind of accepted the waiting process. Question: Could somebody please let me know the estimated cost of attendance? I really need to know. Yes, I checked the bursar website but I don't know whether to calculate the credits as "grad 5555-9999 level" or just use the "PA" credit fee. This may sound crazy but....I actually want to attempt to pay my way through grad school without loans. BUT, I have applied to the part-time track.

Congrats VBRN10 :)

UF BSN-DNP 2014
I am so sorry samiam856 . You seem very disappointed. But, I do believe that this is a tactic for some universities...They seem to kind of make their acceptance letters go out a little later to weed out students who are on the fence or that might commit to other institutions. BUT, I do know that the staff is CON is super behind because of the loss of the grad school coordinator/adviser so I expected this to happen. UF is a huge university with tons of students. Maybe you could go talk to someone in the office to see if they can expedite your decision or possibly e-mail it instead of mailing...Good luck wherever you go! Sounds like you got into another program so CONGRATS! So happy for you!

UF BSN-DNP 2014
Same for me. I was told late May but will be out of the country for volunteer medical outreach from mid-May until mid-June. But, the wait will be worth it :) I applied to the Acute Care Peds NP track. I prefer to work in the hospital setting for now. I prefer the spaciousness and pace. I like being able to get a lot of walking in during the day because if I were in a more confined space, I'd get drowsy. I like to keep moving around and seeing new/rare diagnosis. I'm excited for each of you. I hope that we all get it. Good luck everyone

UF Accelerated BSN Fall 2012
Okkk...Sweettooth in the house! Ate three cups of fro-yogurt today because of the anxiety! :) I saw a rant on here about the inconvenience of the late letters taking so long to reach residences. I am not trying to offend anybody but, I must say that even though UF has taken a little longer than expected, a) this IS the first SUMMER start for this program...b) it would make sense that UF would take longer to mail out decisions being that we ARE at the BEST university (public) in the state and would probably have a ton of applicants c) I think it will work to the advantage of those who are outliers or waitlisted because those of you accept other schools with open up spots for those of us who are dying to get into UF d) the bit about April being busy for us who would have to complete immunizations, CPR training etc... We're adults. It's nursing school, right? A lot of those requirements are standard procedure for any nursing program. I totally understand those of you who had to make decisions prior to receiving the answer from UF. That's hard. But, you got into a nursing school, right?! That's great! Good luck! Now, other people have a chance to fill those spots. Ladies & gents, we should all be more careful about insulting the programs (esp. when the coordinator of the program can see it! eek!). Those who are waiting with me, let's *cross our fingers* and hope that we get good news tomorrow. If not, it's petition time, baby! I want in!

UF Accelerated BSN Fall 2012
Not in my mailbox yet! Sweating bullets! I'm really hoping to get in for me and my son! I love UF! But, I can see that this applicant pool was VERY STRONG! My GPA is 3.6 I got 148 Quant 154 Verbal and I had like a 3.2 or 3.3 pre-req average...My stats aren't that great but, I can write like no other! I love to write! So, I'm hoping that my essay convinced them of my determination and desire to get in! *crossing my fingers. I'm optimistic :) But, I wish you all the best! It should be in my box by 4:30 PM and it's 3:45 pm right now

UNF fall 2012/summer 2012
Someone please assist me! I just checked online to see my application status and it says "denied"! Did they already make decisions or is that what it says until they send out the letters??? I was kind of shocked because I just went on there to check my application summary and browse the site and then when I saw DENIED, it hit me like a ton of bricks...Jeezzz! I HOPE that that is not the final decision on the site If so, I'll just have to accept it and move on.

2012 UNF Accelerated BSN Hopefuls
I second that! I am trying to patiently wait but, I'm nervous about how I match up to the other candidates. I have only applied to three schools so, my chances of getting into one of them is still kind of low. But, I'm excited because, if admitted I would get to move to Jacksonville, which I would LOVE! I hope that I see all of you, if we get admitted & we can look back and crack up about all of the stress and doubts that we have right now. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

2012 UNF Accelerated BSN Hopefuls
Ladies and gents! PARTY PEOPLE! YAAAYYY! My name is ALLIE! This is my first post as an applicant to this program! Finally finished all of my applying! I applied to UNF, UCF and UF...After taking a look at all of your stats, I'm a little intimidated but, not totally discouraged. I'm a single mommy. Have a baby boy who's about to turn one and I'm about to finish undergrad. I'm 22 and a PoliSci major. I'm excited about possibly getting into this program. My stats are as follows: 3.64 overall GPA IDK my pre-req GPA but, I got like an A in Sociology and Chem, A- in Human Growth, B's in Anatomy and Micro and a C+ in Stats. I know! I JUST NEVER COULD GET STATS! Wasn't for me! My TEAS scores were: Reading: 81, Math:100 WOOT WOOT!, Science: 72.9 KILLER! and English was an 80. So it looks like the math balanced out the science and my average was something over a 320...

Single Parent Nursing Student
Hi, I'm really encouraged to read this. I'm a 22 year old single mommy of a 10 month old, currently. I will graduate undergrad next semester and will be applying to nursing school NEXT MONTH! AHH! But, I too am nervous about the rigor of nursing school. My son's daycare runs from 7 am until 6 pm, which is pretty decent and I get funding for that. I'm just worried about clinicals and classes. I guess it should be similar to the way college has been thus far in that I've always taken a heavy course load. I took 20 credits one semester just because I wanted to take an extra language course so, I think that since nursing semesters range from 12 to 16 credits, I should be OKAY. But, I'm sure that the classes will be intense! Maybe in between classes, I'll be disciplined enough to knock out most of the studying...The baby usually goes to sleep at 8 so that helps and by then he'll be weaned off of breastfeeding during the day- I HOPE! He'd be 1 yr 3 months when I'd start a nursing program. I guess the first step for me will be GETTING IN A SCHOOL! I'll be applying to 6 or 7 schools in Florida, all of which I really like. *crossing my fingers GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

New to forum and need some advice :)
Thanks so much Ruby Vee! Really appreciate you sharing your view on the matter. I'm very encouraged by your post. I guess the next step would be to focus on doing well on my GRE. I can't take back the grades that I've already gotten. I can only change the future. I'll have to do well on the GRE and hope that it outshines my average pre-req grades. And yeah, I know that SOMEONE's gotta be at the hospital on holidays so, I figured that I wouldn't have all of them off. The next milestone is getting into and through nursing school. If I can do tha, I'll probably be fine. I hope to be able to move to Georgia where I feel has nice south hospitality, nice schools and family environment and more importantly BETTER PAY! I looked at INDEED.COM...and a few other places and overall, Georgia pays more than suburbs in Florida. I'm from a small town called Plantation in South Florida and since it's near Miami, they get decent pay but, I REFUSE to move back down there. I'M MOVIN' ON UP and going forward with my life...OKAY ANOTHER QUESTION! What opportunities are there OUTSIDE of the hospital that have similar or better pay?

New to forum and need some advice :)
Thanks again for all of the help! I really appreciate it. Cuddles, I really understand a lot of your points and they're all valid. Because of your comments, I've decided to make a list of contacts and begin to call or e-mail the admissions and program coordinators of the programs so that they might be able to give me more insight into the time constraints and commitments that I'll have to encounter. This might be the most important step to deciding which path I'll go down. KellyRN, your comment also helped A BUNCH! You know, realistically, ANY job that I'll get is probably going to have it's disadvantages because as a mother, I have the HUGE commitment of making my son my top priority. I wasn't aware of the "weekend warrior" term but, am glad that you enlightened me about it. I didn't realize that it was yet another option. HONESTLY, best case scenario would be to find a PARTNER to share responsibilities with. But, I'm single and satisfied and if I have to pull all of the weight, I will. I really feel like an accelerated program in nursing is the best and fastest way to one of the most rewarding types of careers that a person can have. I have a lot of nursing friends who are either competing to get into the two year program or are continuing on after already graduating from with their BSN. I definitely have my work cut out for me. But, living on campus helps along with my son's daycare being walking distance from our residence. Hopefully, I'll gather enough info with the next month and be able to make the next move. I take the GRE early January and am NO WHERE close to being ready! I hope that tons of cramming over winter break and allowing my parents to babysit will get me somewhere...It's all or nothing at this point. But, I'm excited. OKAY! One more thing! Do new grad nurses always get stuck with the night hours??? And are the night hours considered the worst shift to have? (meaning do most people take up daytime shifts or do they prefer less traffic/patients at night?) Because THAT would definitely change the ballgame if I only found hospitals with night shifts open. Then, I'd have to have a night-time babysitter...MR. RIGHT NEEDS TO HURRY UP! lol Miracles happen, right?...

New to forum and need some advice :)
@ kizeemimi THANK YOU for replying as well! And I agree. I won't be working because I really value bonding time with my child. If I do school full-time, I focus on my schoolwork during business hours and then once I pick the baby up, it's his time to shine until I put him sleep between 7 and 8. Then, it's back to studying for me. But, I never try to multi-task with him. When he's awake, I'm all his. Okay, so what I forgot to ask above was...what do you two mean by inflexible? I'm looking for a job that allows me to work 40 hours or not much more than that. I'd like to work between 3 to 5 days a week. Other jobs do not offer this option. To clarify, when I say that I don't want to bring my work home I mean something like...Ok, as a lawyer, you may have business hours but, when you go home, you bring your "work with you". You can stay up all night and continue to work on the case. As a nurse, from what I can see, you cannot do that. From what I'VE SEEN, you do your write-ups, do the shift switch-over with the incoming nurse and go home. Am I incorrect? Do you have things that you do from home? The reason that I really value this is because my parents, God bless them, used to work really hard and get home late and STILL be working. I did not like this. They had well-paying jobs and I never wanted for anything but, there was no boundaries placed that would separate work from home life. I know that I'll be thinking about patients all day and that I won't be able to completely "shut out" the happenings of the day but, I would like to be able to stay busy and then go home to my child and relax. I actually WANT a job that keeps me on my feet because I'm high energy and I need to expend it in order to sleep well. I have always been an athletic build. I also hate office jobs where you just sit down in a cubicle and watch your life waste away. I want a job that allows me to use my languages (I know a several) and meet new people all the time. That's what my passion is. I love to travel and interact. What do you think about this?
